I spent the last month in bed, either in pain or recovering from surgery. Among other things, I read every DC Finest volume that's come out (except Supergirl since that just came out and I will wait on Zero Hour to get the second volume) Aside from a few stories in the Batman volume, all of this material was brand new to me and was mostly a blast to read. Green Arrow, Wonder Woman and Justice League were my favorites (the latter was sufficiently goofy and whimsical that it was what I needed while being hospitalized and doped up- I might hate it under normal circumstances 😅) I hope this line runs in perpetuity and DC doesnt abandon it after a year or two as they like to do (I'm shocked Marvel didn't abandon the epic line years ago tbh and now we have several classic series nearing completion which is exciting)
That Green Arrow looks appealing, sweet art there! I'm more interested in post crisis era; it's a little hard to believe I'll be much emotionally invested in 50's and 60's stories, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong - I'm slowly reading Marvel's silver age. 30's and early 40's Batman looks cool, before it gets watered down in camp, but it still might remain a curiosity to me.
I bought both LEGION OF SUPERHEROES and GREEN ARROW - of course the Legion is a bit silly and dated, but has a lot of Dave Cochran art and is really fun. The Mike Grell centered GREEN ARROW is top tier
Love your reading taste! I have both Supergirl Omnibii, so I passed on the softcover. Just read my first DC Finest, Batman Year One & Two. Love the format and the choices so far. Got the Green Arrow yesterday and looking forward to the Plastic Man and other future volumes.
Man I would love it if we got some of the early 80s stuff- the Gene Colab and Don Newton, Doug Moench and Gerry Conway stuff. I've read so little of it... I'm assuming you were thinking early Bronze Age but I'm down for any of it. It feels like the Bronze Age is a mostly forgotten era for DC in general with a few exceptions that get reprinted over and over.
I am really looking forward to the 'DC Finest: Superman Family: The Giant Turtle Man' for the reprinted issues of "Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane" and "Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen."
Hi Michael, like you I've always wanted to read the golden age Aquaman stories myself. The only story I remember reading is his origin in Secret Origins #7 published in 1974 I believe. It'd be fun to read those stories.
My only exposure to Earth 2 Aquaman was the whopping three appearances he made in the All-Star Squadron series from the 80's. He didn't see any action in those issues. DC was supposed to re-introduce him with the recent Geoff John's JSA series but nothing ever came of it.
Something to know about Green Arrow the Longbow Hunter…. Writer/artist Mike Grell said the “violent” episode with Black Canary was NOT sexual violence as many have long believed.
I'll be picking up a copy of Aquaman when I go to the comic shop, it looks fun, Ramona Fradon art is great. Three Showcase volumes you say? super, more Aquaman please.
Love Supergirl as well, got the omni (both) though so probably won't be getting that one. Same with the Flash and Green Lantern ones. Looking forward to the bronze age Supergirl DC Finests (such as the Legion one), hope that will be out soon enough
I am so far behind on collecting Marvels epic collections that its really nice to get to start these DC Finest when they first start coming out. I hope the serise is really successful.
I most recently got the Supergirl one because I love Silver Age Superman stuff, but the Aquaman book looks good and I'd like to get it before too long.
I am a big fan of Grell's Green Arrow and most of Grell's work in general. There was a lot of talk of making comic books "adult" and "realistic" in the 80s and often this was bullshit. It was true however of Grell's Green Arrow. (Well, there are a few parts that may not be considered realistic.) I also have the Golden Age Green Arrow omnibus. Yeah, he was sorta of a Batman knock off, but a lot of the stories were fun and his original artist George Papp was one of the better ones of the time.
Looks like the Supergirl Finest has some Legion stories in it. That's one of my fav periods for both Supergirl and the Legion. Fun times, lots of Edmond Hamilton stories if I remember right.
Those early Supergirl stories were unusual for their time in that they had a continuing story that went on for months. Back then we rarely saw a dc story continue into the next issue. Supergirl sure had unusual boyfriends didn't she - a boy who was half fish, an alien with green skin and a guy who was a horse most of the time! Notice too, how often Supergirl, Linda Lee and her arch enemy all hold their hands in a strange way with thumb and finger held apart as if trying to describe something!
Aquaman, the great outsourcer. Dear oh dear. Is there a helpdesk number on the back? 🐟🐠 When are those pillocks at DC gonna release Sgt Rock? 🪨 They have should have done a Sgt Rock / Supergirl collab. 🤭

Morning Michael. I've had a grin on my face since DC began putting these out. Super entertaining & the price is right.

Just like most people I hope that a future DC finest collection is Bronze Age Batman

Finally, some Streaky the supercat action! 😊

That tie good sir, is EPIC!
I am so far behind on collecting Marvels epic collections that its really nice to get to start these DC Finest when they first start coming out. I hope the serise is really successful.
I love seeing all of the omnibuses.
Miss Arrowette was cool.
She had, amongst other girlie weapons,
LIPSTICK arrows.
Ohh, so she can look fabulous and make the bad guys think they're bleeding!
I remember buying those Green Arrow comics each month at the aptly named Bob's Comics on the Ball State commons. It was a golden time to be a GA fan.
I’m currently reading the green arrow one. It’s awesome
Cool stuff! Love the tie!
Would like to get a DC Finest of Batman and the Outsiders. Got Batman Year One and Two for Xmas, just preordered Teen Titans.
I most recently got the Supergirl one because I love Silver Age Superman stuff, but the Aquaman book looks good and I'd like to get it before too long.

Those Silver Age Aquaman by Nick Cardy are amazing. Just try not to Tear over Aqualad.😢
Looks like the Supergirl Finest has some Legion stories in it. That's one of my fav periods for both Supergirl and the Legion. Fun times, lots of Edmond Hamilton stories if I remember right.

Correct… only Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Green Arrow remained regular features during the 1950s.
Hello Michael Hello. Call me Ishmael. I hope DC COMICS will focus on the Bronze Age
Prior to the GL/GA series in the early 1970s, Green Arrow seemed to Aquaman. Just a flat character without a lot of substance.
So far, I've only gotten DC Finest Batman and Wonder Woman
Can you do Absolute Batman soon?
@@chriskampf7744 That would mean I would have to read more Absolute Batman. I would rather be eaten by piranhas.
Did Steve Donoghue quit Booktube? I guess we're no longer getting Epic Comic Wednesday with the two of you?
@@toryreads I honestly don’t know when, or if, Steve will return.
Aquaman, the great outsourcer. Dear oh dear. Is there a helpdesk number on the back? 🐟🐠 When are those pillocks at DC gonna release Sgt Rock? 🪨 They have should have done a Sgt Rock / Supergirl collab. 🤭
@@DDB168 I really do hope they reprint Sgt. Rock before I die of old age.
