- High tech computer crime and corporate espionage
on the Internet of 2010
You play an Uplink Agent who makes a living by performing jobs for major corporations. Your tasks involve hacking into rival computer systems, stealing research data, sabotaging other companies, laundering money, erasing evidence, or framing innocent people.
You use the money you earn to upgrade your computer systems, and to buy new software and tools. As your experience level increases you find more dangerous and profitable missions become available. You can speculate on a fully working stock market (and even influence its outcome). You can modify peoples academic or criminal records. You can divert money from bank transfers into your own accounts. You can even take part in the construction of the most deadly computer virus ever designed.
In my head canon, Uplink is actually set in the Deus Ex universe.
Tell me this doesn't make sense.
Still one of my favorite games growing up.
I like how people are saying that the community is dead. But some people are still playing it!
this game needs an official sequel or expansion badly
This game was inspiration for other names I've heard, so you as might as say those games are "sequels".
It was inspiration for a lot of other games, the most notable probably being Hacknet, but there's still not much that has the depth and complexity of uplink
well, the mod "onlink" is pretty good. its just a version of uplink, but with much more content. it is also much harder aswell.
Side of Fries try the mod „Uplink os“ while not officially the devs reviewed it
when u fail do u get arrested in real life?
Probably. When you get traced, and do not blow up gateway just in time, everything is seized and you will probably go to jail. It doesn't literally says that, but I think we might accept this as given. If you do blow up just in time, you're free, but you have to build up again. I know that you cannot also blow up gateway just like that, it must be the perfect moment.
so you can get arrested in real life for a game?
No.
why is there always someone asking if this is real, what part of this is at all realistic?
yes.
