Think Edge. Redis as a process takes 50 meg to run on arm architecture. I run Redis many years on a 500 Mb arm processor.
Redis can implement many of the features of a Kakfa stream system although at a lower data volume.
Cloud like features can be implemented at the Edge because Redis acts as the event broker and the edge architecture becomes a micro service environment.
So why is this important to Cloud providers? Data from edge systems will flow to the cloud.
The ideal flow will not be by MQTT updates, but by updates by coordinating the event brokers at the edge with the event brokers at the cloud.

After about five years of developing irrigation system, I recognized that my software needed to become more cloud like. In 2018 I presented a paper at the Redis 2018 conference on nanodatacenters.
Redis Labs is not interested at the Edge. This leaves a spot for IBM for to move into this area. Remember trade journals are saying that 85 percent of data will be consumed at the edge.

Another redis application would be to have a redis server app for android and ios phones. This will allow an eco system of bluetooth sensors apps and display apps to work together in real time
If the local redis data base was coordinated with tje cloud db, then this may allow faster gsme playing apps and reduce cloud db load.

Nice presentation explaining why you chose Redis, but what is Redis?

I didn't find simplicity here, It can be more simple. It should cover one problem statement, what redis is solving, etc.

do these guys really write in double reverse, or is some sort of technology at play here?

There is no clear explanation about what exactly Redis is.

Redis is database that stores data in memory it can be used in real-time applications requiring low latency and high-throughput.
