There is a way to tell the elevator to do what you want from the control unit, but you should have eyes on the shaft (not in it!!!). The schematics will get you there. I have a national-wheel-o-vator with the SRS failing, and cannot find the physical switch that is open. I did find a brake-engaged switch, which I reset from underneath (thanks to you) but the cab top electronics still show that fault. Wasome, Kelly Mama. My husband is losing his ability to walk due to nerve issues. And we've been thinking about getting an elevator. You're giving us a lot of information about the ups and downs (LOL) of owning a home elevator.
I love your pun! Cute. Sorry to hear about your husband's nerve issues. I can say that many folks have used the elevator in our house for various reasons. My parents and in-laws use it due to knee related issues, my sister used it when battling cancer, a friend who played for Cole's college basketball team stayed here when he was recovering from a leg injury, and when we need to carry large or heavy objects from one floor to the other. It surely comes in handy!
Nice job glad you got some professional to have a real look at your elevator. Funny something as little as rough edges on the track or Rail can cause such a big trouble
I agree, Martin. Very strange but I understand. Those rails are so smooth and when the guides run along a rough patch, it can throw the ropes off just enough for the switch to detect slack and trip. I'm glad the safeties are working correctly and, now, the problem has been identified and corrected. I expect many years of seamless performance!
I watched your elevator DIY, and I knew exactly where you were coming from in wanting to fix the problem yourself if you could. I'm glad you finally called osmeone out. One night years ago my little compact clothes dryer quit putting out heat and I really couldn't afford to have someone come out or even fix it if I brought it in. Many times when you bring stuff in to be fixed, you don't get your item back for months. So! I got bored one night and started taking screws off the back of the dryer until I was able to get inside to see if I could see anything I could fix. Turns out, I found the xact problem. The inside of the dryer was full of lint and I just needed to clean that out. I was proud of myself because I remembered where all the screws belonged after I was done. What ever you had to pay to get the elevator fixed was well worth it so you wouldn't get hurt. Things come up at your house often enough where you can use your DIY skills on those things instead. I sure was impressed by your problem-solving resolve when you were working on that elevator. Good, good job!
Thanks, Laurieb2851. Good job in solving your dryer issue. That could have started a fire! Attempting to fix things myself, first, has taught me so much. Problem solving skills, patience, confidence...all have been improved over the years. If I can't fix it myself, I will end up having to call someone. What do I have to lose?
Hey I just wanted to let you know that my sister is doing good she's still not able to go back to work and lift over 10 pounds yet but she is able to drive now God bless you and I love you
Hi. Thank you for this very helpful video. I might need to get this kind of an elevator installed at home for my elderly parents. Could you please share how long this took to construct/install at your home and any advice you may have? Thanks a ton :)
Sorry for the late reply. Just now seeing your question. I am not exactly sure of the install time line as we were at a rehab facility out of state during the install. I can say it took less than 122 days. It is a pass-through elevator with 4 stops, and was built exterior to the home (sort of like a chimney) so that took extra materials, siding, etc. A unit that resides inside the home would probably be much less expensive and cost effective, if doable. As for your elderly parents, I hope you get sorted out. My parents have benefited greatly from our lifts, too. I highly recommend! Keep me posted on your decision.
I really enjoyed your video. Sad to see you had so many issues. Being in the lift industry I really think tibia frustrating that some installs are done so poorly. Hope your son can use it without any issues.
I didn't know you had your channel . I'm so glad to see you as the star of your videos 😁 This is interesting to know about the problems with these kind of things , we are getting one installed soon , I'm not paralyzed but highly disabled most of the time . Anyway , nice to see you have a channel , I just subscribed of course ❤️
Thanks for subscribing, Real! I hope your elevator install goes swimmingly. Our elevator has been so helpful for so many, in addition to Cole. Both sets of our parents have used it (bad knees, other surgeries, etc.) and other relatives that had or have mobility issues use the elevator. We are so grateful our whole home is accessible.
Aw! Thanks, Life of Grandma. Princess is the cutest ever!!!! She keeps us in stitches around here with her antics, even when she is zonked out in her beloved bed. LOL Speaking of stitches, her big brother Kenai had surgery on Wed and she was very concerned about him. Kenai is stitched up from lower belly to top of back. 😢
Kelly, we just purchased a home with the same elevator. It runs on a high amount of power, when you installed yours did you notice a significant jump in your power bill?
No, this time it wasn't Charisma. It was Mr. Clem. He was hauling cardboard boxes and trash out of the attic and riding down with the trash to throw it away!
@@KellySydnorRollwithCole They are not illegal BTW. However, it is illegal to buy one to use on an elevator you don't own. But in your case, you could buy one. They should only be used by people who are trained though!
Momma Kelly, Justin is almost smart as you 😂😂😂! Justin is a cool 😎 guy. He surely knows his stuff. Cole you looks great. What are you doing to lose all that weight? What a great family!! Love the video. Thanks for sharing!

Hey i have a lot of experience with Waupaca lifts. I would like to help you furthermore in the future at no cost. I’m curious what controller you have.
Hi, thanks so much for your offer of help. Since this man came out to fix the elevator, I have had no further issues. His remedy worked, finally! I'm not sure what you mean by my controller. Can you elaborate?
How did he release the safety catch on the exterior door to get onto the car? I have one on mine that is stuck even though the car is at the same level as the door that is stuck.
Thanks, Cheryl. Clearly, I have learned a great deal on this visit. This is why I hang out with the repair pros. It takes a minute before they are on board but in the end I can tell they get a kick out of demonstrating their knowledge. And I am grateful for the lesson.
Well all this. Is new to me .As a nurse I work with patients in a Striker Bed at hospital but not home.i can't really say much about your son's case . We don't really have much of those injuries in my country.U may have some one in that condition from a stroke.Iamglad to have come upon u and child story on this channel . I am and have learnt a lot thanks for sharing .I don't think any homes in my country have elevator s in them about 2ago I went to a church and saw a chair lift.
What country are you in, Rhonda? We have used a striker bed for Cole to get him up to my sister's bed when she was in her last days. Her home didn't have an elevator, but we made sure to find a way to get Cole to her so he could say goodbye .
ITS GOOD TO KNOW THAT WHEN WE ALL TRY TO DO EVERYTHING OURSELVES AND HAVING SOMEONE ELSE WO HAS THE EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE IN HOMES ELEVATORS TO TEACU US ALL THE KNOWLEDGE TO REPAIR THING OURSELVES.. THANKS DIY MOM .. NEVER ASHAME TO ASKED FOR HELP WHEN ITS NEEDED....💪💪💖🐾
Thanks, Marguerite. Sometimes things can be figured out through common sense and applying basic understanding from things you have experienced before. I don't have much experience with troubleshooting elevators. It's not something I have been dealing with my whole life! HaHA. But, when I do call in a pro, you better believe I am going to learn as much as I can while they are here. 💪
People, stop being mean to Mrs. Kelly! Cole would NOT be as far as he is today without Momma bear and papa bear mode! Charisma and Quint as well. Honestly as a Paraplegic ( walking but still classified as one) it hurts because i wouldn’t be here without my mom working as hard as she did ( officially retired the other day!🙌🎆💪🎉). While my dad took care of me by my side in the hospital. So please, consider the roles that have to be taken in these situations.
Aw, you are very sweet, Megan. Sounds like you know the ropes. Gotta do what you've gotta do to get by! Paralysis is not for the faint of heart...only the brave! Peace, friend.
Kelly Sydnor Anytime Mrs Kelly❤️ We gotta support each other! Yes i unfortunately or fortunately know a lot ( not the full extent) of everything my parents have had to sacrifice and do. My dad is my primary caregiver, stay at home dad while my mom worked. When i was little is when most of my appointments and therapy’s were . ( Just an F.Y.I for Cole: I found out i had therapy 10 HOURS A DAY learning to walk so.... yeah Also it’s almost entirely from my brain )i can’t feel my leg muscles except for that muscles test😖. Hope i didn’t upset you just thought i’d share. ❤️
He was a nice man but I love Kelly mama and I think DIY Kelly Mama could have done the same thing and saved the money 😂😂😂. Ok maybe now you learned enough to do it on your own from now on. I think you are safe by the way he described the safety mechanisms that are in place.
how are you easily opening the door when the elevator is stuck between floors? I believe the gate was closed and then something fell in the elevator as it was being called down and now I can't get it to open!
kelly your brilliant lovely family, I just want to say to the maker of this lift, ant it about time showing some support for this young man and mother upgrading or taking full repair costs on. sorry, mum was just angry over this problem you got enough on your plate . all the best john UK

Kelly - You and your husband bring happy tears to my eyes. You all are dedicated to your children. You show love to everyone. GOD is watching and loves you too. I know your human, but good ones. I can't praise you all enough for your love of family. Jesus is Love
Fortunately, Justin was game for my videoing his expertise (I asked for his permission, first) and I never shoved the camera in his face. I have a zoom option that allows me to get close without invading personal space. 😆Thanks for your nice compliments ! I enjoy being a mother and working on projects, especially when it improves accessibility for my kid!
Momma Kelly you can actually purchase the pendants online, my dad uses one for his electronic hoist for his pedigree sheep so he can lift them into a tub to wash their fleece (that sounded crazy to type) 😂😂
There are times when you have to weigh safety against finances! This one of them........ I have 3 freinds that are elevator repairmen for OTIS elevator, I have some experience with elevators myself. I know your going to continue to go all DIY on this and no one is gonna stop you. All I say is lean to the side of caution! Confidence is a very fickle thing and doesn't replace actual knowledge..........
Thanks for watching and commenting with your genuine concern for me. When it comes to the elevator, my choices are knowledgeable and cautionary and I'm solidly confident in those choices. I'm even more knowledgeable now as are many others who have watched this video. It's mighty helpful to understand the workings of things you operate. Mighty!!! (My dad taught me well!) :) My confidence in not fickle. I'm either confident I don't know something and will learn (or not learn if I'm disinterested), or I'm totally confident in my knowledge of something. I'm also totally confident in my physical abilities and inabilities. I realize not everyone has the same level of confidence and, therefore, their confidence may be fickle. Again, thank you for caring and watching!!!
AS A 46 YEAR ELEVATOR MECHANIC WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE MAIN LINE OPEN THE COVER MAKE SURE ALL THE BLADES ARE DISCONNECTED THEN I STILL WILL CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE HIGH VOLTAGE LUGS BY THE RELEASE VALVE BEFORE YOU USE THE METAL TOOL I WOULD REALIGN THE CAR RAIL INSTEAD OF FILING RAIL
We’ve got an inclinator home elevator. It only stops on the way down. And that’s because the elevator overshoots the mark. So we push the elevator button again, either from the inside or the outside and it rights itself. Your video doesn’t tell me how to fix that. It was interesting though. 🙂
Ahhh, I've seen this before...even with our lift. When it was initially installed the technicians had to adjust it so it would land level on each floor. I didn't watch how they did this. 😕
I think you are "Wrenching Mom"(🔧👩🔧) rather than DIY Mom. Someone needs to get you a nice tool belt if you don't already have one. Very interesting video. I really like the way you get in there to see how everything works. The knowledge you gained will really help you trouble-shoot issues in the future. Take care.
Thanks, Skip! I don't have a real tool belt but would LOVE one. I have a belt I sometimes wear that is made for gardening tools. It isn't as user-friendly as a real tool belt. I end up stabbing myself with tools! I do have a great "job-specific" tool box and a large tool cabinet which I love.
I would add that even with the generator you need a battery backup for when power fails most generators with have a delay between power fail and generator start up
That was interesting. How many people--- out there--- know the workings of an elevator. I'm impressed with you Mom. BTW, have you ever noticed that Otis Elevator offices are (were) all in a one-story bldg? It's been a few years since I have seen (because I now live out there n the country) their offices. Like your site.
Thanks, Chibi Chibi. Not much info about elevators. I know because I have looked. This is why I recorded Justin. I appreciate understanding how things function, even if I don't work on a machine myself. It just makes sense to be somewhat familiar. Perhaps Otis Elevator didn't want to go the extreme cost of putting in one of their elevators, therefore only had one-story buildings ! 😂 Thanks for watching my site and liking it. I have more vids in the works. Stay tuned! 😃
Kelly Sydnor ~ They certainly are expensive. When we got our’s installed for my husband (21 yrs ago) I think it was around $8,900. Easier and cheaper to keep up with the existing one.
DIY MOM Kelly If I keep watching your videos. I want you know going in business for myself. Does honey it ain't nothing you don't know. If you don't know you going to ask. You going to research it? Very true! But the elevator has definitely broken down with Cole in it. Many times. We've had to call for emergency repair and wait for help. That is the main reason why I needed to learn what to do to fix it, myself. Fortunately, we have had no problems since our last fix!
I have a list of videos you can make for the future of your channel! I'd love more DIY mom, your skin and make up routine (You skin is amazing!), old videos of family time, any shopping or savings tips you may use, etc.
Thanks for the great ideas, Banana. Never thought about focusing on my skin and make up. I'm a fix it girl! Haha. I am an especially bad shopper. I can't stand it! I'd rather fix something, or reinvent it, than shop for something new!!!
It was probably only "illegal" for him to sell you one, aka he would loose his job. But it probably isant "illegal" for you to have or make one. Its probably only 4 wires, common to bring power to the pendant and 3 return wires. One for e-stop, up, down
I'm wondering, how often does the elevator get stuck? I don't how the framing system is. If the elevator shaft is boxed from outside, I wonder if it insulated. If it doesn't, PERHAPS the constant weather change (temperature) may have something to do with it being stuck often. Structures move, expand and contract due to this. Perhaps insulting the shaft (if it NOT) might solve this constant malfunction. Bring this up to the experts see what they say. Just a thought!
MaParis, Justin figured out why the elevator was getting stuck and corrected it. It was snagging along a rough joint. He filed it down and everything is good!

Yay!!! I LOVE your elevator videos!!!
Thank you!!!
I love DIY Mom she is the best & she cracks me up so funny. Keep doing whatcha doing. 😊
Thank you! Will do!
....”but I’m DIY MOM” !! I love the PIT!
Honey, one of us needs to go to the pit and reset the unit. Take notes and perhaps YOU can do it and I won't have to!

Hey I just wanted to let you know that my sister is doing good she's still not able to go back to work and lift over 10 pounds yet but she is able to drive now God bless you and I love you
Wow! Good for your sister. Being able to drive is a game-changer! Thanks for keeping me posted.

We are back in business with no issues (knock on wood!).
Nice elevator! glad to see everyone ok
Thanks. The elevator was a game changer for us, no doubt.
We are so grateful our whole home is accessible.
you’re such a great person, love your videos
Thank you so much!!
Thinking if your family during this time.
Stay safe.
Awesome informative video. I was so waiting on any video from you🙄🤣🤣🤣 thank you 4 sharing. How is Princess?
THANK YOU! I still appreciate the last video about the topic, but I'm glad to see the root cause was (hopefully) resolved.
So far, so good. Absolutely no issues! Glad you like the follow up.
Great video! There are neat mural wallpapers. Would be good idea for your elevator shaft.
Thank you, dolphyn2. Great idea with the wallpapers. I will consider, for sure.
Looking for a home elevator. Do you recommend this brand? What is it? Up one possibly 2 stories.
This is a Waupaca elevator and, yes, I do recommend it. Once the installation issue was finally solved, we have had no issues.
Kelly, we just purchased a home with the same elevator. It runs on a high amount of power, when you installed yours did you notice a significant jump in your power bill?
The elevator broke again and Charisma didn't get stuck?
No, this time it wasn't Charisma. It was Mr. Clem. He was hauling cardboard boxes and trash out of the attic and riding down with the trash to throw it away!
It was Clem daddy. Last night on Instagram Charisma recorded Cole in bed about 8 pm and I wondered what happen.
Blessed be God for all the love and care. Your commitment is So Amazing!
Thanks, Caroline! ♥️
Kindred spirit. Moms have to learn all sorts of things when their kid is in a chair!

Hey i have a lot of experience with Waupaca lifts. I would like to help you furthermore in the future at no cost. I’m curious what controller you have.
I work for a company that was a dealer for the former Waupaca company.
I think you are a genius DIYMom. Now you are even smarter.
Yay for Justin! That was interesting.
Thanks, Suzanne. I think Justin hit it out of the park.
You have a elevator in your house?! That’s very cool!😎🤘
Thank you! I agree with your assessment. I can fix it now AND feel perfectly safe in the pit. Thanks for watching.
Kelly Sydnor thank you. I enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your precious life and family with us.
Hi, I have a residential elevator also for my son, who is a paraplegic. I have a hard time finding repair people. Where can I find Justin?
how are you easily opening the door when the elevator is stuck between floors? I believe the gate was closed and then something fell in the elevator as it was being called down and now I can't get it to open!
That was so interesting, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Another informative video from Kelly Momma !! Thank you for sharing.. I know if it breaks down again you will know what to do 👍🏽!!
Yes Ma'am! I sure can. Poor Justin. I shadowed him all day. Bet he's never had anyone do that. What a great sport and excellent teacher.

Thank you for your sweet comments, Jacquie. Yes, we are dedicated to our children and our families. Please stay safe and have a blessed day.
excuse me but what area is this in. I am in Atlanta Ga and need a new elevator tech. Do you recommend this company?
I do recommend this company, Priority Elevators. I'm not sure if they have a division in GA.
imagine trying to fix an elevator and you have this lady shoving a camera in your face😂... otherwise tho great mother! good work
Fortunately, Justin was game for my videoing his expertise (I asked for his permission, first) and I never shoved the camera in his face. I have a zoom option that allows me to get close without invading personal space. 😆Thanks for your nice compliments ! I enjoy being a mother and working on projects, especially when it improves accessibility for my kid!
You are a wise woman. I have some fancy generators, dive way detectors. You & I are of the same ilk.
Thanks, Steven. Sounds like we are of the same ilk!
I used to hate going up and down the stairs...I would have loved one of those...
It also helps for hauling Cole's equipment and medical supplies!
Momma Kelly you can actually purchase the pendants online, my dad uses one for his electronic hoist for his pedigree sheep so he can lift them into a tub to wash their fleece (that sounded crazy to type) 😂😂
Hello,
What's the name of that yellow control in his hand ?
It is called an elevator pendant.
@@KellySydnorRollwithCole THANK YOU ;-)
The OSB board was probably used because it's easier to anchor bolts to than 5/8 sheetrock.
I think the OSB board might also be fire rated. Best of both worlds!
Good for you for fixing your own stuff
Thank you!
There are times when you have to weigh safety against finances! This one of them........ I have 3 freinds that are elevator repairmen for
OTIS elevator, I have some experience with elevators myself.
Mighty!!! (My dad taught me well!) :)
My confidence in not fickle.
He said it was illegal to get a pendent but I have to get one to, and I know where to get them at as far as the legal goes I'll have to check.
Goes to show trades are important too!
Agreed! Mad respect for tradespeople!
You are a super mom, good spirit
Thanks, Lesang!
If you file that down so its smooth is the brake not gonna grab in an emergency?
No, not at all. The brakes are gnarled and will grab without fail. It's an awesome safety feature. Thanks for your question and for watching.
Parabéns pelo canal...Você é uma ótima mãe!!
I would add that even with the generator you need a battery backup for when power fails most generators with have a delay between power fail and generator start up
Also I forgot to mention I am a trained elevator technician who is also a installer for Waupaca/ fox valley
Actually, our generator transfer is practically instantaneous . I guess I should consider myself lucky. Didn't realize most generators had a delay.
i like ur videos greetings from the neterlands
Thanks, ninja k!
Stay tuned! 😃
Time to “elevate” to a better brand of elevator lol
LOL! I think we'll keep it considering how expensive they are. I think Justin fixed it!
Kelly Sydnor ~ They certainly are expensive. When we got our’s installed for my husband (21 yrs ago) I think it was around $8,900. Easier and cheaper to keep up with the existing one.
why does Justin nail file the OSB on on the elevator?
I'm sorry, I don't understand your question.
Freaking love you. I just found your video...love your beautiful heart...and beautiful family.

Very true! But the elevator has definitely broken down with Cole in it. Many times. We've had to call for emergency repair and wait for help. That is the main reason why I needed to learn what to do to fix it, myself. Fortunately, we have had no problems since our last fix!

The elevator guy has more patience than i do
Justin is a great guy!
