  • This is the beach start chapter of my Beginner to Winner Instructional DVD. Even if you think this is past you then know that any glitches in this will mean slower and less efficient waterstarts.
Brilliant beach starts make Wonderful Waterstarts.
    Move on up :)

I cant understand, i tried this but when i feel power and i go away it lose power after a few meters, i think it is because i turn straight into the wind, how can i prevent this ? (Sory for the bad englisch)

Often people screw into the wind because they start too far back on the board and don't get their head over their feet. Starting too far back not only rakes the rig more, bringing the centre of effort backwards (like a tack) but also sinks the tail which makes the board pivot around it. Try placing your back foot in between, or just behind the front foot straps - you should be able to sail with just the one foot if it's in the right place. Getting your weight forward, and over the board is the other important bit, remember 'nose over toes.' and you should be good. This again stops the tail from sinking and stabilises you before you get the second foot on and begin to blast. Finally, remember that you go where you look, looking upwind is almost always the thing to do - but not in the beach start. You need to get moving first, so look across the wind and where you want to go.
I know it's been a year so you've probably mastered the beach start now, but I thought I'd reply anyway to help others if they need it.
