I’m new to using a wheelchair. I can use my walker from the bedroom to the loo and kitchen to living room but going from the bedroom to the other end of the house I need my wheelchair. My husbands best friend built me two ramps from wood. Out of our bedroom into the yard and I travel to the other end and use a ramp he made me there to get back in. We have a split level home. 3 steps in hallway on better days I can use my walker with hubbies help but I did giggle at your parking lot. I have three walkers. A over sized one in the bathroom. My main one I take everywhere plus another just in case. We keep my generic cheap wheelchair in the boot of the car at all times and I use my electric chair around the house going from top to bottom. Plus bathroom aids. It’s like I need my own parking lot for all this extra stuff. I would like to say thank you to you. You have taught me so much and best of all that even though I have some ability in my legs using my wheelchairs saves spoons and a better quality of life.
Oh the joys of DIY and designing things for someone with a disability! I'm also only 5' tall, so most kitchens and wardrobes I have to use a step ladder anyway or reachers, so I have a bit of a feel for what it must be like to be in a wheelchair and unable to reach anything.
I just acquired a wheelchair, I'm going to be a part time user. Unfortunately it won't work in my apartment, it won't fit in any of the doorways. So I plan to use it outside the house and store it in the garage. I have to depend on my rollator inside the house. But I want to say mad respect for all that maneuver a manual wheelchair, that is some hard work! I can also see why carpet is a hindrance too :/.
I am a paralyzed veteran who also has a loving and great mate. I know how much you love the improvements that you now have. Love your site but have not gotten notifications lately....love to you all..
Congratulations! on the new changes. My Brother had built me a ramp, but it was was a lot wider and it had rallies, ... And my Other sibling and brother - in - law built me a simpler kind of .. with rallies . .. cause I have. Fear of falling- Only! Cause,it's happened before. . But I do love❤️ the ramp your husband made 👩🦽🇺🇸
Hello I got a my kitchen changed from cupboards to drawers as I have a problem getting into the back of cupboards, you might want to have a think about it. Take care and stay safe xx

Love the plans for the kitchen and utility room. It will be great. I also never use a dining table (well, almost never). I am just looking to buy a new house soon. Having a dining table will not be high on my list of priorities. Good luck with the refurb.

Good Luck with all the improvements! My O.T. has been telling me about rise/lower roll-under accessible sink that is kind on all the family and my PA carer. Off to the ILC tomorrow for some demos. Suspect you'll get through your renovations quicker than me though, Shaun your are such a star!
@@Wheelsnoheels No, kidding! At the ILC everything looked like it would just click together, came back to my kitchen to see pipes and wiring all in the least convenient places. Are you looking at whether to raise your washer & dryer on plinths? I'm wondering about doing that and the impact on noise level.
Ive drawn up quite extensive plans to re-model our house to help my wife with mobility issues owing to the fact that she doesnt want to move from the area and there are few properties in the area that would be suitable and even fewer (none) that we could afford. Cue the builders and months of upheaval.
Make sure the new floors will be good quality and installed correctly. My apartment (rental) has similar flooring to the ones you want, but it's slowly chipping away, and the "planks" are sliding around leaving annoying gaps all over the place.
Yes I was thinking this too! We had the vinyl floors made to look like wood and my rolling office chair started to warp the pieces and chip the corners off! I think a better quality material and, in our case, a more experience installer would do the trick
I'm excited to see how it turns out! We wanted one of those slide away door ovens but that plus the induction hob (that mum decided we needed to keep me safe and its amazing) needed a higher electric supply than we've got coming into the house in total!
The raised platform that macbooks on where did you get it from, seen many on amazone n got one and it was complete trash/garbage but I like the style as it seems best suited for working from a chair or in bed.
