- In the century XI- XII century of Christian reconquest the castle is built on a former Roman castrum, and it remains only the ground floor of the tower and the shape of the Alcaçova.
In 1128 this castle is the scene of the revolt of D. Afonso Henriques against D. Teresa, his mother.
In the century 14 is rebuilt to the walled enclosure from which only the layout will remain. In the second half of the 15 the castle undergoes a great renovation and enlargement. It is at this point that the first palace of the warden is built. It is the adaptation of the castle to the war with guns.
With the decline of military importance in the 19th century, XVII is rebuilt the palace of the Counts of the Fair.
The Tower has two floors and a large roof on the roof. Large fireplaces reveal the castle's residential character.
The Well Tower built in the 19th century. XV with 136 steps protects a spring of water that is 33m deep.
Tenalha, a fortification to protect the keep from attacks from the source is accessed by a covered passage protected by gates. Its shape supposes the use of firearms.
The Casamata Tower on the west side, with its bombshells and bullshit allows for the low shot, and protection of attacks by the more disperse western part of the castle envelope.
