I like this series because it shows in the hype how hundred dollars doesn't get you much but as the hype dies hundred dollars looking better and better
I also bought the entire base set when I started collecting! My only standard was that the card wasn't creased, so I've been able to collect the set for pretty cheap. Moderately Played I've learned is the sweet spot between damage and value, with, if the vendor is honest and good, no creasing, maybe some surface scratches and whitening but nothing that would take away from the card.
I like how this set makes collecting more approachable. I personally like looking at modern sets for collecting but it’s cool to see that you can base set for under $300.
Everytime I watch your videos and I see those Poncho boxes I want to cry. I wish I had a time machine and could go back in time and get back into collecting much sooner. I think those are the most adorable, amazing, fantastic cards for a collection. If I was super rich I would buy those boxes and cherish them for life!
Lol wow, I'm collecting base set unlimited right now, too! Starting out with commons and working my way up 😝 It's a nice balance each month to buy modern, where there is excitement for the gamble, and vintage, excitement for the nostalgia!
I love this challenge and I love that you're just collecting the set because even a played card is the original card! Just to have it at this age is awesome and they still look great
Awesome insight into getting into collecting vintage cards! I have been collecting for almost 2 years now but only have collected modern. I am going to have to start collecting some vintage cards using this knowledge.
This is incredible! My goal is to complete the original 151 in the first three sets on a similar budget. I've been biding my time for the market to come back down to earth, so it's great to hear it has!
I’m a fairly new collector as well and I started out with fossil instead of base set because I had so many from my childhood. Great series and keep up the quality videos Jake!
I just started collecting again this week. I haven’t for 15 years, so I know nothing currently in the scene. So, I’ve decided I want to get the base set as well because that’s what appeals to the kid in me. I can’t wait.
I'm trying to complete my base set collection as well for as inexpensive as possible! Thanks for the tips and thanks for the build and battle box tip! I might pick these up instead of etb's from now on!
I buy an ETB for 2 reasons. #1 To have a box to store the cards related to the set and #2 to get the booklet with the card checklist. But, I really need to stop doing that. Looking back, I bought 10 ETBs over the past year for various reason and I have never pulled anything better than 2 V cards from any of them (celebrations/shining fates excluded). That's 80 packs for $400 with a total of maybe 15 hits. Being generous, that is maybe $75 dollars in hits. I could have bought 3 booster boxes, some nice card storage boxes, and sourced the booklets. ughhh!
I have been following it since it's inception but never thought to collect what you are collecting Jake. You have made great profits with some being lucky pulls but others have been perfect card selection at the perfect time. And by perfect time i mean YOU knew when to snipe that card, cards or set before a price jump. Congratulations to you and thank you for all the great videos.
I like this series! Maybe for next month or future entries you could ask us what we think would be a good purchase! Might be a good way to get some community involvement!
I love the search. I try to search PSA 10 worthy cards of whatever set I'm currently collecting. It usually takes a long time cuz its part of the fun. I finished Japanese Base Set a long time ago and it's paid off in a big way luckily.
Greetings from Japan! I just recently got into Pokémon TCG, came from pogo. Been catching up on all your videos as a new collector/ investor. Would love to see the behind the scenes on how you bid and know which auctions to look out for as a person who doesn’t really trust eBay sellers. Any ways love your content!
You always have nice suggestions for collecting pokemon cards. I just followed one of your suggestions and got one japan post stamp box and I'm really happy with it. I also got it with buyee and it was a nice service experience 😀 Congrats on your content 👏
My son and I were given a bunch of base set, jungle and fossil set cards that are all in I would say NM condition by my wife's aunt and her husband. They were her husband's sons cards. My goal is to complete those three sets. My nephew's girlfriend has a bunch of cards from those sets also that I'm buying into. I'm really excited about these sets and the journey to complete them.
I think those BnB Stadiums are sleepers. Like Jake said, more packs and 2 promos that an ETB doesn't have. Plus they just started, so it'll be easy to have a complete collection of them. Imagine if you had a complete ETB collection...
Huh that makes me think I should go back and try to finish some of my older card sets a little along. Like if it's in the binder I don't really mind a less than mint condition as long as it's decent and not just completely chewed on.
Auction sniping is excellent if you have the time to keep an eye out, if the seller has one card that flies under the radar, chances are they have a couple others that will. Caught a Dark Charizard and Dark Raichu and felt bad for the price I paid 😄
My base set charizard was $243 and it was not perfect in the slightest, I'd say around the condition of the mewtwo card and it has stayed around threat price for a while so good luck!!
Surprisingly it's not that hard to get some pretty sweet cards for pretty cheap I recently picked up a Flareon Legendary Collection Holo for around $8 I only collect vintage wotc product and some of the top Chase cards from Modern sets I found that the real way to get the most bang for your buck is to buy small collections or Lots
Surprised that no Japanese cards added to collection yet unless I missed it, I know early, but would like to see what cards you would pick up on budget.
Vintage singles aren't too bad, vintage sealed is pretty insane though, in 2018 I started collecting one of each sealed unlimited booster packs, got some good deals back then, but to finish it would be so much, there's like over 10 different sets that are over 500 dollars for a single pack, it'd be a good 15-20 grand for a full collection, maybe someday though
I'm having trouble finishing off base set because of that damn charizard. Very difficult for me to pull the trigger when I know I could get literally hundreds of other cards for just that one card
I had to buy 3 fusion strike boxes before I found a full art Gengar. I was surprised how much it cost just after release. It ended up covering the cost of all three of the boxes haha
Unrelated. But Jake and whoever else please help, I'm reasonably new at collect but have a semi decent collection so far. I just got a seal box of Vmax Climax and I'm undecided on whether I should keep it sealed or open it. What should I do? Is would it be better to open/ not open?
I was with you until you bought the Fusion Strike Build and Battle. You just threw $40 down the toilet. I would NEVER recommend that to a new collector. Especially not Fusion Strike. The pulls are the worst in the Sword and Shield set. Great tip on the Base set Unlimited though. Didn't realize you could get them that cheap!
Just curious what your advice would be to someone looking to start collecting some of the more expensive sets like legendary collection or any of the Neo sets?
I am somewhat listening. I mean I can't exactly fallow your purchases due to the fact that time has passed as well as they aren't publicly available... I mean the cost of the Costco membership didn't seem to be factored in at all as a cost more the time it takes to track down the specific cards. Also I feel like you speaking as a " new card collector" is kind of like well as a new card collector wouldn't they want to be excited by what am older card collector is excited by too? Or try to build a collection that is both beneficial as you have stated in other videos. Also I'm curious as to why you would switch from the new Pokemon to getting the base set first ..? I mean there's so much in the Pokemon world are you literally recommending getting a little bit of everything slowly over time on a budget? Or focus move on focus move on?
I like this series because it shows in the hype how hundred dollars doesn't get you much but as the hype dies hundred dollars looking better and better

thanks for the tip. will try to upgrade my base set unlimited aswell
I tend to buy anything that looks ok on the front as its going in a binder anyway...So the back is ok for dmg or marks etc.
I like how this set makes collecting more approachable. I personally like looking at modern sets for collecting but it’s cool to see that you can base set for under $300.

I have a similar budget around 140 a month and its great youre also showcasing tips for budget collectors :)
This was literally me during the beginning of the pandemic, love the series!!!
I'm trying to complete my base set collection as well for as inexpensive as possible! Thanks for the tips and thanks for the build and battle box tip! I might pick these up instead of etb's from now on!

Really encouraging to see you can collect probably most vintage sets still for reasonable prices!
🔥This video was very humbling! That’s why you’re one of the greatest poketubers! Thanks for this video Jake!
my favourite series, really enjoy this one!
Nice idea for a video... didn't realise how cheap some base set cards could be. Looking forward to you completing the set!
I like this series! Maybe for next month or future entries you could ask us what we think would be a good purchase! Might be a good way to get some community involvement!

Awesome idea Jake! Definitely going to follow this series!!
Greetings from Japan!

Love the budget challenge series Jake!
You always have nice suggestions for collecting pokemon cards. I just followed one of your suggestions and got one japan post stamp box and I'm really happy with it. I also got it with buyee and it was a nice service experience 😀
Congrats on your content 👏
I’d also recommend looking for vintage steals on Whatnot. I sell on the app and it’s livestream auctions so you can get deals if you are patient.
Started collecting this year. Found myself a complete xy evolutions binder for $80. Missing a few reverse holos and no prerelease cards tho
Nice progress Jake!
Great idea trying to collect base set for $200. They will look fantastic in a binder.
My son and I were given a bunch of base set, jungle and fossil set cards that are all in I would say NM condition by my wife's aunt and her husband. They were her husband's sons cards. Finished my NM/M legendary treasures set for around $300 (including gold cards) this week. Making me want to do base set next.
Loving this series
Huh that makes me think I should go back and try to finish some of my older card sets a little along. Like if it's in the binder I don't really mind a less than mint condition as long as it's decent and not just completely chewed on.
Everytime Jake said Nidoking I thought of Maxmoefoe 😂
Nothing like worse condition cards for a better price! Always good to complete collection goals
love this series!
Ah those vintage cards are nostalgic beauties
You can still get the evolving skies build and battle stadiums for 50$. And being the first of its kind, i still think its cool and a good buy.
Auction sniping is excellent if you have the time to keep an eye out, if the seller has one card that flies under the radar, chances are they have a couple others that will.
Caught a Dark Charizard and Dark Raichu and felt bad for the price I paid 😄
Parents are literally moving right now and I refuse to get on the vintage card market until I root through all their boxes for my old cards 😅
Oh this seems like a fun series!
My favorite videos!!! Yay I LOVE these. Please keep it up
My base set charizard was $243 and it was not perfect in the slightest, I'd say around the condition of the mewtwo card and it has stayed around threat price for a while so good luck!!

Love this series.
Not buying mint is for sure the way if you don't plan on grading or selling
Surprised that no Japanese cards added to collection yet unless I missed it, I know early, but would like to see what cards you would pick up on budget.
This is great for the community bro 😁👊
Probably one day I’ll try to complete the base set 😲😄🔥🤘🔥
I don’t mind what condition my cards are as I’m not going to resell them soon anytime soon. Just happy to have them
Vintage singles aren't too bad, vintage sealed is pretty insane though, in 2018 I started collecting one of each sealed unlimited booster packs, got some good deals back then, but to finish it would be so much, there's like over 10 different sets that are over 500 dollars for a single pack, it'd be a good 15-20 grand for a full collection, maybe someday though
Bruh those prices are wild. You guys in the US are so incredibly lucky. Half destroyed vintage holos are priced like they're a PSA10 in the UK.
Why is it so expensive over there? Can't you guys just buy from ebay then?
Everything on ebay in the UK is heavily played and damaged up for hundreds that nobody will ever buy. So annoying.
Honestly if you're putting stuff straight in the binder the condition does not matter to an extent
I love this series
Love this series
I’m collecting 1st edition Rocket Set but been spending way too much. Gonna take it easy for a bit
VMAX CLÍMAX is selling for $70 on Amazon! It would be cool to see an opening for the next $100 challenge
I'm having trouble finishing off base set because of that damn charizard. Very difficult for me to pull the trigger when I know I could get literally hundreds of other cards for just that one card
Good luck finding such prices in Europe.
Lol you're crazy, a base set Charizard was insane when I was hunting. I couldn't find a Charizard :(
I agree I was able to find evolving skies one for $37.50
I am following with you by having a $100 budget and build a collection… so far I’m doing pretty well
I had to buy 3 fusion strike boxes before I found a full art Gengar. I was surprised how much it cost just after release. It ended up covering the cost of all three of the boxes haha
No card in that set is over 100$ rn lol
About time for this video lol
I picked up a jungle vaporeon holo and nidoqueen holo NM for a dollar a piece on Sunday at a collectacon
hey jake! I feel you should give metazoo a quick check! I got a feeling it's one of the the new titans coming out
I do want to get a copy of the 1999 Pokemon bases set, then buy some graded Pokemon cards.
Kind of shocked I didn't see any 99 cent Cards won at auction
I won a Japanese kogas Beedrill nm for 99 cents plus 399 shipping a while back
I've been picking up fusion strike ETBs for $27 within the last week. Crazy cheap
Where?
I'm debating posting my collection on ebay or at a local shop.
Is this the case today?
🔥🔥🔥🔥
nice cards
Unrelated. But Jake and whoever else please help, I'm reasonably new at collect but have a semi decent collection so far. I just got a seal box of Vmax Climax and I'm undecided on whether I should keep it sealed or open it. What should I do? Is would it be better to open/ not open?
i just bought every non holo in base set unlimited for like 98 dollars including shipping and tax
Hey Jake, just wondering. Do you sleeve your cards before putting them in the binder? Love your content!
Fusion strike is rough
Sweet cards but it's so sad how new or 20 year cards warp......
Where do you mainly snipe cards, eBay, TCG Player or is there another source you use?
I was with you until you bought the Fusion Strike Build and Battle. You just threw $40 down the toilet. I would NEVER recommend that to a new collector. Especially not Fusion Strike. The pulls are the worst in the Sword and Shield set. Great tip on the Base set Unlimited though. Didn't realize you could get them that cheap!
Jake what’s your advice on someone who needs UPC promos still? Please
These cards are nice! How wer u able to get them for such a low price?
Just curious what your advice would be to someone looking to start collecting some of the more expensive sets like legendary collection or any of the Neo sets?
I'm looking on tcg player and the lowest I see is $150-200 usd for Charizard
Are the older pokemon cards are from the 90s??
What camera do u have?
$36 dollars worth of packs $5 worth of pulls, fusion strike is equal to battle styles
Where do you buy?
cool
Scratches on mewtwo
NO MORE DRAG TO RICHIES??
Copy and pasting tcg gradings budget challenge concept
What do you mean by Copy? Is it not original? Confused
These aren't first edition ha

It would help if there was like a place I could say okay I bought x y z and got these cards or whatever
Why don't u just put 4 to the front
I have to be honest I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw the state of that mewtwo card 🤢
I bought ten single booster packs of fusion strike.
I don't know how the fuck I got the full art "special" Gengar card
Buying and selling to fund the $100 hobby? Sell everything fusion strike. Such a rough set really really bad pull rates
First. Notice me senpai
🤣🤣
First commenter!
Nope
Crazy how you have all those expensive boxes in the back ground but you dont have mint base set cards
