So, Canadian Tire is advertising a huge sale. i worked in retail marketing for many years and there are only TWO reasons a store like Canadian Tire advertises a sale. Products on sale are a lost leader, designed to get people into the store to make other purchases OR they're getting rid of merchandise that isn't moving. p.s. Did you know that over 50% of people who go into Canadian Tire to buy specific items purchase other "stuff" that they see.

Its all about healthy competition! Australia is insane for the amount of sales and weekly specials we see here. The weekly specials are often to the point where our two big supermarkets undercut themselves in the hope people will do their full shop there! Then there's our camping stores who can create crazy slogans in the hope of gaining an extra sale or attracting customers from the competition. In the end, that's what its all about. Attracting customers from the other side, or from other store chains.
Note, Australia has two supermarkets that hold just over 80 percent of the food/grocery store market. So they pitch against each other on a weekly basis. Aldi had to change tactics with their weekly specials by splitting them to twice weekly(they stole 10 percent of the business). The independent supermarkets hold roughly 10 percent of the market between them and they can't really compete at the same level.
Australia doesn't have anything that reassembles Canadian Tire, Walmart or even The Northern Store. Its all spread across multiple specialised retailers, including Automotive(Supercheap Auto and Repco are the biggest, with two, maybe three smaller chains).
Its interesting to see such a huge variety and range of products under one roof/in the same store.

Wallmart just dosn't cut it anymore. The sun is yellow, the sky is blue and there are no clouds.
