good video bro. Sometimes you gotta learn through experience. next time you change those ball joints. all you need to do is loosen up the the 17mm nuts and the 1 bolt holding the ball joint to the lower control arm.Just loosen it to have a little wiggle room. Remove the cotter pin for the ball joint and use a 19mm to remove/loosen the nut. I used a inner tie rod fork(rented from oreilleys) and tapped it between the axle and the ball joint to squeeze it out. and it worked! then remove the remaining bolt/nuts and the ball joint and put it back together. No need to remove none of the stuff you did. But i do like your video. Because you show a lot of steps and removed a lot of parts that people who are rebuilding their front ends may find very helpful! good video!
Why are you taking everything apart to change a lower ball joint? it's completely unnecessary for anyone to do so for 95-2000 corollas. Yes it makes it easier but you don't really need to do this entire process. Just my knowledge, I've installed both fronts and haven't any issues with them and got the old ones off and on pretty easily
hi, you don't need to take all that apart. you jack it up , take the wheel off, undue the ball joint nut from the spindle , take a ball peen hammer and hit the ball joint nuckle hard and it will poop apart or use a ball joint spreader. then undue the three bolts and pry it apart. shold take one hour to remove and install.
+shawn b the whole piece was pretty stiff for us to take just the ball joint out, so that's why we ended up removing the brake parts out of the way. We've done the way you said but it didn't work out for us so we ended up removing the brake component. It took us around 20-30 minutes to remove and install it so it wasn't that bad.
I agree. I've changed out mine a few times, and the only special tool needed is my HF ball joint tool along with a small pry bar to pull down the lower control arm for a little working space. Complete it in 15 minutes.
hi there, I have a 2005 Corolla is it the same way as removing the ball and i have to change the lower control arm too, is that easy to remove? please post up a video and help me on removing lower control arm on out 05 Corolla XRS
Awesome video. I need to replace the lower ball joints on my 2000 Toyota Celica. The steps are the same as the Corolla. My question is, DO I HAVE TO remove the axle, steering knuckle and eveyrhting you did on this video? Or can I get away without having to do all this? I see that it's only one bolt and two nuts holding the ball joint to the lower control arm. I don't have an impact wrench, just hand tools, and will be working outside on the street (no garage). Is there a specific reason why the axle needs to be removed? Thanks
I'm having trouble with one of the securing nyloc nuts that secure it to the lower control arm the nut won't tighten or loosen its just spinning how do I overcome this please? The stud is stable it seems the nyloc is spinning in the thread.
Can you explain the need to remove the entire knuckle for a ball joint replacement??? BTW a ball peen hammer smack to the knuckle will separate the tie rod end from the knuckle..
Awesome video and channel, what is the torque spec. for the 17mm ball joint bracket on the bottom and the spec. for the castle nut on top. Many Thank. keep up the good work.
Quick question....what keeps the axle stable when you remove only the tie rod end? If it moves to the left like someone is turning the steering wheel to the left, does the CV joint need replacing?
Hey i got a corona 1989 ex saloon. makes a knocking noise. and crunches in 4th gear. it didnt have this problem even when the 4th gear knocks. could it be the same with the bearings.
Would you know if the axle nut is same size for a 2000 Toyota Celica? Need to buy the socket for it. Replacing the ball joints this weekend and want to be ready. Also, I don't have an impact gun. What's the best way to loosen it? Thanks
Jose Medina its the same size, as for not having an impact gun, we recommend you having a long breaker bar for leverage. Then use a 1/2 torque wrench to torque down the axle nut.
hello, i have a question, if anybody can answer it please i will thank you...as i saw on the video the guys moved the ball joint, and the ball joint moved,..is not suppose not to move at all? i mean is that ball joint suppose to move like that even if they are brand new?? thanks
Correct: The old worn out ball joint had a LOT of play... you probably wouldn't be able to get any movement from the stiff new ball joint, with just your hands.
I replaced the front struts recently on my 98 corolla but it still basically sounds the same when I go over a bump as it did when they were bad. Anyone know what other part I should be looking to replace?
I think the strut mount on the top of the strut that you had to loosen 3 nuts I think, well that strut mount has bearings I believe, maybe its that. I'm not sure though but take a look at it.
I screwed up. I went to Auto Zone and got a 30mm 6 point deep socket not knowing that I needed a 12 point one. Anyway, regardless I wasn't going to be able to do the job after all as Rock Auto shipped me the incorrect part for my Celica. I will go to the Toyota dealership around my way and buy the OEM parts. They lasted 15 years, so even though I'll be paying premium price, at least I know I'll be getting my moneys worth.
Dude, you haven't the first clue what the he'll you're doing....both balls joints can be changed in less time than your entire video...and you don't need to take it out to check it...just stop before you break something.
this is about the least informative videoe on this subject that i have watched thus far. Thank you for your time and effort but with the way you give tuturioal you would have to be somewhat of a mechanic to understand what you are doing, but thanks anyways...

ragequitindustries I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad to see how he did it but seems like way more work.
Hahaha. He makes harder and than makes stopby carshop
I some times don't even take the wheel off... he must be following all data or Mitchel xD lol

this is an example of an axle service. only 4 bolts need to be removed once the wheel is off.
a removal fork could have separated the ball from the spindle.
I guess we didn't have that tool... or it didn't fit lol
I agree. I've changed out mine a few times, and the only special tool needed is my HF ball joint tool along with a small pry bar to pull down the lower control arm for a little working space. Complete it in 15 minutes.
You are right, doing the job right is more important than time
pedro perez thx
recommend wheel alignment as well after removing/replacing steering/suspension components like in video above
+Giesela Winter yup. Always.
Great overview, but was it necessary to take everything off like that?
hi there, I have a 2005 Corolla is it the same way as removing the ball and i have to change the lower control arm too, is that easy to remove? please post up a video and help me on removing lower control arm on out 05 Corolla XRS
Can u plz mention the symptoms of ball joints ? When should we replace
Gonna do this in a few days. Seeing it done helps. Thanks!
Aaron Adams np! glad we could help.
Awesome video, I need to do this exact thing to my first car, thanks for the help

Jose Medina You don't have to necessarily remove axle, just slide it out of the knuckle.
I'm having trouble with one of the securing nyloc nuts that secure it to the lower control arm the nut won't tighten or loosen its just spinning how do I overcome this please? The stud is stable it seems the nyloc is spinning in the thread.
thanks for vid - im doing this job this weekend - after balljoint replacement will the tracking need to be done?
Can you explain the need to remove the entire knuckle for a ball joint replacement??? BTW a ball peen hammer smack to the knuckle will separate the tie rod end from the knuckle..
how do you replace the spindle on a 93 Toyota Tercel rear
Awesome video and channel, what is the torque spec. for the 17mm ball joint bracket on the bottom and the spec. for the castle nut on top. Many Thank. keep up the good work.
MrSuperdog1997 thanks, all the info is in the description.
Great video
Quick question....what keeps the axle stable when you remove only the tie rod end? If it moves to the left like someone is turning the steering wheel to the left, does the CV joint need replacing?
+kurojin97 the CV axle is attached to the transmission housing and also attached to the wheel hub. The tie rod ends are attached to the hub bottom.
Hey i got a corona 1989 ex saloon. makes a knocking noise. and crunches in 4th gear. it didnt have this problem even when the 4th gear knocks. could it be the same with the bearings.
i have a question: do you know the torque specs for the lower control arm for 2002 corolla. Thank you
I think 101 Ft-lbs for the lower arm. 66 ft-lbs for the ball joint nuts/bolt
2006 Corolla....creaking...steering...is the ball joint attached to tie rod,is it all one piece?
Lisa6964 hi i don’t know if you fixed already but the ball joint is attached to the lower control arm , the tie rod control steering

Great Video right to the point. Thanks

Nice video, too sad you no longer make videos on old Toyota Corolla
yeah... we sold that corolla already.

+NutzAboutBolts What is it torqued to? do you know?
+Mark Yates-White its in the description box.
You just do it the hard way buddy but it works
hello, i have a question, if anybody can answer it please i will thank you...as i saw on the video the guys moved the ball joint, and the ball joint moved,..is not suppose not to move at all? i mean is that ball joint suppose to move like that even if they are brand new?? thanks

i mean with the lower ball joint?
Cool video thxs
Great! I would do all this work if I had to replace a wheel bearing
Thanks , very helpful. 🔧🔨

I think the strut mount on the top of the strut that you had to loosen 3 nuts I think, well that strut mount has bearings I believe, maybe its that. I'm not sure though but take a look at it.
Lower control arms could also make bad sounds after going over the slightest cracks or bumps on the road
Right on.
Great video! At least now I know I don’t have to remove the whole axle out lol

Jose Medina ouch yeah, rock auto sometimes has the right parts, but the last time I ordered from them, their parts didn't fit properly.
Very helpful. Thanks.
just use a ball joint splitter saves removing any of the brake components drive shaft steering knuckle and time
Awesome Video
+Helping Hand Pet Rescue of West Virginia thanks!
if you have power tools why don't you use them?
Mr. rogers is that u??
If I could get as good and change a ball joint in 12 minutes flat!
George Stevens well, doing the job right is more important than time. Just take your time and you'll get it done :)
You should have not left the pin part. A lots of people can not take off the pin.
+张然 which pin part? the cotter pins?
DUH ????
Dude, you haven't the first clue what the he'll you're doing....both balls joints can be changed in less time than your entire video...and you don't need to take it out to check it...just stop before you break something.
How about no? I like to break things.
