  • In Wing Chun, "yiu ma" (also spelled "yee ma") refers to the concept of using the legs and hips to generate power and stability in the lower body. It is an important aspect of Wing Chun training, as it allows practitioners to deliver powerful strikes and maintain their balance and control in close-range combat situations.
To develop yiu ma, Wing Chun practitioners may practice a variety of exercises and drills, including footwork patterns, kicks, and stance training. These exercises are designed to develop strength, stability, and control in the lower body, as well as to improve coordination and balance.
In addition to physical training, yiu ma also involves mental and tactical considerations. This includes understanding how to use the legs and hips to generate power and stability, as well as how to use footwork and body positioning to control distance and angles in combat.
Overall, the concept of yiu ma is an important part of Wing Chun training, as it helps practitioners develop the physical and mental skills necessary to generate power, maintain control, and adapt to any situation in combat.

Since training Wing Chun, I've noticed that literally everything seems to be an attack, even the blocks. That's one of the things I like about it.

You need a partner to work with your videos...if you are alone the videos are not fun... Ok you love wing chun but only speaking yourself is not so catcy and you can do better videos like your old wing chun ones!!! Find some partners

Wing Chun + BJJ = / I like this video. I focus on the hips a lot more myself. Every decent strike comes from your feet to your core and it's foundation.

I always thought of Wing Chun as grappling with punching and kicking in it since I got more advance.

Love it!! Using the mental visualization (cables, triangles, etc) is so important in understanding WC physiology. I hope you will expand on this in future videos, as this video reminded me of these important concepts...in fact, after watching this, I immediately stood in front of the mirror and 'reminded' my body of these structural techniques. Great video...very helpful!
