    Shaun was on 65K a week with QPR at a time in his career when he was well past his best. A player under contract is only obliged to do one thing. Look after himself, train well and make himself available. He isn't obliged to move, go out on loan or take a pay cut. Why should he?

    • @jammydodger1982

      That was Harry redknapp , he had Benjani at Portsmouth as soon as a offer came in he was driving him straight to the airport to Manchester, and he didn't want to go, begging Harry to stay.

      @@jammydodger1982 @jammydodger1982 'as soon as a transfer came in'. He paid 4.1 million for benjani from Auxerre, scored 1 goal in the Premier league (I'm fairly certain a grandmother would put as much away with chances created in a 38 game season) and was offered 9 million by Man City (before transfers went silly), how could you blame Harry for that? you would want to be simple for turning down more than double what you paid for a striker that scored once for you in the domestic league

    • @SRPC21
      @SRPC21 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Actually a lot of players were all queuing up to play for QPR (who were battling relegation at the time) because of the money being offered. It was disgraceful really, and showed that’s all they cared about.
      This includes Odemwingie who turned up at the ground hoping to force through a deal from West Brom on deadline day (who were mid table at the time). The QPR captain gave a great interview at the end of the relegation season; He said that they sold all the players who got QPR promoted in the first place that had a lot of character and passion for the football club (replaced by money grabbing assholes who didn’t give a shit, like Bosingwa who was laughing on the pitch straight after they got relegated).

    All Harry Redknapp did was answer a question he was asked as honestly as he possibly could.
    There's no crime or wrong doing in anything he gave away but the only thing I would say is I can only imagine certain people inside of Queen's Park Rangers must of winced at just how frank and direct his response was to that reporter. Because like it or not laying things out on the table as bare bones he did isn't going to be to everyone's liking at the end of the day is it?
    Also without knowing the ins and outs of QPR's ownership history I think that the club MIGHT of changed hands in regards to who was the freeholder when Shaun Wright-Phillips was offered the contract/money he was on. So by the time the club were in the Championship whoever had sanctioned the contract SWP was given they were no longer steering the ship so to speak and maybe Harry was only pointing out the obvious or just the facts of the predicament the club was in financially at the time the interview was given.
    Like what I'm trying to say is everything I've said in the above two paragraphs is purely conjecture on my part. It's not based on any insider knowledge or anything I was privy to or can back up/prove with anything factual myself. But more playing Devils advocate in making a possible argument for why Harry might of said what he said.

    Met this man back in 2016 in Stratford. Super down to earth, friendly and had such a positive vibe. Caribbean man saying I hope he gets the England call to manage.

      City haven't forgotten where we have come from....every other bitter fan reminds us. But I can remember many many years of having Manchester utd fans..laughing at us struggling even of get promoted from league 3.. With 30 000 fans attending home games against Lincoln city and reading and Wycombe wanders..who are all great clubs...I was as shocked as any city fan when Arabs bought the club..but we weren't the first by a long way...you'll find most city fans are humble enough to remember the bad days...but who'd begrudge a club like city success... A few million UTC and Liverpool fans maybe..but who cares its all just football.CTID

    Here is a prime example of a player Gobbling up Money without playing, although Joe and Joanna Bloggs struggle to get by and still and try to budget to go and see thier club!. This was one of the reasons why I stopped supporting a Top League club in 1990.

      @akhmetzadakargazhanov2113 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pete11377 no one else will pay him the same amount of money, QPR for sure doesn’t want to pay him so he will play in the other club. Player himself might not want to risk

    • @pete456113
      @pete456113 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zada Kargazhanov but in a loan the same wages are payed as before, by either club

    • @thelastwaltz730
      @thelastwaltz730 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Pete11377 I get what you’re saying but people seem to over simplify when it comes to footballers especially. Just put yourself in his shoes, he might not want to move to another town, he might be settled where he is, I don’t know about him but some players have kids in schools and they don’t want to take them out. It’s not all about playing at any cost, theres other things to consider. On top of that a lot of players simply are not “in love” with the game as us supporters expect, to some of them it’s a job and if they can get paid huge sums for not playing that’s fine by them.

      He didn't go out on loan because he would then have had to work for his money. He's a classic example of a player who was only in it for the cash.
