I’ve been looking at this one for a minute now. Like I already have a set of PDP wood hoops and a trick throw off I’d probably put on it. And I’d probably put a Evans hydraulic in red (to match my kit) and a Puresound wire on it just to I guess fully upgrade it. But I absolutely love the idea of taking a cheaper snare and making awesome and one of a kind. Basically all my snares are fully custom builds, just using an inexpensive shell for a foundation. But honestly what I need is a metal snare and this size is kinda exactly what I’m looking for to go with my other two snares. I think after the holiday season I might grab one of these. I mean for $100 bucks, it’s gotta be worth it. It sounds awesome, and just the hoops tube lugs and shell are worth $100….🤷🏼♂️
Check Thomann for the Millenium 14"x5,5" Power Brass Snare is under 200 ,and it's really brass, but they must ship it from Europe..This steel snare is maybe just as good anyway! I'd for sure settle for this steel snare with a little customized..
Love what you’re about and it sounds decent with music over it but…that ain’t it for me. Worldmax sells shells on Drum Factory Direct and you can get a brass shell for a decent price. That and the Ludwig Universal and Sonor Kompressor series both offer affordable brass snares. I have owned many but currently have a Yamaha RC brass snares and it kicks major arse can’t recommend enough and cheaper than many on the market.
I like 13" also. I have the 3"X13" Ludwig smooth bronze I don't use very much. I had a 6"X 12" Sable (black lacquer) Classic Maple, which I sold, and that wish I hadn't done that! 🥁
With good heads, the cheapness of the drum just becomes the character of the drum. Not tryna be corny, but that's the truth. I believe literally if you put good heads on any snare that's not out of round or otherwise physically damaged, it is pretty much good enough to record with and easily good enough to gig with.
Brother Count: 17

If I can't bend my sonor's hoops - it mean they are good or I am just weak?
Now this is a deal you CAN beat with a stick! Sorry, I had to. Steel shell snare drums are great all rounders. Thanks for this video!

Muting sounds good, but wide open sounds much better to me.
