    I have to tell you how much I appreciate your videos Ben...not only as initial education, but as persistent reference and inspiration. I purchased the Fold Processor last year after shopping around for a while and settling on it after this video. Several months along and I was considering replacing it since I hadn't found much use for it, but I came back to this video instead and am inspired all over again. Yes, at first you help me spend my money :-) but you also help me save money in the long run by reminding me to make more creative use of the modules I already own. I thank you for that!

    Love the sound of the folder. The audio rate on inject is super cool too. Might grab one to combine with my A-111-3, with its 2 FM imputs should make a pretty stellar complex osc

    This is my wavefolder. Despite the fact that it's kind of bulky, the tip top color scheme is a bit of an odd ball standout in my system, and there's integrated modules like the steady state gate, I simply haven't heard another wave folder that sounds this good. Got mine in a while ago and am 100% satisfied. Might even get the steady state gate still and just use this for wave folding

    • @goonfish
      @goonfish 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I'm currently having a serious waffling between this or Intellijels Bifold to use pre-Instruō Tanh[3] - but I feel like this has more utility built into its obviously-larger footprint, and the newer black panel version would fit nicely! 🤔

    To be honest, I had decided not to watch this one because a) my system is full and b) I purchased WF-1 from Dan at the Leeds Modular Meet.
    What a mistake that was... So glad I popped in to give this some time while scoffing my breakfast :-)
    What I get out of most of your module "run downs," Ben, is ideas of what to try with my own stuff, even if I don't have the actual module being looked at. This one is another keeper for me and I will return to this in the future as I try out some of the stuff covered here with WF-1. And then when I think it is time to expand my system again, and assuming this wavefolder is still in production, it will be high on my list...
    cheers

    My first module :-) Took the plunge last week & bought the Tip Top Happy Ending kit + the Tip Top Fold Processor to go with my Kirkpatrick Phenol. Nice. Was a very good feeling installing my first module into the Happy Ending kit. A small & modest start. But I'm having so much fun mangling stuff from the Phenol with the Fold Processor. I can see how people get hooked in to Eurorack. Looking to my next module. Like the look of the Tip Top Forbidden Planet filter. Also the Erica Synths Black series for more sound sources. Only issue is I feel I need more Banana to mini jack cables already! The Kilpatrick kit comes with 4 cables + a ground cable. The cables are fairly long as well. I'm on the hunt for some more banana to mini jack cables or a schematic for soldering my own possibly.

    • @DivKid

    Yes! New to Euro Rack. Looking to build a modest Euro Rack (Tip Top Audio Happy Ending Kit?) to expand my Kilpatrick Audio Phenol's capabilities. Will need the Kilpatrick Banana to jack cable kit of course. But had in mind the Tip Top Fold Processor for my first module. Looks very interesting. Thanks for the video. I'm sold now ;-)

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, welcome to the euro side of things. The Phenol looks and sounds great, I wasn't aware that Kilpatrick made a banana to jack cable pack, that's useful. Will that also ground the two systems properly like you get Serge modular systems and adapter cables from Patch Point or Bug Brand? I think a folder/shaper is great addition to a semi modular synth. So good first choice.

    • @Dogboy73
      @Dogboy73 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DivKidVideo Yes the kit includes a ground cable. But it’s a 1/4” jack to 3.5mm jack for use from the Phenol to an unused 3.5mm connector on a Eurorack system. Confusingly Andrew uses one of the 1/4” audio inputs on the Phenol in this video. But the Phenol has a dedicated grounding connector so I’m not sure why he does this. There are only 4 banana to jack cables in the kit. Should be enough for me. But if you have a decent sized system you’d probably want more I guess.
      th-cam.com/video/LnZEmDNMekQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @Dogboy73
      @Dogboy73 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW, the Phenol is full modular not semi-modular. No patching, no sound. That’s one of the things that attracted me to it. I liked that it was an all-in-one system that forced me to patch, therefore learning more about modular systems. Was tempted also by the semi-modular Moog Mother 32. But in the end the Phenol won out. I really like it. I’ve learnt a lot using it and it’s nice to get away from the screen again ...... but now it needs some company 😉 Another Reason I went for it was that Robbie Bronnimann mentioned he had one on Sonic Talk. He really rated it so that was a good endorsement for me. It’s not been reviewed by Nick Batt on Sonic Labs. Would like to see it get the Sonic Labs review.

    Amazing presentation! So many cool modular ideas you showed here. I wonder about the inject..is that a feedback loop? Really powerful...sounds real good also..and does so much cool stuff for CV. I'm using the Toppobrillo Tripple wavefolder. I find that using a VCA infront of the input helps me getting more tones from it. (need to test more with feedback to see if i get similar cool stuff as the inject). I quite like that it is 3 in 1 wavefolder that can be used separately. (I normally just use 2 stages coz it can get a little noisy with all 3 stages, but then i have 1 extra 1 stage folder for free!)That was a real nice tip with the 2 lowpass gates and separate gates to spice up a sequence!! Thanks, thumbs up!

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Magnus, thank you :)
      The inject isn't a feedback loop, think of it more as a symmetry control. But literally you can take it as a voltage offset injection. Off in the middle positive to the right, negative to the left. You can see it pulling the waveform up and down into the positive or negative clipping stages.
      Do do the same thing on the Triple folder you have I think you get a DC control I think? Bottom right knob. That should be similar.
      VCAs in front of filters/folders/shapers is a definitely good thing for more tones and dynamics. With this one when the fold is right down the signal is off anyway. As it's usually (always I think) a VCA at the front end of a folder that feeds the folder and ultimately determines how much folding.

    • @manne3d
      @manne3d 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ahh, i see. Will have to explore that more with the DC offset when i'm done with the patch i have patched up at them moment. yeah that is always nice to have a VCA infront of any module almost...hahah that is true. Esp. if it can saturate and boost the signal a bit also. can never have to many......
      This Tiptop wavefolder seems to be a top-notch wavefolder for sure!
      Have a good day, see u in the next vid :D

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I vaguely remember trying years ago with the 4ms RCD. If I remember right I got better results using a comparator before the clock input so I can vary the level more suiting the changing folding peaks and troughs. I'd have to try it again though to really be able to say much about it. Short version though ... yes you can definitely do similar things with folders and clock dividers.

    Hi Ben, it’s really interesting watching you test different sonic territories for different modules. How do you approach which sounds/aspects to show off? Do you just play around first with the module? Eg. This review focuses on melodic aspects/general usefulness whereas Alisa wave folder is mostly about how out there, and on-linear it is. Just curious, great review either way!

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi P, not sure to be honest. But thanks for taking note and watching multiple videos and noticing differences. I just aim to show what something is, what the controls are, how it functions and sounds. Then just push it around in different ways and modulate it with different patches to show some examples and more of what it can do. I didn't intent to make this more melodic than the Alissa it's just what happened on the day I guess.

    The panel makes it look like the "ATTEN" knobs are bipolar, i.e. attenuverters. Note the + and - symbols on the panel. But it seems like they only attenuate the incoming signal (no inversion). Can you confirm?

    • @DivKid

      it can process any audio you want to put through it. However more complex sources get messy quickly in wavefolders (in any, not just this one). The subdivisions will work too, however again more complex sources won't divide into subs cleanly.
