I love this piece. Gosh, here is more history in that one piece then in most pieces of furniture. Cheaply made. But, the care that went into it really shows. The tin holder with a drawer. Did I see a design punched into that tin as well? Really tells about the person that made a living with that item. People were so creative back then. Lovely job. But, replacing the leather strap would have been better. It would have been slung over the shoulder. A chain can not.
This looks great. You have managed to turn what was junk into something rather lovely. This will make shoe cleaning an enjoyable experience. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.

That was so much fun to watch. You restored it beautifully. I don’t know why, but I’ve always like shoe-shine boxes or chests. I had one-not custom-made like yours-that my family got during the 1950s, and we used it all the time. Sadly, it was lost when my home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

@@Tim-57 criticism is a valuable commodity, without it, very few look inwardly to see their own flaws and work to improve them, if all one receives is constant praise then they will never achieve a level better than that of an amateur those arches are an eyesore and he should color match them to the rest of the piece

Looks great! I do have a question. Last time I restored a coffee grinder I had a slight problem putting nails in straight. How do you keep a nail straight when you do jobs like this?
Thank you very much :) I shortened the nails by cutting off the heads and dipped each nail in wax. Thus, even though the wood was hard, the nails entered the wood without any problems. Of course, there will always be bent nails :)

You can also drill a pin hole that will guide the nail
