Couple of things to know about the real Lake Chelan...
1-Downlake near zero mosquitos... more as you get farther up the lake. This is not a minor deal. I HATE mosquitos.
2-The lake is quite pristine and shockingly clear and clean. The water usually cold in the spring but warms by late June (although sometimes it is warm early in the year). I swim often in early November and HATE cold weather.
3-Lots of tourists in June through Labor Day. September and October are usually incredible when most of the kids are back to school. The weather is still warm but cooler evenings & low winds. Great for the older gentry.
4-The southern end of the lake is in desert country... the northern end is another world... think Bavaria (much like the Konigsee, yes I've been there) or Switzerland. Both uplake & downlake are amazing but totally different.
5-REALLY cold water the more uplake you go. Do find a way to spend a day or 2 slowly exploring both shorelines all the way to the Stehekin River. Rent a houseboat and go slow. If the wind is up or the weather looks bad don't go uplake, don't test mother nature... the lake can be very angry at times. It should be a relaxing water trip or skip it... just drive up to 25 mile Creek instead. Stop off at Field's Point and do a walkabout along the lake.
6-On the Southshore you MUST gas up first and take your food... no amenities provided after Labor Day and very sparse even in the busy months. The last food is the Alpenhorn Drive In at the State Park. Good food, expensive and can be very busy. Still it's worth it. Eat out back down on their area along First Creek. Occasionally there be mosquitoes. Quiet, shady, a bit of what life was like in 1955.
7-North Shore leads to Manson. Small town dead end road. Very peaceful and not as busy as downtown Chelan. Very beautiful orchard country. Do slowly drive in the back orchard country. MUST take your camera. Three small lakes are of interest. Fine for fishing but not near as nice as the big lake for swimming. Several good restaurants in Manson and many wineries.
8-Breakfast... Apple Cup in Chelan, great standard fare with good prices, Blueberry Hills Farm in Manson (VERY busy on weekend mornings... but worth it).
Lunch... Tons of choices but the Riverwalk Inn in downtown Chelan is very good with fair prices.
Dinner... No Chinese restaurant available. Drat!
Drive Ins... Chelan has only 1 Drive-In of note, the Lakeview. Beautiful views eating outside. Food is like a mom & pops drive inn. VERY busy in the summer. No McDonalds, no Burger King, no KFC and the town does not want them there.
9-MOST IMPORTANTLY... ALWAYS fill your car/boat with gas before heading uplake. By boat... NEVER fail to have a full tank BEFORE going uplake and NEVER try to brave rough waters. The winds can be very fierce and lake navigation can be treacherous with a very unforgiving shoreline, no cell service farther uplake and no help if you need it. Go to Windalert.com to see what the wind holds for you. The wind is NOT a minor issue. ALWAYS check first. Depending on the time of day there is VERY EXPENSIVE gas at Stehekin. Only way to get your car uplake is by barge. Driving around uplake is heaven on earth if you can find a way to do it. Start early in the day, go slow, do go to Rainbow Falls but avoid the time when the tourists arrive off the Lady of the Lake. A hot afternoon around 3PM is ideal. MUST bring your own grub. Hug the south shore going uplake if it is early in the day. You'll have more sun on the northshore on your return in the afternoon. The south shore gets shady early.
10-Stehekin has limited gas, limited food and stunning views. Do not expect much service after the Lady of the Lake departs back to Chelan. Fail to make reservations at your peril. The Stehekin Bakery is to die for. Eat outside and the mosquitoes (certain times of the year) can be voracious. DO take an extra prop and know how to switch out if you go uplake in April, May or June. The lake is rising then and the drift can be very thick in places. ALWAYS keep a sharp lookout for drift at all times. The shoreline is often very steep and not many safe places to pull in.
11-I've taken the Lady cruise only when I had to. Slow, loud, sometimes very crowded and they do not get close to shore. Think scenic and interesting most all the way up. The return trip is over long and boring. Catch the boat at Fields Point and skip the departure/return at the Lakeside Lady Dock. Better yet, rent a houseboat.
12-Avoid weekends if you can. Again, September and early October are usually ideal.
13-Fire. The lake is very long and some areas can be smokey in fire season while other areas are not affected. When the valley is smoke filled it is usually empty of most tourists, the smell is notable & the feeling is oppressive. Don't believe what you hear on the news. Look for the Campbell's Resort Webcam (campbellsresort.com/webcam/) for downlake conditions and the Stehekin Webcams (lakechelancams.com/stehekin-cams/) for uplake conditions. It's a difference of 50 miles, so conditions may vary. During the terrible massive Tyee Fire ('94) I stayed up at Stehekin. Clear and clean with NO people. One of the best times ever uplake... but eventually the fire hit there too. On the lower lake visibility was near zero. Very scary on the lake with drift everywhere. Avoid helicopters dipping water by staying close to shore.
14-Mother nature decides what you get... don't force it. Take it slow. Yes... you can drink right out of the lake. Remember to use WindAlert before boating, even when things look perfectly safe. The winds can be a sudden surprising beast. Be prepared.

Edit: You mixed the south shore and the north shore. North is Manson, South is Fields point and Alpenhorn.

That was such an uninformed visit to a place that's supposed to have so many geological wonders. You go to a place like that and just eat cheese somewhere? 🧀
