Hello. I recently took a project renaming the our existing domain controller because the current domain controller cannot be synced with Azure AD. I followed your instructions on a virtual environment with one windows10 work station and server 2022 as the domain controller. Everything went super fine but I am not able to log in to the domain from the windows10 workstation. The workstation still shows the old domain name. Did I miss any steps? If workstations aren't able to log in without changing their profile then renaming the domain controller wouldn't make any sense. Would appreciate any advise and thank you!

Great video but I would suggest reading through MS documentation as well as using a test lab. I performed these steps in a lab that contained Azure AD Connect as well as SQL Servers. The AADC server cut over to the renamed domain without problems however SQL server presents another challenge you will also have multiple UPN's on your existing user accounts. You can go into ADSI edit and correct this but this would have to be scripted when dealing with a large amount of end users. Newly created AD accounts do have the correct UPN added by default.

I’m getting ready to do this in hybrid environment as well. Question is… will users in azure retain access to their email and one drive files from the old domain?

What to do with existing workstations that are part of the domain? Should we readded to renamed domain?

Hi good demonstration. i have a doubt ,after renaming the dc all user profile data remain same? including bookmarks outlook files and folders? and the downtime is only during the renaming process right?

I think it wouldn't rename your controller because your command was incorrect (the second time you ran it) @12:45. You have the 2016 server selected and your command tried to rename it to 2022.

Hello! What about group policy objetcs? I can't update new policy after rename domain. On GPRESULT /H GPReport.html i'm seeing old domain name.

Nice video. So its the gpfix command that changes the domain on the computer(s)? Does this effect folder redirection?

Hi Vitran; Are you thinking or roaming profiles?

What about workstations? Are they going to be automatically part of the renamed domain?
