What kind of sorcery is this? What did you guys do? This came up as a recommendation out of nowhere for me. This is the best surprise I've had in a very long time! Thank you for creating this!
Someone sent me the link to this in 2016 in an attempt to rekindle my waning interest in metal. I bookmarked it and slept on it. Took a listen today and discovered that not only is it fantastically melodic and diverse, but parts of it were produced in my hometown. The regret is real. I haven't enjoyed a new metal band this much since my first listen to "Still Life" decades ago.
This album doesn't age, it's as breathtaking today as it was when I stumbled upon it roughly 4 years ago. Everyone associated with this, you're all legends!
I absolutely agree; I have heard this whole album 100x over and over. However, I would LOVE to get a new album. I feel that we are overdue. I am not ungrateful for the masterpiece that we have already been gifted. But I would love to experience a continuation of this glory.
@@thelightyears_ Nah, new album is faaaaaar too self-indulgent. It does have some highlights, though. Overall, though, this is a much more consistent, listenable, enjoyable release.
Ok, i NEED to say this.... This is BY FAR the best "random" music i have EVER heard in the last what? 3 or 4 years? I was listening to Haken's Affinity album and this just came in the sequence. I'm SO HAPPY that youtube gave me this. Please, DON'T YOU GUYS EVER stop making music. This is a FUCKING MASTERPIECE 12/10. Eargasms AT FULL POWER!!! P.S.: The track "Crater" is just OUT OF THIS WORLD. GEEEEEZZZZZ
7 years have passed since the day this fantastic album was published. And this album is still as amazing as the first time I heard it. Always giving me a lot of shivers, and a high sound quality. I'm looking forward to the release of the new album... Thank you very much for the effort, time and affection that you had to show this work of art to the world.
Contemplation Of The Beautiful... 8 years passed.. i still cannot stop talking about.. one of the best songs ever written! Production and vocal performance is on another level even today!
+macaron3141592653 There is no other way we could have done it! I'm glad you appreciate this. Jamie spent 4 years orchestrating this himself, starting it at Yale university where he was honing his craft. We are all so proud of Jamie for creating this. We care about having "life" in our music and by collaborating with other musicians instead of midi, we can gain more of that life in a timeless way.

Really, that's what I was going to say when I scrolled down to comment! By some chance I clicked on this on my home page. Never heard about them before, but I've been listening to Leprous so I guess the recommendation is based on that? If any of you haven't heard Leprous. Listen to Coal (the full album). Maybe a bit more heavy/progressive than this, but still. One of my brother's greatest finds.
Probably the best progressive metal album I've ever heard. Still goes hard even 6 years ago when I heard it. I came as a sevendust fan because Lajon was in mob mentality but grew to appreciate the other songs on this album. What a cinematic journey this record is.
same thing here, if I believe their FB page, they had a lot of traffic these last few days. Could it be that they are making their breakthrough? It's all I wish them ! :)
I found this back in high-school, when it came out. Listening to it again after a couple years, and I'm still blown away. This is still a masterpiece 5 years later. And will be forever. The fact that you guys are so underrated blows my mind
I definitely see and feel the passion behind this. I actually started to tear up realizing who the featured singers were. This band made the experience something special. Thank you.
Stumbled across this album about an hour ago, it is still paused at 12:52 as I am writing this. This is absolutely stellar! Why nobody has pointed me in this direction before baffles me. It is paused because I went over the the Earthside website and ordered the album, Now I am contemplating whether or not to continue listening or wait for the physical copy and have that first listen experience the old fashioned way, while checking out the booklet.

I've been on a mission lately, seeking out all the great rock bands from the 70's that I missed and there's loads ! NOW... I'm discovering numerous other fantastic bands from other eras and stumbled across this... WHAT A BELTER !!!
The hole left because they are still on hiatus? Or because you were disappointed with their later releases? Two very different holes. Credit to this band, but that PT hole can be filled by Steven Wilsons solo work, I promise. ;) I almost am completely at peace with their 6 years of inactivity. Stevens solo work is really out of this world
PT was never this hard. Agree. Also listen to TRANSATLANTIC. It is a supergroup made of several dudes from DT, PT, Marrillion etc... AMAZING. bUT i STILL love this band SOOOOOO much. Glad I saw them live a few weeks ago. Look for my Videos on YT. The sound sucks due to the venue but they are amazing
I just want to say I appreciate this music and all the effort that was put into it. I've been listening to this every day since I found the album. The singers that were chosen, the arrangements, the notation, the tones, the soundscapes, the recording, the mix, this whole album is so well produced. I have great and deep gratitude for the respect you guys have for music. I feel like it's very hard to find music these days that is so well cared for that it creates a huge amount of emotion and energy. P.S. I love the term "Cinematic Rock" totally on point with that.
Every time I see a band put their album up for free themselves, I'm bowled over by their bravery and respect for their current and future fans. I'm loving this first track, I'll listen to the others, and the chance I'll buy the album and all that come after will probably be high as hell. Thanks, Earthside, and this is a great way to make new fans!
I just found this by accident on one of my "lets check out albums and bands I've never heard, related to other things I like" sprees. FUCK. ME. THIS. IS. AMAZING!
I listen to PROG almost everyday and this just showed up in my "suggestions" tab and I have never heard of Earthside before, so I so what the hell, and I AM IMPRESSED!!! This is great!!! I want to buy this album now. Its PURE PROG and it rocks!!! I have to thank TH-cam for the wonderful suggestion!!! Now if only ads didnt pop up in the middle of a song, I wouldnt have anything to complain about, well at least not about TH-cam.
I've discovered this album in 2016. I have listened to it meticulously throughout the years, the arrangements and performances on this album are outstanding. This is definitely one of the best prog metal albums of the last 20 years.
+huvostyle I'm sorry, but you're severely uneducated. all music more or less sounds like some form of either European classical, South American, Asian, or African music, or else a combination. the industry has had almost no hand in how music sounds, just what sounds get popular. hardcore punk and extreme metal come from punk rock and heavy metal, come from dub and hard rock, from reggae and rock n roll, from ska, rnb and blues, from soul and jazz, from gospel, swing and big band, from African and neoclassical, and so forth. and all of it is one and the same; music. just because this ambient prog metal band has a symphony orchestra on tracks doesn't mean all forms of rock sound like classical music. aggressive and angry music has been around since classical times. when Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis started making music, it was the most aggressive and abrasive sounding stuff at the time. music has only ever evolved, and continues to daily. but modern (80s to now) punk and metal are not the first types of music to embrace dissonant or discordant sounds. to insinuate that these genuine movements in musical history were fabricated by "the industry" is incredibly ignorant. even awful overproduction and autotune were not invented by the industry, they were just little musical trends that happened to get big and everyone started doing them. the industry helped today's easy-to-make pop music get popular, but they've had this formula since before the Beatles. ever since big record labels were stealing black artists' music and repurposing it for a white audience they've been dumbing down music and packaging it into a nice little sellable box. it has also been breeding artists that naturally do this, even unknowingly and before they are part of a label or 'the industry,' just because that's the way it's been for so long. I suggest a bit of research before making such sweeping, uninformed statements. TL;DR - chiggity check yoself before ya wreck yoself
Im open to learn everything, and i appreciate your information. What you say make really sense, i just don't study this... Here in BR we don't have this education, everything i know i learn by my count . Thnaks man!
kakashi66132 You don't have to know every bit of music history to appreciate a song/album, some people just like things for what they and you don't get to be a critic of others for taking that approach and even though its different to yours
I'd love to get the FLAC files for this album. It is so well mixed and mastered . . its a treat to be able to discern what each player is playing. Not to mention, this is such a great album. It is so well thought out and has a great feel to it . . hooked on this for days now.
Came here when it's was just with 50.000 views... Keep listening this for all this time. And i come back here, almost 2 million views! It is awesome. I'm really very happy for you guys, you deserve it.
Just read some of the comments, most people found you with random clicks as did I. i often go through TH-cam just random clicking, If I find something I want to check out I bookmark it and come back to listen, If I really like it I will go buy it. Now that Pirate radio has gone in the 70s, this has to be the way forward to be heard. You rock, I;ll be back to listen to the rest, when I won't waken the rest of the house. I would love to go to one of your gigs, but this far north in Scotland I doubt if I will ever see you live. Good luck with you music guys.
What's new about the genre? Orchestral with guitar? It's pretty Euro, back from days of Within Temptation and Nightwish. They have some great time signatures and drum riffs which you can also get listening to tool or dream theatre. A clever mix. But nothing is really that 'new'.
@@igornaimoli7321 indeed they have created some unique melodies and lyrics here, and within some amazing compositions! My comment wasn't a criticism of the music. But I don't think 'atmospheric' or 'cinematic' are great descriptors of music, much less trying to invent new genres like Universal or nu-metal to try to describe some emotion which has been evoked countless times before.
When you type "Dream Theater" to listen a bit of prog metal from your childhood/adolescence from the first 2000's decade, and find something better by accident. This blew my mind!
+DannyStatuz I think this album took something like 6 years to make, what with the scattered musicians all over the globe. It might be another while. Although, I hope not that long!
After a few seconds of listening i immediately knew this is a masterpiece. However, as the listening goes by, it just keeps getting better and better. This is beyond beauty...

HOLY SHIT! Absolutely incredible work here. The most unique sound i've heard in a while. beautiful...
Check out Riverside.
In one word? Addicting! This album is addicting. It's a real masterpiece
This album never gets old. Whenever I listen to it, it captures me in another world.
This is the best thing the TH-cam Algorithm has shown me in a long time.
This is now my latenight go-to. The atmosphere, writing, performance and insanely good production in this makes me feel things that nothing else does.
I think I found the glue to repair the hole in my heart left by Porcupine Tree. That glue is called Earthside.
The hole left because they are still on hiatus? Or because you were disappointed with their later releases? Two very different holes. Credit to this band, but that PT hole can be filled by Steven Wilsons solo work, I promise. ;) I almost am completely at peace with their 6 years of inactivity. Stevens solo work is really out of this world
Try out some Opeth
Totally agree. Steven's solo stuff is alright but there isn't much like their group music.
The sound sucks due to the venue but they are amazing
i think Steven Wilson 2nd album "Grace For Drowning" its one of the best albums in prog music, and also try "disperse", great band from poland ;)
Very well said
this album is so well written. varied yet cohesive, compelling yet subtle. has a lot of re-listening value.
Devin Townsend brought me here. Lajon Witherspoon piqued my interest. The incredible songs earned my love.
I thought I heard Lajon's voice.
I keep listening to this masterpiece of music over and over again, it's tireless... in each passage there's something new, impressive!
awesome riffs. thank you for letting me fly with you. that's how it makes me feel like I'm soaring.
Keep playing such wonderful songs.all of you are geniuses
This whole album is UNBELIEVABLE. Incredible melodies and musicianship ✊🏼
I came here from... I don't remember, because this just blew my mind!
I just found this by accident on one of my "lets check out albums and bands I've never heard, related to other things I like" sprees. FUCK. ME. THIS. IS. AMAZING!
This is simply mind blowing! What a masterpiece.
First time I hear about this band, and Naïve. Unlike so much of rock music, this is not music full of violence. I can listen to it while I am writing.
I agree. Really rock music sounds like classical music. The rest: only music industry.
let rage consume you
+huvostyle I'm sorry, but you're severely uneducated. all music more or less sounds like some form of either European classical, South American, Asian, or African music, or else a combination. the industry has had almost no hand in how music sounds, just what sounds get popular.
hardcore punk and extreme metal come from punk rock and heavy metal, come from
dub and hard rock, from reggae and rock n roll, from ska, rnb and blues, from soul and jazz, from gospel, swing and big band, from African and neoclassical, and so forth. and all of it is one and the same; music. just because this ambient prog metal band has a symphony orchestra on tracks doesn't mean all forms of rock sound like classical music.
aggressive and angry music has been around since classical times. when Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis started making music, it was the most aggressive and abrasive sounding stuff at the time. music has only ever evolved, and continues to daily. but modern (80s to now) punk and metal are not the first types of music to embrace dissonant or discordant sounds. to insinuate that these genuine movements in musical history were fabricated by "the industry" is incredibly ignorant. even awful overproduction and autotune were not invented by the industry, they were just little musical trends that happened to get big and everyone started doing them. the industry helped today's easy-to-make pop music get popular, but they've had this formula since before the Beatles. ever since big record labels were stealing black artists' music and repurposing it for a white audience they've been dumbing down music and packaging it into a nice little sellable box. it has also been breeding artists that naturally do this, even unknowingly and before they are part of a label or 'the industry,' just because that's the way it's been for so long.
Thank you Hasan! If you go to our bandcamp, you can purchase the album in FLAC! earthside.bandcamp.com/
TH-cam has been recommending this for years and I have only just heard it now. What is wrong with me?
Joseph Bastidas same here. I clicked on it one day just to get it out of my recommendation but I’m glad I found it.
Where should I start? 😝
This is a new genre called universal. It's more than metal. Every lifeform in the universe needs to hear this music; it's the music of the cosmos.
it's just nu-metal dude.
What's new about the genre? Orchestral with guitar? It's pretty Euro, back from days of Within Temptation and Nightwish. They have some great time signatures and drum riffs which you can also get listening to tool or dream theatre. A clever mix. But nothing is really that 'new'.
@@InkyChloeGarcia This is basically atmospheric cinematic progressive rock/metal. Not completely unheard of, but very original and unique regardless
@@igornaimoli7321 indeed they have created some unique melodies and lyrics here, and within some amazing compositions! My comment wasn't a criticism of the music. But I don't think 'atmospheric' or 'cinematic' are great descriptors of music, much less trying to invent new genres like Universal or nu-metal to try to describe some emotion which has been evoked countless times before.
welcome .. . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . we've been waiting for you.
Sorry.. . . . .
I’ve kept you waiting.
Found this by accident. Stayed by choice.
+Nessa Nevermore me right now :D
pareil mademoiselle !
Pretty much my experience here
same fam
Found weed on accident, smoked it by choice.
A fresh take at the awesomeness of what God has given us for creation. A gift from The Center
One of the best albums in recent memory. Thank you Earthside!
Yes! New material is coming! Woohoo!
When you type "Dream Theater" to listen a bit of prog metal from your childhood/adolescence from the first 2000's decade, and find something better by accident.
This blew my mind!
You guys worked with Dan Tompkins.
So please join the Tesseract Polaris tour
for triple pleasure {Contortionist}.
By the way Magnificent Album.
Amazing! I can't get enough of Daniel Tompkins voice. Dream In Static is a must listen for everyone.
what is this genre, beauty is not enough to describe.
so...when is your next album coming out?.... NEED MOAR
+DannyStatuz It took them several years to produce this i think you must be patient, unfortunately!
+DannyStatuz I think this album took something like 6 years to make, what with the scattered musicians all over the globe. It might be another while. Although, I hope not that long!
Just randomly played this. And now you have a new fan. Great work here!
This is one of my favourite albums in 40 years of listening to rock/metal 👍🤘🏿
I agree Daniel, the Porcupine Tree sound is back. Yet, you have your own distinct gifts. Fantastic.
A beautiful discovery for today... That's the way brighten up this September ☺️
After a few seconds of listening i immediately knew this is a masterpiece. However, as the listening goes by, it just keeps getting better and better. This is beyond beauty...
