I love how mike played the drums to solitary shell wearing a kiss my ass shirt...little things like that shine a goofy reality onto the recording process...a singer recording these super emotional vocal parts in between the bouts of scream shitting from the bad chinese food that got delivered to the studio
Federico Ceri if I got my facts straight, MP tried to return but DT refused and kept mike mangini as to as they say “show that we do not hire temporary members”. I love MP and I want him back, but I understand DT, because MP decided to leave, then came mike mangini and there cannot be turning back cuz imagine them telling Mike Mangini “hey y’know we all wanted and needed you here with us cuz MP left and we needed a technically gifted drummer who can play the older DT songs and create new albums with us but now that MP wants to return, we want to tell ya goodbye. From one drummer to another holy shit mike portnoy to this day has always impressed me as a drummer and plus great studio video of making this album and live in the recording studio !!!! How awesome and amazing this is to see for yourself!!!😮
Mike - I really love everything that you have done and speak about. You are a true treasure to the music industry which has turned so goddam bad that it is scary. I will always support what you do - (unless you start wearing Michaelo Angelo wigs and Evil Kanevil jumpsuits). Thank you for how true you are and all you have done and said to a great many people that listen to you and respect your values and believes in life and this fucked-up industry which has become the music business of 2018 - future - you are one of the very true left, music talent level and attitude and very true level of honesty. yep it sure is the best progmetal :) i love some of their songs but not all of them... my favorite is A Change of Seasons... can you tell me for some similar songs?
Wow. I think 6DOIT is by far my most favorite drumming mike has ever done! just true and outstanding insanity mess, crafted into creativity, awesomeness, dexterity, and mind warping epicenes! I am bummed out about a few parts thought... Like how they didn't show that crazy awesome solo in the beginning of "the test that stumped them all" or it would have been super epic if he had ended the video with the ending drum fill and gong hit! And they could have shown like 10-20 seconds of Despair!
Its only took 26 minutes, give or take a few seconds, to figure that the drums weren't coming though the mix for this video, That 26 minutes I won't be watching. Mike is still a God tho.
Leopoldo Gonzalez yeah, I get your point but I'm actually fine with it. especially with Maiden who have great artwork going on (or at least had for many years).
lots of copy & paste. still great! even greater the fact that he had the possibility of a workplace where he could experiment so much and improvise as well with time and patience. you see lots of improv on these takes.
Its also cool seeing how different some of these parts are from the final recordings. How much he develops the parts as they track. And also how challenging some of it was that he was pushing himself on this album which really set up the next albums. You can see the heavy factor really start on this album.
0:00 - Glass Prison 6:06 - Blind Faith 13:30 - Misunderstood 16:00 - The Great Debate 26:22 - About to Crash 34:36 - The Test That Stumped Them All 36:33 - Solitary Shell 41:45 - About To Crash (Reprise)

Each of the albums selected songs that are part of the 12 step concept reflect on each other to tie the whole story together over many albums. Why he didn't played the Overture section of Six Degrees?

In some parts his drumming is different from the album takes, cool though
song from 40:52??
solitary shell
!!!

...better Mangini or Bozzio
Totally agreed
Yeah that bothered me a lot too.
Being able to play this music is one thing, bit writing it to begin with is what made the Portnoy era of DT truly incredible.
