I went to an elite private college with half the class being what I considered rich kids who’d attended private schools. With few exceptions, they were perfectly normal, except that they took for granted what I considered luxuries.

I know a few, particularly one family who's house had to be build all custom, with a custom road to get up there, with custom water lines, etc. 21k sq ft... they are pretty low key actually. But the likelyhood of running into these people are pretty slim. That's what my original reply was.

If you ever hire someone to build a custom home, look for someone who enjoys it and takes pride in a job well done, and doesn’t treat it as just a 9-5 kind of job.
doesn't sound too bad. I got family here that live in a Heritage Listed homes. You have to fight tooth and nail to get even the most basic of home maintenance like just painting a single wall. It's so difficult fighting with the City Council and the Heritage Council that most heritage homes are falling into ruin and disrepair. :( I think dealing with Disney would be far easier and far less stressful.

I should be used to it by now but I always get sticker shock when I walk up to the counter. I was at the Magic Kingdom last night. I had to laugh when I saw an all dried up, partially crumbed rice crispy treat shaped somewhat like a Mickey Mouse for $5 bucks and a woman was actually fascinated with it and was about to buy it until another more expensive treat caught her eye. $10 popcorn makes me laugh as well. The dollar store sells 3 times as much popcorn in a bag for a dollar and still makes a handsome profit. Of course what they are really selling is the park. It is a .50 cent bucket of popcorn with a $9.50 view of the Magic Kingdom.
Well they have like 10k workers and each ride cost a million a week to operate. So it makes sense why it’s so expensive they have to or else they can’t operate.

When compared to home/condo prices in New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, or Miami... Golden Oaks doesn’t have as much of a sticker shock.

My job requires me to come here almost daily- it’s actually a really nice place with some people using it as a main home. Also the people are really nice, they’re not snobby unless you go to the Four Seasons residential section back by the hotel. Those people are jerks.

It's not that simple. Disney is experiencing overcrowding issues. Disney is raising prices to alleviate the crowding issue but people keep coming so the cycle just keep repeating. People are willing to pay for experiences more than ever especially with the accelerate growth of social media. With stable inflation the price of goods and services should double every 25 years. But that's why the Disney price has more than double in the past 10 years.

It’s really not that crazy. You have a billionaire who has young kids that love Disney and you don’t want to hassle with hotels for the next 10 years, you pay for this convenience and the comfort of living in your own home a few times a year. Also, these same billionaires probably travel down to Florida in the winter to relax, golf, etc.. IMO, this a far more practical purchase than a 2nd or 3rd Ferrari or whatever other luxury items are typically purchased by the guys as you may even make a profit when it comes to selling the home down the road

There’s one that features a slide, a steampunk media room, hidden rooms, secret pathways, a Weasley family style kitchen…. Many more features. It’s awesome. Other than the kitchen, it mostly has Disney features. Oh yeah, it has a Beast Library! It’s worth it to look it up.
Excellent video. It accurately lays out what the Golden Oak community is all about. Anyone who finds Golden Oak too rich for their blood might want to consider a home in Celebration, another nearby community originally developed by Disney. Truly the best way to look at Golden Oak is a resort/second home for the rich.

Dan Saber The exteriors are limited by the HOA guidelines. Each neighborhood has its own limitations. However, once the exterior design is approved, the interior design is up to you and your architect and interior designer. If you think the design is mundane, change it to suit you, inside the facade. Lots of options available.

technically they would be. Ever since the shooting in Las Vegas Disney security often checks all their rooms and such frequently just to make sure everything is on the up and up. They pose as housekeeping on non-housekeeping days sometimes and such like that. It makes me feel all the safer for it and I don't find it intrusive so I don't mind... but yeah they do watch you.

I mean, it's not like most of us aren't being watched most of the time anyway. Most cities and other urban areas have a LOT more cameras than the ones we actually see, and any device you own that has facial recognition is technically watching you, even though it's very unlikely that a human is watching through it.

I understand some houses now are literally condemned to be unsafe to live in!
I live in Colorado. It’s become crowded as f*ck. The “scenery” has been eaten away by all the out of state transplants gobbling up land and plopping down McMansions. My brother said if the Californians are going to come here and buy up land he was going to move there and be a menace. So he got a job in the cable company and tells people he’ll be there between 9am and 4pm. It’s his way of “giving back”.

I remember once seeing a total breakdown of costs and amenities for golden oaks and the math coming out to be actually moderately reasonable if you are wealthy enough to afford it. I once heard of someone trying to rent his home in golden oaks out though to pay for the yearly fees and being told he wasnt allowed to. they have a pretty insane HOA from what i remember. I do know they changed the golden oaks membership like 10 years ago too. before they used to get that 3 year pass for life but i dont know when it was changed but the club 33 thing was added in. Frankly if i was a golden oaks owner i would say i want club 33 access for LA too but that club is meant to be even more exclusive than the florida one and from most accounts isnt worth the price anyway.
Those homes aren't that expensive for someone with plenty of money. Some of those homes cost less than $3 million. The more expensive homes cost $5 million or more. That's affordable when compared to how much mansions are costing in Los Angeles.

To those considering buying here I’ve live no more than one hour away from Disneyland my entire life. Living near a Disney park gets to be mundane after awhile. You are not going to be going on special tours. As for fine dining, golf, and the other amenities that Disney world has to offer, this can be found around most ordinary communities, and especially those communities that golden oaks residence already come from. While the wealthy could afford this I think after a while they will have realized they’ve wasted their money. Not unlike someone less wealthy who realized they’ve spent way too much on that delicious churro.
The main reason I go to WDW is to have fun at the parks. There is nothing extra that the rides can/will do that will compensate for spending that kind of money! It's great to come back after a day at the park and someone cooks and cleans for you. However, they can't stop the rain spurts, the heat, or walking through the crowd, fix that and then let's talk.
WoW! This person said you get housekeeping, roomservice and shutlles to and from the park. Well you can pay for housekeeping, you can pay for room service from the Four Seasons, If you live in the Four Seasons part of Golden Oak. and you can get a shuttle IF you give them 24 hour notice, before you need to be picked up. As far as being a member of Club 33. I believe they give you the option to Join it. It isn't included.

Try moving to Australia. An average home in Melbourne or Sydney is upwards of AUD$1.2mil, or USD$936, 000. Also, they're not exactly large either, not like your American homes, which are huge. If you want a 3 bed family home with 1.5, maybe 2 bathrooms for the aforementioned price, you're looking at an hour long commute to work everyday at best. And those additional HOA fees and taxes? If you live in or around Melbourne you can triple what Disney makes people pay for these "mansions" every year and you might come close.
Its not only about home price, don't forget property taxes, home insurance, HOA fees, utilities and some other fees in that place. Anyway it's beautiful....I have been there delivering food as ubereats driver.

As an annual pass holder who visits every week, I had only heard stories about Golden Oak, but it’s a gated community. This video really feeds the dream of living in WDW. The idea is not bad. But for Disney owning this I find the houses kinda lackluster. The houses are really beautiful especially 6:26 one. If all these house were built outside then they would definitely had lot of buyers. However since it's Disney's property I would expect something Disney like straight out of fantasy. These looks like common mediterranean house. I would expect atleast one house to look and feel magical.

It's not that expensive. You'd probably pay the same amount of money to stay in a super nice neighborhood (in Beverly Hills for example) in the same house. You get many more benefits with the Disney World homes, not to mention that it's literally the best neighborhood ever since it's basically a wonderland, especially if you love Disney.

@@potfairy from what I understood you can live here full-time (and according to comments of people saying they drive Uber there, some people do), it's just that it counts as a resort. It's like a house by the slope in Aspen; you can live there year round if you have one, it's just a vacation home on paper (which is probably how Disney is able to maintain control over it all in a legal sense).
It probably wouldn't have been this expensive, but it would have been this exclusive...especially when you factor in the prevalent housing discrimination at the time.
Wow 400k for 3 bedrooms near Disney World is pretty cheap. It could actually be a good investment for rent and live in on certain time of the year. Houses in Silicon Valley are 1 million + for 3 bedroom 2 baths and the shitting part of Silicon Valley are now in the high 700K to 800k now.

I'm wallowing in my 1951 stand-alone two bedroom 765sq ft.1story on slab condo among 136 others, about 60% owned, the rest rented, fortuitously in a upscale nicely landscaped area near downtown Madison, Wisconsin. No onsite golf, tennis, pools, garage, community area etc. They DO mow the lawns, leaf removal and clear the sidewalks in winter, garbage cans need to be brought to the cross street. That is part of the modest condo fee ($60 mo.). I'm 72 and retired. I'm coping (with my two dogs). No complaints (also "no hips or knees" that function well). We did "do" WDW as the two children were growing up. Loved it!

Myth: Celebration is owned by the Walt Disney Company and/or is a part of Walt Disney World. Fact: It is true that Celebration is located on land that used to be part of the Walt Disney World Resort. However, it is now a part of Kissimmee and Osceola County. Disney retained ownership of some assets, like the downtown area and the golf course, for a while, but they were both recently sold. Currently, Disney still owns commercial parcels near I-4 on Celebration Blvd. Their development arm, The Celebration Company, is in the process of marketing to potential buyers, most likely for hotels.
Golden Oak homes are crap. When I bought my home in Orlando, my realtor hired a home inspector and he told us that he inspected the first phase of Golden Oak homes. He said he reported so many issues with the homes, that Disney told him not to come back. They would get another inspector.
If and when I get such a house in Florida, I would love to make it a gaming console home where I can play my Switch. Decorate the walls with anime posters. Also is there shuttle transportation to the parks?
And 6 miles, just the other side of the Magic Kingdom cast parking lot & Disney University is Windermere, where I live and 2 more miles you come to "Isleworth of Windermere" and they advertise their real state as "For Those Who Can Afford to Live Anywhere" and many celebrities including the past estate owner Tiger Woods live there.
They are not given access to Club 33, they are given priority in purchasing a membership. Where you would normally need to have an invite and be put on a list.

I live in a 3200sq ft home in Oklahoma it's 5 bedrooms 2 1/2baths 3 car garage, formal dining , regular dining room, sunroom we use as home gym, and a safe room/ Tornado shelter, huge yard and it was $230,000 .
In my opinion, this is just absolutely ridiculous and kind of dystopian. The houses themselves are so tacky looking and the idea of it all is incredibly strange.

We had to chuckle as we visited Disney and saw where Golden Oak is. It's really close to Fort Wilderness Campground. So for a lot cheaper you can just bring in your rig, trailer, or tent and not be too far away. But across the street practically it's 8 million????? Doesn't make sense to us. And the supposed gate / wall didn't look high enough to keep a potential unwanted visitor out.

My job requires me to come here almost daily- it’s actually a really nice place with some people using it as a main home. Also the people are really nice, they’re not snobby unless you go to the Four Seasons residential section back by the hotel. Those people are jerks.

It's so weirdly secretive, you'd think there'd be influencers going into great detail about what living or holidaying there is like, but beyond house tours and "come into Disney with me" vids there's not much detail about what day to day living is like there. I'm assuming there's rules around what you can and can't put online about the area.
My mom owns a cleaning service where she cleans mansions that are only lived in 3 months out of the year... I’ve helped clean these homes and feel awful that these places just sit alone for so long... Ah, to be rich and privileged... 🙄

It’s really not that crazy. You have a billionaire who has young kids that love Disney and you don’t want to hassle with hotels for the next 10 years, you pay for this convenience and the comfort of living in your own home a few times a year. Also, these same billionaires probably travel down to Florida in the winter to relax, golf, etc.. IMO, this a far more practical purchase than a 2nd or 3rd Ferrari or whatever other luxury items are typically purchased by the guys as you may even make a profit when it comes to selling the home down the road

Excellent video. It accurately lays out what the Golden Oak community is all about. Anyone who finds Golden Oak too rich for their blood might want to consider a home in Celebration, another nearby community originally developed by Disney. Truly the best way to look at Golden Oak is a resort/second home for the rich.
Reunion resort is a pretty good place too, not to far from Disney and the houses their are beautiful as well

However, once the exterior design is approved, the interior design is up to you and your architect and interior designer. If you think the design is mundane, change it to suit you, inside the facade. Lots of options available.

technically they would be. Ever since the shooting in Las Vegas Disney security often checks all their rooms and such frequently just to make sure everything is on the up and up. They pose as housekeeping on non-housekeeping days sometimes and such like that. It makes me feel all the safer for it and I don't find it intrusive so I don't mind... but yeah they do watch you.

Also the quality of the houses originally built in Celebration was so bad that in less than 10 years ppl were already having to replace drywall, electrical sockets, light fixtures, fences, even roofs. Many lawsuits have been filed thru the years by residents due to very poor quality materials being used on all the houses. I understand some houses now are literally condemned to be unsafe to live in!

I remember once seeing a total breakdown of costs and amenities for golden oaks and the math coming out to be actually moderately reasonable if you are wealthy enough to afford it. I once heard of someone trying to rent his home in golden oaks out though to pay for the yearly fees and being told he wasnt allowed to. they have a pretty insane HOA from what i remember.
I do know they changed the golden oaks membership like 10 years ago too. before they used to get that 3 year pass for life but i dont know when it was changed but the club 33 thing was added in. Frankly if i was a golden oaks owner i would say i want club 33 access for LA too but that club is meant to be even more exclusive than the florida one and from most accounts isnt worth the price anyway.
Those homes aren't that expensive for someone with plenty of money. Some of those homes cost less than $3 million. The more expensive homes cost $5 million or more. That's affordable when compared to how much mansions are costing in Los Angeles.

To those considering buying here I’ve live no more than one hour away from Disneyland my entire life. Living near a Disney park gets to be mundane after awhile. You are not going to be going on special tours. As for fine dining, golf, and the other amenities that Disney world has to offer, this can be found around most ordinary communities, and especially those communities that golden oaks residence already come from. While the wealthy could afford this I think after a while they will have realized they’ve wasted their money. Not unlike someone less wealthy who realized they’ve spent way too much on that delicious churro.

The main reason I go to WDW is to have fun at the parks. There is nothing extra that the rides can/will do that will compensate for spending that kind of money! It's great to come back after a day at the park and someone cooks and cleans for you. However, they can't stop the rain spurts, the heat, or walking through the crowd, fix that and then let's talk.

WoW! This person said you get housekeeping, roomservice and shutlles to and from the park. Well you can pay for housekeeping, you can pay for room service from the Four Seasons, If you live in the Four Seasons part of Golden Oak. and you can get a shuttle IF you give them 24 hour notice, before you need to be picked up. As far as being a member of Club 33. I believe they give you the option to Join it. It isn't included.
So their passing off these cheap made homes for millions just so you can go early to the parks??? You can get the same homes 10 minutes away for 300 to 500k

Try moving to Australia. An average home in Melbourne or Sydney is upwards of AUD$1.2mil, or USD$936, 000. Also, they're not exactly large either, not like your American homes, which are huge. If you want a 3 bed family home with 1.5, maybe 2 bathrooms for the aforementioned price, you're looking at an hour long commute to work everyday at best.
And those additional HOA fees and taxes? If you live in or around Melbourne you can triple what Disney makes people pay for these "mansions" every year and you might come close.

I've never felt poorer than after watching this.
The idea is not bad. But for Disney owning this I find the houses kinda lackluster.
The houses are really beautiful especially 6:26 one. If all these house were built outside then they would definitely had lot of buyers. However since it's Disney's property I would expect something Disney like straight out of fantasy. These looks like common mediterranean house. I would expect atleast one house to look and feel magical.

It's not that expensive. You'd probably pay the same amount of money to stay in a super nice neighborhood (in Beverly Hills for example) in the same house. You get many more benefits with the Disney World homes, not to mention that it's literally the best neighborhood ever since it's basically a wonderland, especially if you love Disney.

@@potfairy from what I understood you can live here full-time (and according to comments of people saying they drive Uber there, some people do), it's just that it counts as a resort. It's like a house by the slope in Aspen; you can live there year round if you have one, it's just a vacation home on paper (which is probably how Disney is able to maintain control over it all in a legal sense).

I'm wallowing in my 1951 stand-alone two bedroom 765sq ft.1story on slab condo among 136 others, about 60% owned, the rest rented, fortuitously in a upscale nicely landscaped area near downtown Madison, Wisconsin.
No onsite golf, tennis, pools, garage, community area etc.
They DO mow the lawns, leaf removal and clear the sidewalks in winter, garbage cans need to be brought to the cross street. That is part of the modest condo fee ($60 mo.).
I'm 72 and retired.
I'm coping (with my two dogs).
No complaints (also "no hips or knees" that function well).
We did "do" WDW as the two children were growing up.

Myth: Celebration is owned by the Walt Disney Company and/or is a part of Walt Disney World.
Fact: It is true that Celebration is located on land that used to be part of the Walt Disney World Resort. However, it is now a part of Kissimmee and Osceola County. Disney retained ownership of some assets, like the downtown area and the golf course, for a while, but they were both recently sold. Currently, Disney still owns commercial parcels near I-4 on Celebration Blvd. Their development arm, The Celebration Company, is in the process of marketing to potential buyers, most likely for hotels.
Golden Oak homes are crap. When I bought my home in Orlando, my realtor hired a home inspector and he told us that he inspected the first phase of Golden Oak homes. He said he reported so many issues with the homes, that Disney told him not to come back. They would get another inspector.
Was considering purchasing one until they said you couldn’t rent it out. Smh

And 6 miles, just the other side of the Magic Kingdom cast parking lot & Disney University is Windermere, where I live and 2 more miles you come to "Isleworth of Windermere" and they advertise their real state as "For Those Who Can Afford to Live Anywhere" and many celebrities including the past estate owner Tiger Woods live there.

I live in a 3200sq ft home in Oklahoma it's 5 bedrooms 2 1/2baths 3 car garage, formal dining , regular dining room, sunroom we use as home gym, and a safe room/ Tornado shelter, huge yard and it was $230,000 .

We had to chuckle as we visited Disney and saw where Golden Oak is. It's really close to Fort Wilderness Campground. So for a lot cheaper you can just bring in your rig, trailer, or tent and not be too far away. But across the street practically it's 8 million????? Doesn't make sense to us. And the supposed gate / wall didn't look high enough to keep a potential unwanted visitor out.
