They play an eclectic mix of metal/prog-rock/blues/punk/pop/jazz/funk etc...but always with that Hard Rock base!!! Their style varies greatly from song to song, yet always recognizably _Band Maid._

Band Maid is a kind of musical catalyst for rock (and blues, and jazz, and punk ...) of the last 50 years ... They are in the process of creating their own genre: the Band Maid genre ...
I strongly suggest Real Existence live!

Band-Maid is good and all but I don't think they are creating any genre here, they are taking a lot of previous genres and creatively making good songs out of that, that doesn't mean they are creating their own genre.

@@jonasw3945 I think all can say is that Band-Maid can't be neatly pigeonholed into a genre. Hard rock is probably closest, but it's a genre that's almost dead these days, due to harder bands typically going to metal now, and Band-Maid aren't a metal band.

That is the truth. Band Maid seems to have no inking of any kind of rule book. For them putting a very pop chorus with an extremely heavy bridge with a Zeppelin verse and touches of prog is the most natural thing in the world (Moritorium). I have never known a band where every member is constantly taking my attention from the other and it doesn't seem distracting or annoying.

@@philproffitt8363 I never had much money to spend on records, so after ska during the '80s I was just buying heavy metal. Killing Joke were on my radar but I didn't hear them on the radio so it was low priority. Then after Manchester and grunge when there was the big flowering of distorted guitar and Indie that what would earlier have been called punk in the 1990s, I was trying to follow all the post grunge and hardcore punk and punk metal that was happening with Skunk Anansie and Hundred Reasons and others that was combining elements of hardcore punk and metal on the way to metalcore. So when I got around to chasing up Killing Joke in the 2000s I had to change my whole picture of the history, because they started all this stuff way back in 1980. Their recent stuff is great too, including the weirdly prophetic "I Am The Virus".

Look at the mastery of their instruments. This was supposed to be a filler to allow their singer Saiki to take a break. So much for filler. Prior to hearing this, I thought Band-Maid was a cool rock band with some nice and catchy choruses. After hearing this, my respect for each and every member multiplied like crazy, including the missing singer Saiki!! (I can only explain that by her being missing here, you realize how much Saiki contributes to the band, yet the band can actual hold their own without her. Not sure if that makes sense).

    • @lurkmerchant

Band-Maid instrumentals are great, Miku songs are great, but I'll probably get bored eventually if that was all they did.
I know there are amazing voices out there and most of them oversing, but with the kind of lyrics Miku writes, she's had to put so many words in her singing while keeping the strength and depth in her voice at the same time. Those rap singing she does, is really hard.
Most rap singers are not even singing, they are just rapping words, but Saiki, I don't know how she does it. No Saiki, no Band-Maid.

Hey if you want to hear some Japanese punk/pop you should listen to Shonen Knife (3 pc girl band)they've been going for 40 years and still going strong. They're big Ramones fans. THIS IS A WORLD CLASS BAND. Their definitely no gimmick .

Shonen Knife are great, I agree. Musically influenced by Ramones, but lyrically another thing entirely 😂

Mincho says "JAWS The Revenge" is her fave film cos Michael Caine says "You were only s'posed to blow it's bloody jaws off". I didn't have the heart to tell her it's the greatest line in film history that never was. I'm good like that.🙂

Is that the Jaws film with the classic line from Caine when everything's hanging precariously in the balance at the climax, "We're going to need a bigger bus"?

I just watched your Band-Maid - Domination video and your mentioned your daughter likes anime and stuff. I think she (and you as well) would like music from the TH-camr Hoshimachi Suisei. She's a Virtual TH-camr (a regular TH-camr who uses an anime avatar; Vtuber for short). Some of her songs are "GHOST", "Stellar Stellar" (has English captions), "Starry Jet", and "Kakero"

One reactor was reminded of Rage against the machine. Can it be that band you are thinking of when you say 2000s band?
I love Band-Maid and Onw of their best songs is Moratorium. However, they have almost only good songs. You can pick and choose whatever you are suggested. They will be good songs.

My Friend, you are right. Here the lead guitar (Kanami) is more prominent but, maybe, in the next song is the spectacular bass (Misa) who is in command or Akane (drums) show us that she is the boss or Saiki crush you or Miku flashes with unexpected details. Also, we, the fans are waiting for the ecclosion of Miku (rityhm guitar and lyrics) as she was not capable to do anything more than sing poppier than needed, and we all know that she is working really hard to reach the level of her colleagues in the band. The band that she created from zero...zero. For your information, in Paris she did it her first solo, short, and it was a catharsis, a shock, between the audience. Kanami is teaching her and she said in an interview that Miku does things that she (Kanami) cannot do in pace and timing. Kanami is very excited with her. Will see but we are excited too

Sir, there is no correlation to other bands. That's why you are struggling to do it. This is purely Band Maid. It is what other bands wish they had sounded like. 😉🎸🥁🎸🎤🎸

Baby Metal are NOTORIOUS for blocking reaction videos. Good luck with that, you're gonna need it.
Check out Rolling Quartz. They are a 5 girl Korean rock band. They are fairly new but really good.

May I suggest Eluveitie "Deathwalker", "Isara", "Breath and "Artio" and maybe "Epona" and "A rose for Epona", there a mix of styles some that I don't think you've reacted too before iin "Isara and "Artio", they do keep popping up on reaction channels though so it might be beating the dead donkey content wise

Dude, Band-Maid is nothing like Story of the Year.
Three Japanese bands with some similarity could be:

    2. Crystal Lake th-cam.com/video/xLI-MoS6vfM/w-d-xo.html &

    You will not be disappointed.

One thing, do NOT think you can pigeonhole Band Maid. Kanami's guitar influence is Santana and you don't hear any of that. I recommend "the non-fiction days". Also, Baby Metal is just a gimmick.

auugh no offense, but you really killed the flow of the song, my man. There's a difference between pausing during a song to mention relevant stuff, and pausing to go off on tangents, lol. Again, no insult meant, but I had to speak my mind, hee hee.

Relax and just enjoy, you will drive yourself crazy trying to put BM in a box. Every song is great and different. Kanami changes tone constantly, sometimes several times in one song. The most consistent instrument tone is Misa's bass. Miko's rhythm is fairly consistent as well
