Red Pick-up Truck vs Local Cycling Team (Chiang Dao - Wiang Haeng Hill Village Adventure)

- Adventure Time... GO! A test run actually, of one of my local trip ideas for whenever YOU come to hang out with us - I would like to take us for an overnight trip in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and this is one of the places I would love to visit!
Located just 150km from my front door, the town of Wiang Haeng provides a perfect destination for an overnight trip. Of course I want to do this on a bicycle, and we can do this exact trip in so many different ways based on strength/skill or just interest in exploring all the small stuff along the way!
Feeling like you are "off in an unknown land, completely enclosed in the glowing mists and endless green hills" is so wonderfully convenient here, just a single days' journey out of town - the local town is just large enough that it has all the basics covered (honestly, much more than 'the basics,' but Im just saying, you will have absolutely nothing lacking when it comes to comfort), but still not big enough that there is even a single human sound in the air when the lights are finally all out... well, except maybe YOUR roommate, but that's your decision :). Cross that bridge when you come to it!
Awesome crew today with my teammate Shane, my friends Hayden and Karl, and Alex (among other things, the coach of many local cyclists in Chiang Mai), such a great group for a day like this... you best believe we are already excited for the next one!

Hi Joel! Great tea to start a bike climb. Oolong keeps the body going for long hours. Beautiful sky with the clouds. Oh and that rain whipping in made me homesick for Florida. Haha cheers to Jackfruit, we did indeed get the gift of one of those big babies, Li took it home in the truck (and we have ALMOST finished it by now, 8 days later). Total weight maybe 8kg? I think it yielded about 3 maybe 3.5kg of pure fruit.
The joy you find cycling and exploring new foods is inspiring! I couldn’t do the cycling part, but if you ever offer food tours around Thailand, I would definitely sign up for that! I totally agree with you Joel ... magical is what it is - such an amazingly beautiful and peaceful area! It would be awesome to tour through the region with you but the only way I'd be able to do it would be riding comfortably in Khun Khan's big red truck 🤣 but I can just imagine waking up in those hills. @@JoelsTastyRide I think that would be a fantastic idea - taking a group through the hills/mountains. There would be many neat and interesting places to stop to eat; lots of quaint (quirky) establishments or fantastic scenic locations for picnics not to mention seaside/beach locations.
I’m not a cyclist but I’m sure there must be some serious riders there that you could connect with to get a feel for all that would be involved. The Blue Mountains definitely is a must (challenging in that it’s steep, winding, lush (jungle) vegetation, rainy/wet/slippery, and can get really cold...all on a good day 😅 but even more challenging I should think but totally worth the time and effort, would be through the Cockpits!!
Sign me up ... I’ll meet you and the rest of the gang down there ... only make sure there’s a little truck or van I can ride along in. LOL 🤣🤣🤣

Huge respect on that ride, my wife's village is a little further up that road on the Myanmar border. We've driven it many times. My wife calls it the snake road and gets dizzy whenever we visit her family. My favorite part of Thailand 🇨🇦🇹🇭.

Hi Joel - This was arguably one of the best adventurous Vlog posted by you ! Loved the passion , the scenic view ( drone shot) , the healthy food .. everything was picture perfect !! 150K in 4.5 hrs is amazing and that too with the last leg being a climb with a good gradient ! Rajeeeeeeesh respect that one today man, thank you!!! I didn't write the actual details because I don't want it to seem like I am boasting (clearly, I shouldnt! Alex absolutely DUSTED us when it came to the full climb as a whole). But yeah, not just a little climb, it was actually 2,600 metres of climbing total. So in 4.5 hrs, yeah thats a very, very hard pace. We wanted the challenge though, and coming again with guests, with YOU, with anyone, we will be taking it at a much more normal pace (one where you can actually stop, as Li did, stop to see things along the way).

Hi Joel, Li and friends 🙏❤️. What a good video and lots of fun. Had such a laugh when you drank that Oolong. Thought you were having a shot of whiskey 🤣 . The food looks absolutely delicious, very vegetable forward which I love! We eat squash greens in SA as well, not only Chayote leaves but also all other winter and summer squash greens (So delicious!) , We also eat pea greens, beetroot greens, turnip greens and many more in my house. No waste cooking is something I wish more people did. So many western countries throw out the best part of vegetables! I love using garlic and onion greens too. Absolutely delicious. Loved this video, loved the beautiful landscapes and how beautiful Thailand is. Doubt I could keep up with that cycling but how absolutely wonderful. Once our postal service is fully functional I would love to send you guys some South African products you can only find here (and on Amazon 🤣). Li should try those under ripe mulberries. They're edible and they're sour! Know she loves sour food like I do. Much love 🙏❤️

great message, thanks for joining our adventure, and yes of course that would be great to actually go on this trip together! The red truck (you saw inside it right?) has a lot of space inside, actually it was almost totally empty for this trip. Part of the reason for this right now at least, was to help out our friend with some business, so aside from Li riding in the truck we almost didnt even use the space at all... BUT the purpose was also to show what space there will be for otheres!

There is no siesta time here, I guess its funny, because China has it!! And Thailand, so close by, they don't do it...

About the e-bikes, it hasn't widely caught on yet here, but it is coming soon! A few friends have them, but yeah the price is still too high for anyone to have them for rent ... just not yet.
But, you aren't the first to ask me! So, even for me, someone who is not doing active tours at the moment, if people are asking ME about it, then its a very valid question. And answers will be coming soon :). yahoo!

Thanks for the message, yeah one of my absolute favorite things about living here, and the reason that Ive stayed here, is because I never had enough money to "do anything" when I lived in the US. I learned over the years though that your feet are free, and those CAN take you a long way, but it still wasnt as far as I wanted to go. So I came to Thailand, eventually bought a bike for 450$, and I have now ridden over 120,000km in this gorgeous country :).

We call those golden Mangoe's and I put tajin and chamoy onto all my stoned fruits plus watermelon is good with tajin sprinkled on it cucumbers and tajin are tasty tart sweet and spicy

Hi Tiffany!! Yes, we are all the same group that (I think it was you who asked this last month? :). hahaha oh my, should I be proud, or defensive... or :) ?). Yes, same group of friends, this is our "bubble" and its working well. A few Covid tests and all negative, so were happy that its working!
Thai style is usually family style, almost every dish is shared, and your rice is just your rice. Definitely my favorite way to eat!
