I do not believe there was enough pressure for the water to push the sand under your bulk heads, I believe it was your old fittings and the fact that you had to Bondo the bottom to make a "Flat" surface area for the bulk heads to seal to. Old fittings and an uneven flat bottom for them to adhere to. Other then That your set up is very clean and I look forward to mimicking your set up in the future well done Sir!

I, as well as many others, have used a tub similar to this for a temporary tank or frag tank. When I set mine up the overflow went through the side and down to sump. I set up the drain at the height to which I want the water to be. Much less work and you can then use sand. You can put it on the back side if your are worried about aesthetics. Never crossed my mind to go through the bottom. Although the new glass frag tank I am setting up does have an internal overflow...so I guess I will have a drain on the bottom of my frag tank very soon. Is there an advantage to going through the bottom versus the side in regard to using a tub?
