- In July 1985, MI6 initiated a daring operation to help their double agent, Oleg Gordievsky escape from the Soviet Union. Gordievsky, despite being under the watchful eye of the KGB, sent a secret signal to MI6 - a bold move that would trigger his exfiltration. Per the plan, on a specific evening at 7:30pm, Gordievsky stood with a Safeway bag in hand on a specific, busy Moscow street. An MI6 agent strolled past while munching on a Mars bar and carrying a Harrods bag. The agent met Gordievsky's gaze. The exchange of signals triggered MI6 to execute the escape plan that had been designed by MI6 agent Valerie Pettit. The next action from MI6 would be to exfiltrate him from the USSR. On July 19, 1985 Gordievsky left his apartment for his regular run through the city. It would be the last time he set foot in his home.

He was a traitor to his country , not even an honest man .
Thanks for watching. It was a fascinating story - I'd find it to be incredibly difficult to be a double agent.
He was constantly scrutinized and lived in fear, at the hands of his own home country. His country was a traitor to him and he knew he deserved better.
