The softer lines are back in Patch 4! The "Old Dialogue" in this video is now the current dialogue and the "We're not close - you and I.." line is either gone or left for lower approval ratings. Let me know if you find anything different of course but that's what I saw when I ran through things again today.
The harshness of "we are not close, you and I" was really unexpected. Like we had max approval and had a really sweet and friendly exchange at the camp party in act 1 (saying we appreciated each other's friendship) and then for him to be like "don't be delusional, we're not close" was like well damn bruh rude af ok
So true ; -; I’m hopeful that they’ll put the softer dialogue back. I can understand it in the one where the favor is Neutral (I kinda bullied him to stay in that playthrough because it was the goblin path) but it doesn’t fit the higher approval ratings.
They keep messing up my sweet nerdy guy :( I think they're trying to over-correct his bugged approval system bc he was overly clingy to some people previously, but this patch is affecting people who actually like him

Well damn. So there's no middle ground between strangers and lovers? That last line makes me feel like Tav should have an extra line "...so why didn't you summon another?"
I can't imagine they actually intended for all approval levels to get a cold shoulder like that, I'm putting my money on it being a bug. It actually seems like they tried to implement a new dialogue, either to replace the old neutral one or to add another tier but screwed it up and it ended up replacing all the other options.
I bet you’re right! I felt a similar way but didn’t want to wait for who knows how long to make the video. I do hope they put back the other lines, they seemed much more flavorful

I had Gale with me constantly save for a couple times and I got the delusional/not close comment also. Later in camp he tried to thank me for sitting with him (like I had a choice) and apologize and 'hope we can still be friends and more'. I was so put off by the harshness of the comment in an otherwise beautiful scene, I never spoke to him or had him in my group again. Thanks devs :(.
i like to think that "were not close" was just a mistake while gale was not in a good mindset, and that he regreted it considering WE ARE BEST BROS, dude never leaves my party
Wooow, what a difference! Can't believe I was supposed to have the exceptional scene, I thought it was intentional that he was so cold towards my Tav. It made sense, because he was romancing both Astarion and Gale until Gale called him out and he had to choose ; n; So it really felt like he was putting a very strong boundary and distance between them. I cried a little ngl. That's when I decided to romance him on my next run, which I started almost immediately. No regrets, still think it makes sense, but ouch ' n '

I was SO UPSET at this scene. I had done the Gale romance first, then I did a run as Astarion and then an "evil" run (killing the grove). I had done so much work to get his approval high, especially on the evil run, but the Astarion run hurt the most. Astarion and Gale were best buds at exceptional rating, this scene comes on and I'm terrified. Both Wyll and Karlach had tried to have romance scenes with me just before this (Astarion was just being nice, stop trying to pull him from Shadowheart people!) and I was right after a Gale romance so I was like "what choice do I pick, I don't want to have to break Gale's heart too!!!" And then it's not a romance scene... relieved! But then he hits me with we are not friends and Astarion was heart-broken. They were best buds, wtf!!! At the camp, Gale went back to being best buds and it was so jarring. It seems like a bug, in my opinion. Didn't stop me from feeling hurt during my evil run where it was so hard to get his approval high!!!
@@FauxShi He sounds upset we didn't romance him which is in stark contrast with the changes they made in act 1 to make it easier to refuse Gale without being a total asshole.
I literally fought for this exact scene when I romanced Astarion but wanted to be friends with Gale when I saw this was an option. I had max approval with him by this point, but I hadn’t had the Weave scene, as I had gone straight to romancing Astarion, but then when I finally got this scene and he was so cold towards me, I couldn’t help but feel a bit…cheated? I thought it was due to not doing the Weave scene and selecting friendship. At least I know it wasn’t cause of me missing anything…though I’m very disappointed they removed that line. Really really hope it’s a bug and they’ll fix it soon, cause I loved the original line.
I agree, I really prefer the old one this one is so harsh. That really sucks that you were aiming for this specifically just to be met with such a callous line D: let’s hope they put it back the way it was!
Oh, thank God! My latest saved game is right before this scene and my male character is already in a relationship with Lae'zel. I'm saved! (Make no mistake, Gale is a great guy and I typically have my female characters get with him. But my one complaint with relationships in the game was other companions coming onto me while I was already with someone else.)
I get what you mean - my first playthrough I didn’t get this scene with him at all but knew it was his romance scene from other videos. When I saw that little icon in my second run I was like 🥺 don’t make me give him a weird rejection… so glad we can be friends (or “not close” 🥲)
@@FauxShi My run as Astarion had Wyll dance scene, Karlach hitting on me... with such BAD reactions to being turned down. Astarion was romancing Shadowheart. I literally had to accept Wyll and then break up the next day during the usual "pick Wyll or Shadowheart" conversation because it was the only way Wyll wouldn't give me hurt puppy eyes! I have no idea how I managed to give mixed messages, nobody but Shadowheart wanted my first Tav. Astarion is apparently a sexy magnet. And then I got the ! for Gale and I was like "oh no, I don't want to hurt Gale's feelings, he is Astarion's best bud!" Funny tho... by my third run (evil), I had forgotten all about this and both the ! mark gave me a fright and then the "we are not friends you and I" broke my heart all over again. GOD DAMN IT!
