The Ford Falcon is a model line of cars that were produced by Ford from the 1960 to 1970 model years. The first compact car marketed by the American Big Three automobile manufacturers (though antedated by the Rambler American), the Falcon was the third car line introduced by Ford, following the full-sized Ford and the Ford Thunderbird.
In contrast to its competitors, the Falcon was developed as a scaled-down version of the full-size Ford Galaxie sedan. Through its production, the Falcon was offered in the same body styles as its full-sized Galaxie counterpart, including two-door and four-door sedans, two-door hardtops and convertibles, two-door and four-door station wagons (the former, serving as a basis of the final Ford sedan delivery), and coupe utility pickups (serving as the basis of the Ford Ranchero).[1] During its production, the Falcon served as the basis for multiple Ford vehicle lines, including the first generations of the Ford Mustang pony car and the Ford Econoline/Ford Club Wagon vans.
Through the 1960s, Ford produced three generations of the Falcon, all derived on the same platform architecture. For the 1970 model year, the Falcon was replaced by the Ford Maverick, through the 1975 introduction of the Ford Granada, the chassis of the 1960 Ford Falcon was used through the 1980 model year in North America, and until 1991 in Argentina. Following its initial 1970 discontinuation, Ford marketed a second "1970½" Falcon, serving as its lowest-price intermediate series, slotted below the Ford Fairlane and Ford Torino.

I believe the jab was directed at the Chevy Corvair, also a rear engine vehicle.
Yes. And Chevy didn't make it easy - they moved the spare to the rear engine compartment and slightly tweaked the front panel significantly increasing the Corvair's trunk size for '61.
Cool upload, never seen those before and good quality, too! Of course, the "engineering breakthrough" of the Falcon was that it had absolutely no engineering breakthroughs lol
Due to the high cost of manufacturing the Corvair's unique rear engine, General Motors was forced to delete quality trim in both the 500 and 700 models. However, the Monza model saved the Corvair due to its popularity even though it was even more expensive.
For that matter, they're comparing the standard Corvair 500 door panel to the one that was part of the Falcon's optional deluxe interior.
You may not be able to get a grand piano in a Falcon, but I did once get a full-size refrigerator in a Honda Fit.
The Valiant had the superior drivetrain (Slant Six and Torque Flite) and suspension (torsion bars) but its styling was too bizarre for many.
I wish the Dodge Lancer had been the Valiant. I have heard that the Lancer was planned to be a DeSoto model.

The Valiant and Lancer were the same basic car from '60-'62. The tail lights, trunk deck and maybe grill were different and probably the dash emblems were different. The Valiant and Dodge Lancer/Dart often shared the same bodies over the years. The '60-'62 Valiants and Lancers, along with the '62 full size Plymouth Fury and Dodge Dart have to be among the ugliest, if not the ugliest, cars ever made. @@timothykeith1367

In 1970 I bought my first car a1960 falcon 4 door automatic gutless but fun to drive,our family owned it for years!
I'd buy one today, but they can't make them like this anymore.
Saw one of there Adys stating the car was supposed to get 30 MPG , now that could highway or city and highway, But if its highway thats not bas for a car that's all steal and very little plastic, the car was very ease to work on as there was lots of room under the hood
So, to days car get how many MPG
Ford sold that car worldwide I believe. That Mad Max car with the supercharger coming out of the hood was a Ford Falcon ;) Ford sold a lot of cars in Europe!
Ford still sells a lot of cars in Europe. They have a whole European division, as you may know. The Falcon was big in Australia, up until quite recently, I believe.

I like the jab at the VW bug, then it mentions headroom! I am 6'6" and my head didn't touch the ceiling in my 69 Beetle. I would like a 2dr Falcon today.

I think the job was at all of the competition to sell the public a great economy car after what they were just driving around in the 50s in the fifties, I would love to have another four-door falcon

Golf clubs..ladie's luggage suitcase..Grand piano..now what could be more boring, square, and bland then a Ford Falcon..there is only ONE car, an early/mid 60's Rambler American, the ultimate 'squaresville' family car, I know, I was 'there' as a kid. Now go visit your Dad in the day at his drafting table at work with his short sleave white dress shirt, his pocket pen caddy, a 'pencil' thin dress tie, wing tip cordovan dress shoes, and a crew cut hair style..E-gawds..and I'm 68.
