I started my Kenpo journey in 1966 and was trained by Ed Parker and Chuck Sullivan at the old Crenshaw Dojo. I was an original student of Dan Inostanto and Richard Bustillo at the Filipino Academy and learned Bruce Lee's JKD. After years of studying other systems I'm back to relearning the Kenpo forms. Thank you for your excellent instruction on the precise movements in the Kenpo forms.👍🏼
@grendelhvs I always good to see people making constructive comments... Depending on who you learned this from there are indeed no forward bows. These are short range attacks. Look at Short1 and then Long 1. Take this concept and apply it from Short 2 to Long 2. You'll go ahead and show shorter range attacks (no FBs) to longer range attacks ( w/ FBs). There are forward bows all over long 2, but not short 2. A mind is like a parachute, it doesn't function unless it's open.
Thank you, you helped me get *Practice master key set, kick set A and short form 2 for proper weapons* marked off when I had to show it to my instructor.
...keep an open mind to all things. We do Modern Arnis Jiujitsu at my school and incorporate that into our Kenpo as weapons training and defense against someone whom knows how to use knives and sticks...Also keep in mind injuries people might have; for example, I have very arthritic knees and they are always in pain so when doing forward bows I pop my heel off of the ground to relieve pressure from my knee. Also, due to dislocating & breaking a finger it looks like I am not making a fist all...
Oss master Juan Serrano! Me parece excelente tu explicación de esta forma, pero... puedes también dar la explicación es español? No todos entendemos el ingles hablado tan rápido!! Gracias!
Even Ed Parker evolved as a kenpoist. It is also an art, and each person does the art a little different, doesn't mean its wrong. If it works its not wrong. It doesn't matter who is right or wrong, but who is standing in the end. If it works good, if not, then why not change it so that it does?
@imbiased This form could do with being tightened up a bit, however it is just for beginners and Juan is not being to strict with his teaching method. Once you learn the form it is up to the student to sharpen up himself. As for Kenpotv.net, $45 per month for video tutelage, rip off. That is more than I pay for 12 real classes with a real instructor. Salute.
Guess it's just the echo on this particular video for some reason, I can understand the other ones ok. You have a good presentation, you must teach constantly.
I love all the Parker Kenpo police here. Considering you can't get a handful of seniors that trained under Parker to agree on how anything should be done, the peanut gallery here must have the final say. After all, that is not how it is done in the book. Makes me happy I am not in Parker Kenpo so I don't have to put up with all that crap.
If I can make one correction, there are actually 2 forward bows in Short 2. You use them during the half-fists. It may only be for a very short time, but that back foot is aiming forward. I'm not far enough to know much about Long 2, but what I've seen so far from everything I have learned so far is that any hand attack that comes from the back hand (say if you were in a right neutral bow it would be your left hand) you move into a forward bow, and any front hand attack you stay neutral.
Anyone who teaches Ed Parker's Kenpo Karate is in turn teaching their own style of Karate. Not many people are first generation Ed Parker Sr. students. If there is a more effective and efficient way something can be done, why should it not be done that way? If it does not break the rules and principles of the system why should the system not evolve? At the school in whitch I train new information is warmly welcomed and sometimes that information will change how something is taught. One has to...
