Hello, Upon reviewing the aforementioned video, I found the showcased computer vision use case particularly compelling and valuable within the field. The automated detection of various areas, even in polygonal formats, appears remarkably accurate and promising.
During the video presentation, you referenced the use of Console sites for gathering floorplan data. I am keen on obtaining similar floorplan data and would greatly appreciate guidance on where and how to access such resources.
Could you kindly provide information or direct me to the appropriate sources where I can acquire this type of floorplan data?
Thank you in advance for any information you can provide on this matter.

Does this work for exterior of buildings like brick and stone?

When software developers say "in the next 2 or 3 years, they really mean 20 or 30 years. Optimism in Tech Dev is to be expected from someone in Tech Dev, but optimism doesn't achieve anything. We were told about advancements "coming in the very near future" over 10 years ago, that still haven't happened. We were shown videos of automated processes that looked very pretty, but still had a few bugs to iron out. Trouble is that developers had that one file that they had months to work on, and still couldn't get to work correctly, and as soon as you'd run the same process on a different file, it would fall at the first hurdle. Construction estimating is a very tough beast to tame, and to automate the process requires everyone upstream being consistently perfect. In my experience, since the implementation of CAD, drawings may be faster to produce, but boy, they are so much worse than the old drawing board days. Every single error the dafty's make on a drawing is going to be an error in your price, every incorrect dimension, every incorrect hatch pattern, every incorrect symbol, not to mention all the engineering requirements that aren't shown at tender time because nobody wants to pay for engineering design on a project that may not actually happen. Essentially, you're putting a huge part of your estimating processes in the hands of someone who can't even draw the bloody thing correctly. I still haven't even seen an "Accurate" As-Built BIM model, on a completed project. There's been a MASSIVE engineering and drafting skill loss over the last 20-30 years, and getting AI to identify the errors is going to be an equally massive challenge. If an estimator still has to go through and check every measurement anyway, they might as well take-off the whole job. As a bloke who's been estimating for over 20 years, I'd love to see AI estimating, I know theoretically it should be achievable, but the real measure isn't going to be if a software package is available in 10 years, but are the company's that buy it still around 5 years later. Good luck with it.

Thank you for your perspective and the experience you've shared. Yes, the information technology industry indeed has its complexities and challenges, and optimism can sometimes seem excessive. However, despite the difficulties, technology continues to advance over time. We see ongoing progress and developments, and perhaps in the future, some of the issues you've mentioned can be addressed. It's important to remember that technologies and tools are constantly improving, and they may have a positive impact on the construction cost estimation industry. We remain optimistic and hope for the best in the future. It's always interesting to hear the opinions and experiences of people working in this field.
