Especially beyond preliminaries, I enjoyed this panel discussion immensely. Thank you for posting this important discussion, I appreciate the opportunity to watch.
I think those criticizing the research these men do must as a preliminary both state their area of research and a concise explanation of why it's more important.
Elbow, Hillocks, and Bazerman have done a great service to the field of composition, teachers of writing, and their students. Chuck's comments on writer's making local judgment (around 21:00 minutes) point to the difficulties involved in writing research.
@Island.....what do you know about comp research or the teaching of writing? These are 3 of our best scholars, and their work is worthy of great respect. Go be an ignorant troll somewhere else.
I enjoyed and learned a lot from each person's spiel. I found the intellectual debates at the end a bit awkward to watch, but it's all good. I think it would have been fun to force them all to dance to Stayin Alive by The Bee Gees at the end. Whoever dances the best wins.
My mind weed out evrything. This makes it hard to free write. But if you were to ask me to write a 5 page 3 topic structured essay, I would write the best essay you have ever seen. So what's going on here with me? I'm open to feedback from anybody. but please be curteous.
***** That's because you were taught what is called the five paragraph essay in high school (or its equivalent if you are from another country), and you are stuck in that form. It is a useful structure to teach because it does teach organization, but it can be hard for many students to get beyond that. Hope this helps.
usually a big fan of UCTV, but this one. . .wtf? the title doesn't relate to the content (at least 17 mins into the video). I was expecting the video to address the role of jargon in research--the increase in jargon in research and the different tones historically found in research. none of this shit seems to be addressed; yet, i KNOW theres research out there on it.

I once read a NYTimes articles explaining this.

44:58 Encontrado que las formas tradicionales de enseñar en su mayoría NO funcionan. no enseñar gramática. !!!!
@arnthorla Thank you so much 'arnthorla'. You have indeed saved me so much time. A good intention for a discussion, utterly wasted.

If you knew these researchers, you'd immediately know the content, which was what research has revealed on how to teach writing.
@@oodlebay cool, but that doesn't prevent this person from fixing the title : )
@kaligrs Is this comment a joke?
The only part of writing that I hate is the communication part.
Personally i aint learnt nothing. Apart from learning people are really messed up as a species
The host is intolerably poor at speaking. He's rushing and totally without rhythm!
