    My wife and I and another couple just backpacked the rim to rim hike last week. I love your video because of how honest you both were about backpacking the Grand Canyon (..."backpacking miles are different than regular hiking miles"). I've shared your video with our group because everything you went through, we went through. So excited to start with smiles and laughter and then miles upon miles downhill later, the weight of our backpacks really kicked in and everyone secretly thought, "What did we get ourselves into here?" LOL But in the end, we got back up to the top of the rim (blisters and rolled ankle as well), smiles replaced exhaustion and we rejoiced in the amazing accomplishment. Immediately, we all said we would never do that again but after getting back home and sleeping for one night, we got back on our group text chain and asked, "Let's apply for a permit and do this again but in reverse order!" The Grand Canyon is an unbelievably beautiful place that 99% of people never get to see from within. So happy you both did it! I laughed and cried along with you on your journey into and out of the canyon. Have amazing adventures ahead you two.

      What a wonderful comment! Sorry we missed it when you originally commented. Still to this day, this is the best experience we have ever had! The Blisters and rolled ankle were so worth it! Seems you had an incredible experience as well! Cheers!

I would love to do that one day. The Las time I went backpacking was in the military and that was not fun. Carry over 70 pounds of gear and a rifle and ammo takes the joy out of it. 😂

    Ok wait, I know I’m blowing up your comment section but I just have to say: MATT, I made the SAME mistake camping at the Grand Canyon!!! First time, I brought my old 40 degree sleeping bag and had that EXACT liner thinking it’d help. I froze my ass off and it was the worst night. I never have felt so cold in my life (still to do this day). It was like 20 degrees at night (max). Hahah! You learn fast! I immediately bought a new bag. 🤣🤣🤣

    Hey guys! Great informative video. What an accomplishment. My permit starts at South Kaibab Trailhead - is there parking? Also is it a straight shot to Bright Angel Campground or do we pass through another trail? Thank you!

    • @Meghanandmatt
      @Meghanandmatt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! There’s no parking at south kaibab we took a shuttle there and you can check the times and routes at the ranger station. We went down to Phantom ranch before making our way to BA but I think there’s a trail that you can take to skip phantom ranch and just go straight to BA. Doing so you miss crossing the river which since you’re already down there you should do it since only 1% of Grand Canyon visitors actually make it down to the floor.
      It’s a really tough hike but it’s one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever done! Have a great time 🤙🏼

    In November 2020, me and my friends did the exact same route. We started pass noon and we didn't get to the Indian Garden Campground till pass 9PM. We were hiking in the dark with our little headlamps. My friends wanted to kill me since I was the one that planned the whole trip. We also had snow at that time, and it was very cold at the campground. I opted not to carry a tent to save weight and I slept on top of the picnic table with only a sleeping mat, sleeping bag and a mylar blanket. This coming September, we are going back to the Grand Canyon, and my friends told me not to do the planning...

    Be careful hiking the grand canyon without training, you can get rhabdo, especially from the hike down. I'll be there making a 1 day attempt on that hike next week, been doing leg day at the gym, squats, leg extensions, hamstrings, calves, etc and also hiking mountains in NM, CO, AZ, Texas and California. I work from my phone so I hike while I work. I might even do it in crocs if there's no snow.
