I just said that yesterday. He's not on list of great singers? Love this band. Nielson look like he belongs? Looks like class clown. Drummer was always like whatever. They're all so different. Nielson coming from opera parents? Yeah, opera parents. Might have something to do with music. Amazing.
November 17, 1982 was the best day of my life. I was 14 and I saw Cheap Trick at the Rochester War Memorial in Rochester, NY. Robin Zander was the first love of my life; I'd spend hours listening to Cheap Trick records over and over and over and over. Thank you Cheap Trick for being the BEST rock 'n roll band EVER!!!!! And Robin, I will forever and always love you!! You'll forever hold a special place in my heart 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Lion roar is a perfect description. My favorite notes of his are actually when he goes into his full on growling roar!(think: "lonely is only a place.." on the studio version)
Man this is old skool. Listen to his voice!!! Epic I surely didn't appreciate how fkukking strong and listen it's just a brick wall! Awesome thanks for posting as I sit here reminicinsg my life's soundtrack.
I saw cheap trick Live a lot in the 80s They always sounded better than their recordings!! This is the best live version of this song I've heard so far. Zander just kills it. Super difficult lead vocals- great job Robin
Powerful song and melody. Thank you so much for what you do. Enjoyed since it came out.1982 was a beautiful time for us all...anyone that recalls anyway. 10th grade..
Amazing voice indeed! And Rick is fantastic with those dimples and that guitar strings of pure fascination. Tom still plucks those 12 strings of love. Was never into looks but the music blew me away. And still does till this day. Still has the stuff that makes me swoon. And I dance around the living room! Yes indeed. Smexy sh#t and that never gets old. Only group that kicks my ass besides MCR. Got it?! Oh yeah.
Some people complaint about this song being slow... the thing is a live performance cannot be the same as the original recorded song. The beauty of this live performance is that his voice still shines. Cheap trick, what an amazing band, can't wait to see them live again. :))
Wow, really impressive performance, even for Cheap Trick! And I mean that they are usually very good "live". This was during their heyday , top of the bell curve of ability, youth , exposure and popularity. I saw them open up for Robert Plant (Now & Zen Tour '88 - Jax, Fl) - just a few months prior to this - they were incredible !
@@AZ28lady I've got a little stack of concert stubs from (prob) every show I've ever been to - and THAT show in Jax was easily in the top5 , if not 3 - I've ever seen! The energy that night was so thick in the Jax Colosseum - just sheer excitement and anticipation! Ha, it also could've seemed that way to me ala the party favors-HA!
I saw them during that Plant tour in Tampa. I've never seen an audience demand an encore for an opening band. The people that knew nothing about them couldn't belive what they were hearing. After the show people were calling the local rock station in Tampa, called 95ynf. The dj Scottie Phillips, put some calls on the air of blown away fans. Phillips then did a caveat about Plant being a rock legend and deserving of some credit. Everyone going into that show thought the band didn't belong on the same stage as Plant. The guys went out on that stage to crush it and to shut a good many people the f up. They did this with extreme prejudice.
@@therealfronzilla That tour was a great pairing, I wonder if Plant had suggested it? I’m surprised the Tampa area would be unaware of how great they were - but just shows the magic of Cheap Trick. 1988 was a great year for music, culture - the times in general. I long for those great times
@@hazor777 this was waaay before Robin lived here. At lot of people just knew the Flame and Don't Be Cruel, I want you to want me and maybe surrender. I can still remember during, On Top Of the World, a guy that worked with my buddy and me, looked over and said, that boy can play. Also, during that song, where they soften it up a bit at the end and then punch it for big finish...jaws open...Hot Love, jaws open, some people didn't even realize they sang the Dream Police, "Wow they sing that?". Also, when Tom and Bun just walked out on stage, Tom with his bass, Bun sitting down and then he just starts pounding Just Got Back, which got everyone to their feet, where they stayed the entire time. No bathroom breaks 🤣, that an opening band gets. High Energy the whole time. Plant comes out and his first song meanders for like 10 to 15 minutes. Would love a copy of that show or one from that tour
RZ one of the most, if not, most underrated rock singer ever. The hard rock Beatles This is the best live version of this song I've heard so far. Zander just kills it.
And this is an impossible song to sing , very difficult, the chorus , LONELY IS ONLY A PLACE , U DONT KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE , U CANT FIGHT IT , is just going up and up in range and by the time he reaches , it's A HOLE IN MY HEART , he is scratching the sky with his voice , just so fucking rock and roll, Great

What a memory I have from the Early 80's....Our school got to go to Hollywood on the school bus and be the audience for a show I cant remember the name....but I do remember Howie Mandel was there, Cheap Trick, and the Greatest American Hero.... it had a downstairs bar where we went downstairs and the American Hero was down there we came back up the stairs ALL I wanted was to see Cheap Trick...OMG... Robin Zander came out before the show dressed in a super Nice White Suite and YES ALL of us girls went right to him and this girl also named Denise was next to me and Robin was talking with back turned and that girl PINCHED HIS BUTT!!!! OMG.... he tuned around and looked at me" I SAID I DIDNT DO IT SHE DID" !!!!! But it was great I was at the front center stage and out of all THE GIRLS Robin leaned down and touched my check while he sang we were being filmed at that time... OMG.... I thought it was GREAT!!! Also Rick was so cool he gave out so many pics I have mine somewhere! Needless to say the whole way back on the Bus I told the all the girls Oh I am never gonna wash my face again!!!! A MEMORY I WILL NEVER FORGET... Howie Mandel did the glove thing on his head so its when he 1st started whatever year that was..I contacted the American Hero to ask if he remembered it but he replied that he did not remember the club name ....I was hoping to try and get footage of that tapping!

Oh God what a great voice Robin has he's like a lion roaring out that song .stops you dead in your tracks when he sings like that. brilliant band.

Awesome tune! Love the underlying chords of the chorus - brilliantly structured, and, the vocals.........
That grit and intensity at the end, what a voice! And screaming in key, awesome. Wonder if K Cobain saw them live at some point and emulated
My fave song from CT, Robin's vocals are top notch as always. Tom wasn't in the line-up when this song came out, so great to see him on this video.

Great singer. Always reminded me of a hot mess.

This sounds like a song Badfinger could have done...and I mean that in the most complementary way.
hmmm, thats actually a great comparison :) i wonder if BF was an inspiration for this song.
Love Badfinger and hear what you mean. I've thought I've heard a little 'Raspberries' in there at times.
Cheap Trick always delivers the goods...!

awsome version.... god, i love that 12 string bass!!!
I love you Matthew Williams ❤️💕
,,,really excellent ...super !!!
27 years later, these guys inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ...ROCK ON!
Imagine for a moment this had come out when the Beatles were still doing cover songs on albums. How would this have sounded with John on lead?
Personally, I don't think the Beatles could have done it justice if John was on lead. Paul, maybe...but not John. Too whiny and nasal. But that's just me.
Paul/Billy Shears would have nailed the falsetto part because of his vocal range
Brilliant
robin plays guitar on morre songs than i thought

@RZRoxTheWorld That MAY be why he has gained a bit of weight in the last few years.

Rick Nielsen looks absolutely coked outta his mind. What a great song. How does he get a voice like that and I can't sing at all? Completely unfair.
zuruck1 He's just crazy, they're one of the few groups out there without a drug problem
