    At last, a video showing the mysterious "button" I keep seeing everyone talking about. Thanks!

    I've done that a bunch of times on the truck if your careful you won't lose parts.
    I took out a #30. And put In a #7 plus I stretched out the governor spring.
    When I finished blow smoke every gear change, no load engine RPM 2450.
    Fuel mileage went from 5.8 to 6.25 running at 62-65 MPH when coming to a hill ease fuel pedal to floor many times topped hills I would had to down shift once, never had to after the easy tune up .
    Better throttle response and fuel mileage great combination
    Oh, at 62-65 MPH RPM was around 1700 RPM

      Did you mean 7 or 27 because I want to order that same button you did I have down shift as I go up a hill and would like to roll coal

      Also what does it mean the higher the number what does it do as opposed to the lower number like a double 0

      Blowing black smoke means ya over fuelling the motor, how could you get better fuel milage🤷🏻‍♂️. You have have upped ya fuel pressure considerably changing from a #30 to a #7(didnt know they made a #7🤷🏻‍♂️) Shouldnt change by more than 5 at a time. 30-25, 25-20, 20-15 etc. I hope hour camshaft can handle the extra pressure. And id watch that pyrometer like a hawk. Melted pistons dont do motors much good.

    I have never taken a pump off to change a button, in your video you turned the pump horizontal (like it would be in the truck) to pull the button out anyway. Literally a 10 minute job on the truck. Thanks for the video's

      Absolutely correct. Just a lot easier to make a video on the bench.

    greetings, just came across this video and all though this is an old video. I wanted to pass something along. the "button " is actually" for how much fuel gets by-passed back to the tank.and limits how much fuel the pump receives. andyes the #stamped on the button relates to the size of the hole. the actual name is called " the fuel by-pass disc" enjoyed the video.

    Ive been in the military 22 years done a ton of years the 30 button is the smallest a zero is the biggest you cant find zeros a five is easily buyable if you know a good machinist they can make a double aught but these military nhc-250 engines have all three the smallest three power building components upgrading the button will help but the engine is still castrated 855 engines make power in three areas. 1 the fuel pump orifice they vary from 1/4 up to 1 1/4. 2 the button and three the nozzle of the injectors

I have dies for 87 different cartridges currently, probably adding another with a 7.5x55. One of only a couple of milsurps I dont have but I'm bidding on both a 96/11 and a k31.

    If I just want to adjust the idle.. does the fuel stop after taking off that plug? And how do I bleed the system?

    • @speedandmarine9066
      @speedandmarine9066 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There will still be fuel in the lines, heads and injectors. Fire it up and hold the RPM up a little and normally it'll pull enough fuel to self bleed pretty quick. If you have a questionable fuel system you'll have to crank on it a little while. You don't need to pull the entire governor cover to adjust idle, just the plug at the back. Cummins has a special tool to adjust the idle while the engine is running to avoid the adjust/start/bleed/readjust game.

    • @jameshickey9393
      @jameshickey9393 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@speedandmarine9066 I think 3/4 turn right increases idle 100rpm, turn left decreases idle 100rpm. Slightly back off after turning 3/4 turn.

    • @speedandmarine9066
      @speedandmarine9066 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jameshickey9393 How much the idle screw affects idle RPM depends on a lot of factors. No need to back off after adjusting if you use the correct method. If you don't have the special tool and are pulling the plug to adjust with a normal screw driver you need to run the engine long enough to purge the pump housing and stabilize the idle on a hot engine to see if you need further adjustment

    I would live to know what number you used, where you got it and your opinion about power, MPG and EGTs. Thinking of doing it myself but MPG is more important than HP for me. (edit just saw where you say #20)

      +NelsonStudios
      I plan to change that to a 12. Currently I buy them on eBay but not that I have my own parts website I'm hoping to make them available as well. My EGT's hover around 900 when cruising on the freeway at 60 to 65. If I encounter a substantial hill and I'm pulling my M989 HEMAT trailer I will hit 1250 and then start to back out of it. I'm not sure about actual horse power gains as this is such a heavy vehicle to begin with. Pittsburgh Power claims the dual fuel line modification alone increases 25 horse. I do believe this is a needed mod with the dual fuel line for the extra volume needed to maintain stock pressures. Some one much smarter than me could explain the hydraulics law of pressure vs volume.
      On a side note I do believe that you and I need to exchange some contact info as we both seem to gain a lot from each others videos. Plus I think we can help each other out on some of the projects if we were to collaborate. please feel free to email me anytime, or anyone who has questions can. Ken@MVPartStore.com. • @MVPartStore

      Run a pyro for sure. You will be adding a lot more fuel which creates heat, the heat is what could burn a piston.
