It's not that you don't have to report crypto gifts, it's that crypto gifts are not taxable under a certain amount. I THINK you were correct in saying $15k, but I'm not totally sure. The thing is, whoever you gift the crypto to IS required to pay any tax on gains they see while holding the crypto. So for instance, I buy X amount of bitcoin for $300, and over time it becomes worth $10k. I gift all $10k to a friend, I do not have to pay any taxes on the $9,700 gain I made, nor does the person receiving it. However, if the person receiving it sits on it for a while, and that bitcoin is now worth $15,000 when they go to convert it into USD (or any other token/coin for that matter), then they'd have to pay tax on the $5000 it gained in value since the time of the gift. If they cash out immediately while it's still worth only $10k, then they don't pay any taxes on it.

I have lived abroad for over 4 years now. I do have a small biz in US and l'm paying taxes on that. But didn't start crypto until I moved to Colombia. I'm hoping we are on the non tax country list for crypto?

It's not that you don't have to report crypto gifts, it's that crypto gifts are not taxable under a certain amount. I THINK you were correct in saying $15k, but I'm not totally sure. The thing is, whoever you gift the crypto to IS required to pay any tax on gains they see while holding the crypto. So for instance, I buy X amount of bitcoin for $300, and over time it becomes worth $10k. I gift all $10k to a friend, I do not have to pay any taxes on the $9,700 gain I made, nor does the person receiving it. However, if the person receiving it sits on it for a while, and that bitcoin is now worth $15,000 when they go to convert it into USD (or any other token/coin for that matter), then they'd have to pay tax on the $5000 it gained in value since the time of the gift. If they cash out immediately while it's still worth only $10k, then they don't pay any taxes on it.

If your controlling both buying and selling wallets and its the same nft then you would technically be doing tax evasion.
