I feel a little guilty calling you "ken" since I had to peek at someone else's reply to recall your name. I don't know you. That sounds like a good investment. In any case, the device looks more robust and stable, so the logs will definitely not swing so hard when loading and unloading. The operator is also safer up there, it seems to me. I'm happy for you all.

Always nice to see y'all upgrading/ adding equipment so you don't have to rely on others. In my former life of working in a plastics manufacturing facility for 27 years we often had down time due to not getting material in on time or other supplies like boxes. When you make billions of containers and lids a year it takes a lot of supplies just on the molding end. Sometimes we would get color in that didn't mix well and they had to have it reformulated. I know many times in years passed we had to slice open 55 lb bags of plastic pellets into a big gaylord aka cardboard box. When 1 machine would use 4,000 lbs in 8 hours and you had 7 other machines it is a grind lol.
Nice looking, well designed, tough, dependable, versatile, wish I had one . . . Oh, excuse me, that’s the daughters. Looks like a fine trailer, too. I imagine Emerald really appreciates you doing these videos occasionally because it’s got to be hard for her to come up with fresh content nearly every day.
One thing I see on your trailer is you may want to cover the area over your axles on the trailer to protect your air valves and hoses. A friend of mine asked me to weld a plate over his axles because a piece of wood went through the opening and cracked a fitting on his brake housing. That trailer looks like it will make things alot easier for you all. Great to see you being able get better equipment. Keep going!!!
Thanks for the video Ken always good to see you and hear what you have to say. The equipment is awesome and Camex it should be noted is a Canadian company so as a Canadian I was a little proud to see this represented.
Ken, I've run a tri-axle Mack boom truck with a tag trlr and I had forks for it. And it had remote control! It was such a hoot to do that job. I hauled logs, precast concrete, pipe, steel, pallets of stone and retaining wall block and more. Wish I was closer, I'd be hounding you for that operator job! I'll have to enjoy watching you have the fun from up here in Northern Vermont. Can't wait for the vids of that unit in action!
Should add some more versatility and adaptabilty, on the fly, to the operation for sure. Looks like a smart acquisition in order to keep things running smoothly, without being at the "mercy" of other haulers. Take care and God bless. 👍🇺🇸
Thank you boss man. You are definitely in tune with the growth of your business. Admire all of your family. They all know how to think on their own. WORK SMARTER is what I see in every video.
That will be very helpful. It looks tough and versatile. I look forward to seeing how well it handles some of the log roads. Thank you Ken. Great job.👍👍♥️
Boss Man, it's always nice to see your excitement. I think the new log loader will work well for you. I look forward to it being out in the woods and seeing it in action. Thanks for another great video and enjoy what is left of your weekend!
Hiya to you all, Another great video; thank you. I even liked the 'Dad Joke'. Versatility, the ability to supply yourselves rather than rely on others, is essential to your growth. I remember a multi-billionaire talking on TV years ago; the thing he said that stuck out most was, 'If you use it, own it!' He had just purchased a hospital in the American city where he was based. You seem to have a similar mindset, do not be a hostage to others. Stay safe, Steve...
Boss Man, You've got a great piece of the "pie" to help you with hauling and storing logs. I enjoy your wisdom and business sense. Stay warm, safe and have a blessed weekend...
Love getting the info right from the horse's mouth. Great analysis of your situation and your potential! Thanks for that thoughtful video.-Miss the girls though.
Wow Ken! So happy you have a new piece of equipment to hopefully increase production, which it sounds like it will, and make your jobs easier. Good for you! Looks like game changer.
Ken this looks like a good fit for your business. I understand your point of being a boutique mill needing a few logs to complete an order, this will fill the bill and for the time being you will be able to use the Trucks you have. I gather you are not planning to load the trailer up to Max GVW every load. Good success with this new piece of equipment and have a good weekend!
I love seeing all the new equipment investments you guys are making for the family biz. You are setting yourselves up for greater success in the future!
That depends on how deep he is in with the bank. I get the impression that without free family labor the business would not last long. I'm skeptical about dropping that kind of coin on this kind of equipment because now he needs a 400 series truck! There goes another $50 grand.
Nice looking trailer! Beefy looking. I agree with your feeling that a 3500 is light for that trailer. Our municipality had a 5500 ram short wheel base, it’s a plow/cinder spreader truck and summer dump truck for us. Turns on a dime, could get that gooseneck in and out of some very tight spots. Engine brake works great too. We also have a Chevy 6500, nice truck, a lil heavier gvwr 22,500 vs 19,500 for the dodge, but the useful payload is the same. Not sure about combined totals though. Biggest problem with the Chevy is it takes a city block to turn it around, much longer wheelbase. Great new trailer Ken! Glad you finally had a nice day to work outside. Was a lousy weather week. Stay safe!
You started out as a “do whatever it takes to get this place into the black” and evolved into a boutique operation. Your name brand and customer base are working hard for you and allows you to invest in equipment that saves time, does a better job than your current manner, and lightens the load for the family to get things done. A new piece of equipment, bright and shiny, gets folks excited and visually reminds them for weeks that you are moving forward. I suggest that you immediately devise a plan to accommodate half of your workforce by more ways and equipment to move your products around the yard, those daughters may stray away when they finish schooling. They are solid ready to do their own thing because of what they learned from their work and their parents. It’s easy to see the independent streaks in their manner and behavior. Your customers’ demand for your products and services will continue to refine; choose the paths that generate the most profit per hour worked and your later years will still be busy, just more pleasant. Add a few grandchildren into the mix, and you’re gold!
I agree that's just about half of a full-size big rig, load capacity. At a gross of 88k, 20 tires on the road. a 10k loader, not lifting capacity, but the added steel on the truck. And one 8k drop axil, you can move about 20 to 24 ton out west. . Subtract the self-loader and keep the drop axil, a common configuration in Oregon/Washington. You move about 26 to 29 ton. Of actual cargo. . They allow a few more tons when stretching out for 40-foot logs. moving under 37s, you loose that 2 tons ish. but gain in scale as they want an average of 36'+trim for the export market. . 0.01c
