I think this is the second of your videos I have watched. You explain things so clearly without a lot of extra chit chat. I’m subscribing.
I can't thank you enough Becky for this tutorial. I'd not had much success with FSL and almost gave up trying until I watched this video. I changed the needle size, slowed the speed down and bought and used some Tpins. Success each time. It has given me the confidence I lacked with using my embroidery machine.

My local dealer sells the Floriani version that I used to make FSL snowflakes with my Bernina, I only needed 1 layer and didn’t need pins. It’s always a good idea to use matching thread in the bobbin.

I am in the middle off stitching out the OESD sewing machine. Thanks for the advice on how to dry pieces. I layered with one layer of aqua mesh and the heavier sulky plastic like stuff. I’ll let you know that worked for me

Loved your video,,,T pins sure help. I also used Organ 75/11 Anti-Glue needle. First time ever…perfect, no problem stitch out for four ornaments nested in a 5 x 7 frame! So exciting!!

I use toppers on everything. I did a test for a class to show how the stitches sit in and on top of the different fabrics. It was eye opening to my students. Our Walmart doesn’t have anything like that or fabric. Great tip for T pins

I find T pins very helpful. I use them every time I embroider dense embroideries. I have had embroideries pull in so much that it really distorts the embroidery. Thanks Becky for your wonderful videos.

When I first got my Brother Dream Machine, one of the classes I went to, we made 3 dimensional angels. I’m think they were an Anita Goodesign pattern. It was made in one hooping but the wings were a separate pattern and once everything was stitched, the body and the wings were tacked together. I was smitten! I must have made dozens of them! I gave them to everyone! They were beautiful and yes, really easy to do. The hardest part was matching up the perfect spot to tack the wings to the body. I made them in gold, silver, white, pearl and blue mostly. And yes, they were beautiful! I think it’s time to make more! Thanks Becky for taking the time to share this. Isn’t it super fun when you find something really easy to make that turns out just so beautiful. Thanks for the tip with the T-pins. I must get some.
I think I have these designs in my old files we just reloaded on the laptop. I had not seen some of my files in years after the old serial port laptop died. I used it with the old Amazing box system 20yrs ago. I used rewritable cards. I just got a PE800 for my birthday recently: Now i have to learn the set up. With usb drive in place of cards Technology marches on….

Thank You for the GREAT video! I just finished my 1st attempt at Free Standing Lace. It worked just like you said it would. I didn't have metallic thread, but used white embroidery thread, and my project turned out perfect. The T-pins are a Heaven Send, I used them on my Free Standing Lace and they have helped me with other projects that I was having trouble with.

This video has me rearranging my craft room so I can have my embroidery machine out and digging out the embroidery supplies.
Well I can totally understand that! I sold my old Ellegante 2 and put Gypsy, the new 3700D sewing/embroidery combo in its place and she's set up as a sewing machine while Darla, (my Lumi) is set up for embroidery. It makes the entire process smoother and more fun if you're not always changing feet on machines. Gypsy is about to switch places with my serger & cover stitch machines so she's easier to get to. Those machines that get the most use get the best real estate after all!

Yes, it is! I always buy combo machines.
I love the lace ornaments (and FSL in general). I did them one year for the family Christmas ornaments. I also have a FSL design for a Barbie gown that I've yet to start - with the size of the hoops these days, I can probably get all the pieces in one hooping. Of course, it would probably take all day.

As always, you make it look easy and fun. I do have a couple of questions. Did the t pins come up through the fabric? If so, how did you do it? Also, I have tried to make birth announcements with the Juju designs templates. They stitch out, but the fabric ripples when finished. Any advice? My hoop seems to loosen when stitching. Do you think the t pins would help with this problem? I recently bought some binder clamps and thought I could try these on the hoop to keep it closed. I have tried multiple times to make these, with multiple configurations, but they continue to come out with ripples around the stitching, and look pretty awful. I would like to mount them in a frame to hang, but even without the frame, they are not flat. Thanks for any help you might give me.
You might try a fusible woven stabilizer on the back of your fabric on the birth announcements. I've found that to be extremely helpful for designs with heavy satin stitching. Hoop poly mesh and the fabric with the fusible woven on the back. A common one is Pellon's SF101. Good luck!

So on a multi needle (I have a melco) since I can’t wind my own bobbins to match the thread (I guess it only uses pre wound bobbin fill bobbins) how can I get around that? Like for example for freestanding snowflakes ornaments with metallic accents. I’m stumped. I’ve been doing these for years on my single needle
A Melco uses a Size L bobbin which is standard. I bought a package of Size L metal bobbins and a stand-alone bobbin winder (both in my Amazon store in my Embroidery Favorites). I use this bobbin winder to make all my bobbins when I need a specific color. amazon.com/shop/powertoolswiththread

Pellon’s 541 Wash n Gone. You can find it in a package on the stabilizer wall at Walmart. It has a blue label.

I have a question after watching some Kimberbell tutorials.
First, what is the difference between the orange and aqua blue ruler/tiles?
Second, are you just limited to the quilt designs to be downloaded using the blue tiles? Can you use other downloadable quilt designs?
Third, can you use the blue tiles for one’s own quilt pattern?
Orange pop rulers are for fussy cutting a design that should be centered. The Clear Blue Tiles are for marking a project where a design the same size of the tile will stitch. The tiles are all a specific size. You're not limited to only what's on the USB that comes with the tiles, but you are limited to designs that work within the size of each tile. So I imagine KB will continue to release their Background Quilting Designs that they sell on their site. Those designs will work with the Tiles.

Could you go over the weight of the thread again? And is it a cotton thread? Do you use the same weight in the too and bottom?
My top thread is a standard Isacord spool of 40 wt embroidery thread (not cotton). The bobbins I use are 90 wt. You can use 60wt bobbins too. I did an angel in gold metallic thread last year and I used gold Isacord thread in the bobbin.

I tried using the pins, but I couldn't get them to go down between the inner and outer hoops. Did I have my hoops too tight or was I just not holding my mouth right : )
The pins don't go "between" the two hoops. They are placed on top where the seam of the two pieces meet. They lay horizontally. Think of the tip of the pin as a long running stitch. I try to get the tip to come back up outside of the stabilizer...sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. The point is to use the head as a cross member to prevent the stabilizer from pulling in any further. Hope that helps!

What type of thread?

Cool, but why didn't you just duplicate the design instead of importing it again? Love the hint about T-pins, never heard that before - I will have to give it a try.
You're right! I could have duplicated the design. However, when I make these videos, I also try to use methods for users who don't have a fancy machine like mine so everyone can relate. The majority of embroiderers use very basic machines without the ability to duplicate/copy/paste, etc. Just trying to be relatable to everyone. :)
Why do you use such a large hoop for a relatively small design, doesn't it use more interfacing that way?
Isn't that a lot of waste with the stablelizer when you just stitch one design out in the middle?
