One thing i didn't see anyone mention is that BlazBlue literally saved ArcSys financially when it came out. Had it not been the success it was, ArcSys would probably have closed its doors and the Guilty Gear revival would have never happened.
Unfortunate to see one of the last huzzah of 2d sprite fighting games go.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mori at the ASW office 10 years ago, and gifted him a signed Queen album (1978’s Jazz). He was visibly overjoyed and we spent 5 hours just playing games and hanging out, we got some merch signed and just had the best afternoon. I hope he goes on to follow his passions, wherever they lead. An incredible talent and a real gent.

My favorite thing about Blazblue is the insane amount of detail they put into every animation. Stuff like Rachel's familiars taking the hits for her and Minerva (Celica's robot) doing the fighting while carrying Celica around, Platinum's goofy attacks such as her jab being a randomized rock, paper, scissors hand gesture as well as literally all of Arakune's animations and those were just some of them the list goes on. It all had so much personality and charm to it, there truly will never be anything like it again. RIP Blazblue you were one of a kind! 🥺

    • @renatoramos8834
      @renatoramos8834 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

That's because the animation was done with 3d models and then the sprites were drawn over the key frames. That made the whole thing very fluid.

Very sad to hear this. I’m a late-bloomer to fighting games (started following the FGC around 2011-ish), but Blazblue (especially CF) is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Sure, there’s crazy/broken stuff/characters in the game, but it’s such a beautiful paradox of simplicity (4-button fighter) and extremely deep and interesting (characters, mechanics, etc.). Arigato, Mori-san. Thank you so, so much for what you and your team worked so hard to give us. Hope to see you again soon. ❤️

My favorite BlazBlue was still Calamity Trigger, playing on both Xbox Live and PSN in like 2009-2010. Had a Japanese friend I practiced against every single day all night after work, my Bang vs his Rachel. I played online so much that I pretty much ended up playing against every name I saw near the top of the leaderboard, it was amazing. Even played against you once and you felt out my game plan for one round and let me take it and then perfected me like 5 times in a row. I had thought I was hot shit before that cause I beat the #1 ranked Nu, but the rankings were mostly whoever played the most matches lol. Think you used to have it up on here, but it's gone now. I laughed about it when I found it and showed it to all my friends.

Blazblue will always be the GOAT. Blazblue was my first introduction into actual fighting games. It was literally the first real fighter I sat down and learned. It taught me all the fundamentals I use today. It taught me everything I needed to know about fighters. It was my introduction into the FGC and I’ve had some of the best moments gaming while playing this franchise. I made some timeless friends and we’d be up all night during summer just playing BB until the sun rose up laughing and enjoying our sets. Back in the earlier years I imported the Japanese version of CP just because I couldn’t wait for the US version to come out. I have never had such a positive and unforgettable experience playing the BB games over the years. As much as I love Guilty and other games I think Blazblue feels just way better. The controls, the characters, the music… it was all there. I’ll always hold this game in high regards. Thank you Mori for all the years of enjoyment and making me a fighting game fan.

BBCP when it first released was my favorite Blazblue as it basically revolutionized the whole game's mechanical structure. When Overdrive was implemented to replace Gold Bursts, I thought the idea was just a copy of "X-Factor" from MvC3 but after actually having to play it, Overdrive has got to be the best comeback mechanic in any fighting game I have played. Overdrive isn't a boring old HP regen and insane damage boost, it basically made characters become, to my opinion, mini Unlimited versions of themselves and it added more depth to the game. Blazblue has a special place in my heart and I will never forget it.

The Characters, Gameplay, and Story were, and still are, amazing. Blazblue's Death is so sad, but not completely unexpected. I mean in hindsight. Look. Every single project made post-Chronophantasm was mixed in reception and diminishin returns...even Central Fiction, a great game, but initially had the lower returns compared to Chronophantasm cause the Arcade Decline and I guess Series Fatigue for some people.
I mean look. Xblaze, a Visual Novel set in the Blazblue Universe, sold in 2010s, the era when the genre was declining, every post-Phase Shift Blazblue Novels had less popularity and interest by the fans then Phase Shift, the Bad Anime Adaptation (then again, what fighting game ever has a good adaptation?), I don't think we have to explain what happened to BBTag, and Dark Wars or BBDW was the nail in the coffin.
Honestly, it makes sense why they let him go after all of this. Especially since in a way, Blazblue was made in the first place because ArcSys had complicated rights situation with Guilty Gear. And now Guilty Gear is back and stronger then ever, while the sister series which used to peak harder then GG, led to a slow decline due to multiple decisions that just didn't work out. I want to imagine a world where Mori didn't get so greedy and make BBDW, the nail to the coffin of the series, and instead just focused on the BBTag, where instead of a complete end, there still being some hope for his return with mainline series. Or the possibility where he chose to go with his initial decision of making BBCP and CF a single game, instead of 2 and ending the series there, on a high note for the series in terms of attention and sales...

Something interesting about this is that the gacha was originally meant to be released in like 2018~(I think?), the game got delayed for more than 2 years. I really wonder what happened behind the scenes, I remember finding out that there was a Blazblue gacha only to hear that the thing was dead in the water like 2 weeks later.
Makes me wonder why Mori went for a gacha instead of a more traditional RPG or something, even if the VN thing looked completely unappealing to me.
Can't hate on the guy too hard though, even if I was one of those shitty contrarians that would overhype GG all day, I can't deny that early Blazblue was one of the biggest games in my life around that time, so many memories.

There were a lot of characters that were shown or alluded to in the manga and gacha that seemed like they would have had really interesting playstyles in a new BB fighting game. I wanted to see the necromancy summon bullshit from Fuzzy, Tsubakimen, Alpha, Nu's redesign after her awakening, and so many more. I almost resent GG in that it seems they are going all in on it being their flagship IP, along with printing 3rd party titles in their GG engines to make quick money.

Bro I remember being introduced to BB back when I was a dumbass little 8 yr old kid. I was really big on Death Battle, and when I saw an episode on two guys I've never heard of before, and one of them had 'blood' in his nam' I was all like 'tHIs Is SOme DaRk ShIT'. I don’t know what it was, but Ragna just resonated with me. From then on the series was my ultimate guilty pleasure. Alter Memory was the first anime I ever watched, and to little me, that was the coolest shit ever. Nu's theme to this day is one of my favorite songs period. And though I like Sol and Guilty Gear, I didn't really get into the series until recently, and even then it never really *clicked* with me the same way BlazBlue did. I've had a lot of good memories tied to this series, and was always hopeful we'd get something more til the very end. In a way I still do, but it fuggin' sucks that this is it for the series as we know it.

Man... BB was a series with a pretty big presence in my life; played the PSP ports back in the day. Very casually, but they were technically part of my childhood, then CF got me out of a pretty dark place back in 2018 and introduced me to the FGC just on the back of how good it felt to play... and most importantly, it was the reason I met my girlfriend (possibly future wife).
Picking up CF during that summer sale might have been one of, if not *the* biggest "butterfly effect" moment in my life and I will be forever grateful.

Though I never played a BlazBlue game until only a few years ago, I actually have a bit of history with it. Funny enough, it was before I even knew it was a fighting game (my hardware at the time wouldn't be able to handle it anyway). But when I was younger, I actually got into it because of the characters and their interactions. I didn't know the story because I was just watching cutscenes out of context, but I loved it and would come back so many times.
Of course, now I also play the game. Even the first game is still so beautiful.

As long as we continue to play BBCF, the game will never be dead. Remember that 3rd Strike still has a decently large player base on Fightcade, and that's a 23-year-old game. So, there's no reason we can't keep BlazBlue alive for decades as well.

I think my favorite memory of Blazblue was listening to Terumi’s theme Silent Scream for the first time! When that guitar comes in and starts chugging with that epic orchestral back up, MAN! Such a shame it looks like it’s days are done but it was a great time!

I know I'm late to this but I didn't want to jump immediately into the topic so that I could properly ponder over things and how I feel about this entire situation.
All in all, while I haven't stuck that closely with the series, "Blazblue" was one I enjoyed and have fond memories of. I got "Calamity Trigger" when it first released and I played a good amount of it. I 100%'d the entire Story Mode and I even played a lot online, one of the first two fighters I ever did that with.
But then, strangely, I kind of just soft-followed the series from there. While I did keep up with bits of news, I never actually played any of the follow up entries...even despite the fact that I got some of them. It wasn't until the announcement of "Central Fiction 2.0" with Jubei alongside "BBTAG" where I finally properly got back into the series. Granted, I didn't last long in either. "BBTAG" wasn't a proper entry,, it's a crossover, but I still spent a good month with it and "CF" was only roughly a week but both were memorable experiences for me.
There's some speculation I have regarding ASW and how they've treated the series in its latter years, especially after they got the rights to "Guilty Gear" back, but that's a topic for another time. Too much doom and gloom over mismanagement and all that.
"Blazblue" was a big series and it meant a lot to a lot of people, me included despite not being that close to it the entire time. It's safe to say it's one of the big influences that got me into fighting games. I always played them but it wasn't until then where I really kept up with all the going ons and the like. Sadly, with "Blazblue" more than likely being gone now and just about every other fighting game series I've grown attached to dying or getting horribly undermined by the FGC...I have been feeling quite disconnected in general. But at least I'll always remember the fond times.

Blazblue is what converted me from pad to stick. When I first saw it at my local arcade at the time (Rip Family Fun Arcade) it looked so awesome and I had no choice but to learn stick if I wanted to play. So I would just get in there and keep trying until it all started to click and I saw how great it was to play on an arcade stick. After it came out on console, I had a group of friends that would meet up and we would play on the regular and those are some of the best memories ever.

I will never forget my first time playing the game. As an EU Gamer I waited long and patiently for the EU Release of Calamity Trigger which was almost an entire year apart from the US release, which was already delayed compared to the jp release. I preordered it, it came a day late and I was waiting so hard, but once I played it it was all worth the wait.

Not only I had so much fun and wanted a better connection from 2010 so i can play with others freely because locally we have no one plays it except for 2 or 3 of my friends which I also knew from blazblue CT at that time in the lobby. I actually learnt english because of this game, since i hoped into the western blazblue forum and I improved a lot there. I bought this game when it was the hottest new anime fighting around. I remember my computer had some trouble trying to install it mostly thanks to Microsoft's Games for Windows crappy service. I remember when someone did a mash up of Ao Iconoclast with Space Jam's theme and that took the hell off!
All these memories. In fact I still have in my favorites Ragna's Perfect True Ending as MAD from NND. This game it's just so great I didn't expect to get invested in the story and the characters.
