    It is possible to keep heat selection higher and fan speed lower. This will somewhat reduce warm air loss from the cabin exhaust flaps. This works ok if there is 1 person breathing inside :)

      I have played with the combination of fan speed and temp control. You are right it's an optimization to keep the windows clear and keep your feet from freezing. One thing I did in our Mitsubishi IMIEV was to block the passenger footwell duct to try to get better heat on the drivers side. There are a lot of tricks you can do but I really wanted to evaluate how well the car can do without any mod's. The heater is powerful enough to keep you warm and that was one of the parameters I did not want to compromise in this test.

    When you turned off the car and went out to fill the fuel, when you returned and turned on the car, did mode (HSOC) need to be turned on again or does it remain on? and tell us how the car behaves if you drive in the city in (HSOC) mode at a level of, for example, 50%? How much quieter is it? Does it turn off more or charge the battery more? If you drive slower, does it charge the battery above the set threshold or does it just turn off?

      Thanks for the questions. Not really sure but when you turn the car off you have to re engage HSOC again I think. In the city HSOC works much better it will keep the car SOC. The REX has i believe two speeds and in the city it runs at the slower speed most of the time and is quieter. Mind you my rex is pretty quiet to start with. I don't find the engine running really bothersome or overly noisy. But that being said i really don't use the rex very much. the REX will not really drive the battery beyond the set point maybe it will slightly like 0.5 or 1 % but nothing more then that. It just shuts off when you get to the set point. Most of the time in the city it will also shutoff when you are stopped like for example at a traffic light.

    ReX warmup is 360 seconds. In this time max output is not available.

    At highway speeds and if driven very moderately in the city there is no difference between eco mode and comfort. On the highway this is true because of physics, and if you really thought about it for a second, at 90 KPH for example it takes a specific amount of power to maintain the speed, so no matter what mode you are in it will use the SAME amount of energy. (It slays me how people think they are getting more range at a constant speed using eco mode. In the city on my 2015 i3 I drive to conserve energy and use regen alot and when I switch to eco mode there is literally no difference. I believe the car was programmed to maximize comfort mode rather than any other mode.

      Hi John, Yes I agree the mode of the car Comfort/Eco pro/Eco pro + can't change physics. These "modes" only change the amount of heat/AC you get. Comfort allows for full heating/cooling. Eco pro allows for a reduced heating/cooling. Eco pro + allows for no heating/cooling. The throttle response also changes with the mode to encourage more eco driving. However all of this really has not much to do with this video. I drove the car in eco pro so that I i would have some heat as it was -13 deg outside and I did not want to freeze in the car. The main take away point of this video is that at highway speeds and low temps with the heat on in eco pro mode it is very marginal for the REX to maintain the battery SOC. I made this video so people would realize that. I was driving 90 KPH. if I drove faster the SOC would drop even more rapidly.

      @@dondakin1 Thanks for the response. I find that at a constant 90 kph and 2 degrees (Celsius), setting the heat to about 22 only takes about a 8 km hit. (Obviously colder temps will degrade the range even further. Considering I have the rex and optioned so I can turn it on anywhere below 75% its perfectly fine for my needs.

      I find something similar...however this is with a heated battery (preconditioning). This morning at - 3 c and no pre conditioning it was showing 18 km deficit. This will improve as the battery warms, but preconditioning is key. Also checking the battery Temps, I find that after 3 hours the battery temperature was around 7 degrees where it is supposed to warm the battery to 10 using a level 2 charger.

    If u really look at your trip it did actually great ur miles never really chged the % varies based on battery temp before u basically got 50ish miles at 73% battery 🔋 by the end of video and battery warming ur now getting 50 of range at low mid 60% soc with mean u were more efficient than when u started far has cold weather battery health

    These are first Gen model i3. You need the 2017+ rex

      I agree a bigger battery would lessen this effect.

      @@dopiaza2006good point a higher output rex would be a better option then a larger battery which would ultimately suffer the same issue as the small one albeit farther down the road. Guess that would make the i3 closer to a volt.
