When I had my model 3, I bought the Ohmu battery. Months after installation, Tesla sent an update that detected Ohmu battery with my 12V systems not working. Luckily, Tesla installed a new lead acid for free and I'm stuck with the Ohmu battery. What if Rivian does the same thing? I'm just going to wait until my warranty runs out or hopefully if Rivian does nothing to detect a LiFePo battery after a few years, then I'll do this replacement.
So far this hasn't been an issue. The way Tesla does things and Rivian does things have been substantially different. Rivian is so far behind on service it would create more issues for them if they started "playing" with their 12V diagnostic systems. Anything is possible though. Ohmmu has also taken a lot of strides in this department including the ability to update 12V battery BMS settings and firmware remotely and do Bluetooth monitoring of the 12V batteries. We have gotten better and better results with the Tesla 3/Y lines as well.
Nothing nefarious, I am the guy who does these comments and I so rarely get on here to even look at them b/c we are usually moving forward with the next video or doing something else altogether. I really should get on here more and reply as we have tons of comments we haven't replied to.
Any chance for a follow-up to this video for the newer R1 update where there is only 1x 12v to replace on the driver side? (The passenger side is apparently now a capacitor, not a battery.)
Diddo Carpers comments. I watched the whole video hoping he would mention this. Does the high voltage battery charge the two 12v? If so, does it do it safely and effectively?
@@BarefootDave_ i am referring more to voltages. Agm and lead acid will take 14.8 volts while LiFePo4 should only take around 14.2v. I just hope the built in bms takes care of that detail.
Rivian charged me 1200$ for the these two batteries to be replaced 😢 truck got drained down past being able to wake up truck and destroyed the batteries or at least that’s what they told me.
I'm still l showing a 12v alert after the 2 battery's were replaced. I did the hard reset,
Me too any advice?
Would having 2 battery’s be better for camping and while charging car , less strain with 2 battery’s vs 1

I find it strange that the author of this video has not answered your question. Very good question by the way!

Yes, we have an install video for the newer builds (3/23 and later) that utilize a single 12V battery in the works - stay tuned!
Do noy put lithium battery for the 12v system. They dont work in cold weather
Why are the manufacturers sticking with lead acid? Cold weather performance?
Cost
I bought those batteries and they inflated after 4 months.
What climate are you in?

Yes, there is a DCDC converter to buck the voltage down from the HVB to 12v.
Does anyone know what the VIN cutoff was for the R1S for dual to single batteries? I am at ~3600
Dont lithium batteries have a very different charge profile.? Will the rivian 12v charger shorten the life of these batteries?
Lithium Ion does, which is why EVs should only be charged to 80%. LiFePO can be charged to 100% without issue.

why did you replace this battery other then the weight. also what does the 12v do on this truck?
Higher capacity too. 12v powers all of the loads in the car besides high voltage compressors and pumps. The majority of loads on the vehicle are 12v.

Of all the things that didn’t happen, this didn’t happen the most.
