🌷 how to mix skin tones with gouache / painting process

happy 2021 everyone 🤍 I hope you had a wonderful holiday. I received several questions on how I mix anime skin tones for my studio ghibli gouache paintings. today I'm gonna show you a quick snippet of my paint mixing process for skin tones and shades of nudes using gouache. I'm not the best at explaining, neither is this the 'correct' way to mix colours because I mostly go with the flow :) then again, there is no right or wrong way to paint. either way, I hope this video helps you start with mixing skin colours.

Cheers to you for not making the mistake of buying a bunch of expensive supplies before even getting started! That’s what I did when I started and I ended up wasting so much money because my skill frankly wasn’t there and supplies make such a minor difference compared to skill level.

Don’t buy expensive stuff until ur ready! Star little by little! I started with colored pencils from Walmart and now I’m using professional paints and sometimes draw my family! It’s like being a beginner in singing, don’t go out of your way to buy a $170 microphone set because it will be useless since your not ready! Always start little!

Don't be scared, you'll be fine! Draw whatever you want and whatever makes you happy. Also, it's ok to have breaks or art block... Just don't force yourself :))

I have the 24 set of the himi gouache and theres a lovely peach colour already in the pallete i use with white as a base then adjust accordingly. Its a nice start to have :)

I like this. I understand why it’s difficult to explain since it really depends on the artist how to get the color they want through various trials and errors.

I just realized that I love art with my whole soul, and I mis it very much. Maybe try drawing simple things. I always wanted to draw humans, but my skill level isn't there yet. So I usually feel pretty frustrated. But now I'm going back to drawing the basics. Any practice is better than none.

I don't know if you're still stuck, but this is what helps me - sit down and try to make the worst art possible. Like take your favorite medium and paint the worst carrot possible. Laugh at how bad it is. Try to make it even worse. If you make something ugly, you've succeeded. If you make something you like, well then you failed but you've still succeeded. Keep repeating this as many times as you want
