The forwards are the big guys in rugby. And yes, the sport is structured. Your American Football is based on it (rugby has been around for a long time).
The thing the guy was wearing on his head is called a 'Scrum Cap', it only provides protection of the ears and scalp from scrapes, cuts and even stop their ears from getting torn off.. don't search the pics 😨 That set-piece you saw at the start where the players from both teams were huddled into the big mass, that's the Scrum, a way to restart player after an infraction has happened.
We now have the HIA, head injury assessment, used when heads are banged inside a tackle. If you fail it, it's the end of your game. If you tackle someone in the head you're off.
You are allowed to tackle the catcher, so long as both of his feet is on the ground. That tackle where both players were knocked out would result in the tackler getting red carded and disciplinary action (number of match bans). It's the responsibility of the tackler to make sure the tackle is safe.
Saw a recent rugby reaction video where the American reactor says he's surprised people don't get killed playing rugby. I had to put him straight, they do. There's been dozens of deaths over the years. Last one in Rugby Union was Billy Guyton in 2023 in NZ. Last one for Rugby League (not proper Rugby IMO) was Danny Jones in 2015. Every once in a while people get killed playing Rugby. It happens.
It's 15 players per team. Some of the tackles shown weren't legal and would have been penalised, but most were fine. 6:00 - if you call out "mark" after you've caught the ball it's similar to a fair catch. As to those "helmets", they're just thin leather caps designed to protect the ears in scrums. 12:15 The "Viking" was France's Sebastian Chabal, a.k.a. "The Caveman". NFL has made small inroads in other nations, but perhaps you now see why it will never become the global sport that is rugby. Rugby is played in 120 nations, with around 10 million players, and 400 million fans. There are truly huge international tournaments watched across the World by countless millions - yet you Americans have never heard of it! NFL? Yeah, okay - but to be honest it's really slow and safe, and its' stop/start nature seems to be designed simply as a 30 second fill-in between your endless commercials. IMO the USA should have stuck with rugby - about the only thing left from the great game (the origins of NFL) is the "touchdown" - which of course you don't! You guys need to check out "The Isle of Man TT - The Worlds most dangerous motorcycle race"
Helmets are "Scrum caps", are soft & used mainly to protect the ears.
Rugby is a man’s sport. NFL. Dosent even come close

It's a structured brawl by gentlemen, who shake hands in the bar and have a drink together.

In the twenty years I played rugby, loosehead and tighthead prop, I had one mild concussion, didn’t even go off, I played the entire game.
Tighthead, respect dude

Many of these hits/tackles are illegal and would result in a penalty, yellow card or in extreme circumstances a red card.
NFL is a realy slow sport. With resets rugby dosent stop no helmets or pads rugby is tougher and harder if you don’t think so play it
CTE is still higher in american football than rugby union & rugby league, although the concussion rate is a bit higher because of no helmets & pads
The guy you said looks like a Viking is Sabastien Chabal.. his nickname is "The Caveman".
Try "Jonah Lomu Lord Of The Wings"
Not allowed to tackle off the ball, the player has to catch it, fair game if balls passed while being tackled.

They're not helmets! they're what's known as skull caps! worn by players in the scrum to stop their ears being ripped off
My friends, for the next reaction please react to the song "HARIMAU MALAYA" from MARIO NEXXES, very exciting!👍
