We keep the original drive preserved for a minimum of 10 days without modifications, so customers can make their backups and secure data. After, we can try to see what could be done, though most times we don't care to repair stuff like that. We just care to recover the data and use the drive for parts. But yes, probably a fresh format may get the Unlocker software to work correctly.
@@Datarecoveryguru1 Thanks. I tried to set it up as a boot drive for Windows 10, it started installing, found the disk and refused to continue. It is obviously a locked drive problem. If i booted from the disk directly , it asked for a password.
@@bennyandersen742 Installing Windows, which is a write operation, should not interfere with any software related password. The drive is probably defective, hence the Windows installation failing. Perhaps, get a SMART report for starters!
@@Datarecoveryguru1 Well, completely independent of windows the built in software on the hard drive prompts for a password at start up , when no windows installer is mounted anywhere.
Thanks for the suggestion and the sub. Will consider and try out shooting horizontally, though it is very inconvenient due to pain in my left wrist holding the phone in the way the camera is positioned. On the other end, I have headphones plugged in, because the lab is noisy. Cannot easily flip the phone the other way, as the cable is in the way. May I ask, when did you subscribe to this channel, please?
@@Datarecoveryguru1 I think one reason I find them so fascinating is because I try to wrap my head around how some people end up in this situation. I’m probably being too hard on others though but I have insane amounts of on and off site backups to my data due to paranoia.
Does it show the correct capacity in Device Management or Disk Utility? If not, then Do-It-Yourself solutions are very limited. if it shows the correct capacity, try to get a SMART report with something like CrystalDiskInfo or similar software.
Great workaround! Does the drive need to be replaced or formatted to completely resolve the issue? Or do you have to live with the workaround?

what if the hard drive has a password that you have forgotten? Can you still get into it?
It depends on model, what encryption, etc. Need more info.
@@Datarecoveryguru1 Western Digital My Book (P/n) WDBFJK0030HBK-04 - 3tb locked with WD Security. I think thats 256 bit..
More than likely we won't be able to help. This company, www thedigilab dot com, in Illinois, could.
You put in a password. Did that come with the software or was that a customers password. Because im trying to get into my drive.
You have to type in whatever password you configured for own drive.
@@Datarecoveryguru1 I didn't add a password so I should be good right ??

@@Datarecoveryguru1 I haven't gotten far enough. I still need to download the software for windows.
I did this and WD security will not recognize my dive, a 5000aav , 500gb drive.. Thanks anyway
The internal drive may actually fail with other issues. Need a professional diagnosis by a specialist to see what is what.
