This is the masterpiece of Anthony Phillips in my humble opinion. It is the most innovative of all his works. This is where he finally said damn them all. I will write what I like.. So many beautiful changes and he keeps it coming with his musical virtuosity. Just great music that will live on. Thank God for composers like Anthony Phillips.
I have been searching for this music, I listened to it while writing my Masters Thesis. I listened to this over and over again!!! This is perfect music for serious thinking and writing!!! I was writing on the work of Jacques Derrida and Maurice Blanchot. That study enabled me to finally understand the‘meaning of life’ in the way I approached it. Afterwards, I didn’t know that I had anything else to worry about: therefore, I dropped out of the PhD program and went in search of a real world vocation. Luckily, I found one: one that enabled me to help many families that needed the financial assistance that I secured for them. I am grateful that I managed to find a way to be a productive member of society: it wasn’t easy to find...
Certainly one of my top favourite albums by AP, along with The Geese & The Ghost. It merges most of what I enjoy particularly in his music. New classical music for the 21st century. I really wish he had done more like this.
What an extraordinary piece of music this is. At times I hear French composer Michel Legrand (2:19), Mike Oldfield (12:01, 12:25), even Tony Banks (2:50, 21:02). But there is no doubt: this is pure, unadulterated Anthony Phillips at his very best. The man is a true master of harmony. With his music he can steer your emotions as deftly as a conductor's baton. Love every moment of it. ❤❤❤
If only I had time, I would click "I like it" on everyone of mr. Phillips's songs and albums... anyway thanks by hearth to post and share this beautiful, mindcalming and dreamy music !
After a long morning browsing the political dailies with a cup of tea in my hand, my bay-window overlooking the sea with the sounds of this concerto on the background, it was just a perfect conjunction !
Thanks for sharing this. I discovered AP circa 1976, and own all albums except Meadows of Englewood, which I haven't been able to find. Great music, though my favorites will always include Geese and the Ghost, Sides, and Wise After the Event. AP played on a Steve Hackett album. Steve said he wouldn't even pick up a 12-string in AP's presence.
Thank you for the upload again I enjoy revisiting some very productive days!!! During that period of time, I also listened to Brian Eno and Steve Tibbetts and some Jon Hassell. I apologize for the run-on sentence. I am not as good a writer as I should be...
CorLeo56
So enjoying that still people discover this gem, that I bought at his first release in CD in early nineties, a brilliant masterwork between orchestra and studio with a cross classical to new-age influences, unfortunately so forgotten. It deserve to be better known. Merci
markusmala Yes, I discovered this in the early nineties also. That was during one of my uncontrollable visits to a record store. Truly uncontrollable. I was still in Graduate school and as broke as my classmates were. All of us probably took years to climb out of that debt...
Fantastic composition, what a musician...and by far the most sympathic of Genesis members ! Every album a revelation...maybe he gets the notes from angels, who knows ;)
Comunque molto apprezzabile...!! Good job
Kate Murphy They are a little crazy and confused these days...its Googles Empire influences YT unfortunately, some decisions are just ununderstandable at all...more a mess than taking care ! Sorry you cant subscribe...maybe in a while you can,try again ;)
Unfortunately Anthony Phillips always walked in the shadows of Banks, Collins, Gabriel, Hackett and Rutherford, although his musical output is one of the most exciting one of all Genesis members. Very fine track!
Very Tangerine Dream in places. Wonder what would happen if Phillips and Banks did a composition together? No doubt Antony would be shut out with Tony taking the lead and implementing all his melodies and poor Antony being reduced to a couple of bars at the end lol !

Anthony Phillips' music is the best kept, brilliant, moving, musical secret. Thank you Mr. Phillips.
mapav Absolutely
Agree totally and not only that he's an incredibly nice guy.
Thank you for lettin' me know this beauty. Thank you Mr Phillips for creating one of the best moments in music history.
Pure spiritual beauty rolled into one incredible composition. Wouldn't expect anything less from Anthony Phillips.
It's never too late for good music ! : )
This is an exceptional composition by This fantastic guitarist of Genesis with so many Lyrical parts.. and reminds me Mike Oldfield a lot...

it was worth the search, wasn't it? you must be an extraordinary person ;)
Jane Lane Yes it’s worth any complex techie trickery... And thank you for the compliment
Jane Lane Quite worthy of the search. This brings back such great memories!!!
Ant is a God but what you say is BS
When his deep music inspires life meaning happenings. Listening to it again it feel like a soundtrack, then it is a life soundtrack.
Anthony Phillips is a genius!
Just beautiful. Captivated with Ant Phillips since Tresspass of Genesis days. Loved his first solo album The Geese and the Ghost. Immense talent.

Definitely Ant's best ever work since "The Geese & The Ghost"! Love this album!!
19.30 to 20.30 one of many highlights for me. Beautiful!
More brilliant work from Mr. Phillips. Side one is astounding and side two is even better.
If only I had time, I would click "I like it" on everyone of mr. Phillips's songs and albums... anyway thanks by hearth to post and share this beautiful, mindcalming and dreamy music !
andxmenx If you try to give too many likes, You Tube will turn them into dislikes. I learned that the hard way.
Beautiful. A whole new catalogue to discover.
this sounds like something out of a beautiful fantasy movie
I don't know how often I heard the first 5 minutes of this masterpiece of music
Love the beginning and of course the hole piece
Beautiful thank you for trying to get and sharing
So many refreshing ideas and sounds in one piece of music. Masterpiece!
ich liebe es! beide Teile, einfach perfekt! Danke Anthony Phillips !!!
Very Special, the man was totally unapreciated
Was? - He's not dead yet, is he?
Ohm speakers recommended to hear the depth of this music. And an Ant never dies ...
21:25 begins one of the greatest sections of music ever composed. So wonderful.
You're welcome! Always great to meet another Anthony Phillips fan!! Everyone should hear his music! :)
Classic prog

I agree as I jumped to purchase the CD around 1990, still a masterpiece. Thanks for post
markusmala I still have this CD. This IPad won’t play my CDs. So, here I am...

It's a great part that was a bit of a surprise first, 2 minutes (from 12' to 14')
.....it lift's the spirit and calms the soul and creates inner peace.thank you for this.....
Fantastic composition, what a musician...and by far the most sympathic of Genesis members ! Every album a revelation...maybe he gets the notes from angels, who knows ;)
Don't forget shifting to part 2, it is worth it
This would make a fabulous film score.
Has a Morricone flavour at times

my favourite for ever!!!
@ponytear I couldn't agree more. Wait til you hear Part 2!! It's just as beautful if not better :)

Unfortunately Anthony Phillips always walked in the shadows of Banks, Collins, Gabriel, Hackett and Rutherford, although his musical output is one of the most exciting one of all Genesis members. Very fine track!
When he was with the band he was top contributor.

Genesis' best kept secret, to the same extend as Jon Lord's solo work is to Deep Purple....
Very Tangerine Dream in places. Wonder what would happen if Phillips and Banks did a composition together? No doubt Antony would be shut out with Tony taking the lead and implementing all his melodies and poor Antony being reduced to a couple of bars at the end lol !
:)
This music is on a par with the masters of classical music. It brings me a sense of peace, serenity, heavenly magnificence. Ant, thank you.
:)
