The funny thing is i used to see people joke and poke fun at the WNBA and they would show videos of missed shots and missed layups and it would be an entire compilation that looked like Angel Reese highlights 😂😂 then i see them praise her for doing the same things i seen prime make fun of them for for years and i thought to myself, hmm i see why this league makes no money 🤣

People used to make fun of the wnba for missed layups and missed shots much like reese was doing, her skill(or lack thereof) is very similar to the reasons people clowned on the WNBA for years, her lack of ability has been seen before and we clowned on that poor basketball ability for ages and they wanted to make her rookie of the year for doing the same shit we made fun of for decades, that shit do be kinda funny tho not gonna lie

I would be happy if CC never would take another logo 3. 25 feet and in is just as impressive. It is one of the least impressive things CC does. Alot of her passes is as impressive as any 3. Sue Bird cannot comprehend why so many people would travel all over America, just to see CC. CC is magic. She does things women just do not do. Only a few men do what CC does. She is a point guard and shooting guard all rolled into one person.

Caitlin is just doing what Sue did but bigger and better. Caitlin being white is a thing. It shouldn't be, but it is. Roll with it. Same thing happened when Larry Bird came into the league. Caitlin is that big of an influence. She has little girls, white and other looking up to her and the model athlete she is. What Sue and others have done is make it racial and personal. It doesn't have to be all that.

Sue's finally exposing what drew a lot of fans to CC - true fans of basketball in addition to casual fans. A greater number of knowledgeable fans were drawn to her than analysts and current/former players have admitted. That's because they understand how rare her talent is...which is what makes her a generational player. Logo 3s in addition to her elite passing making others around her better, and things she does to help others off the court while being positive about other players all factor in on her marketability and "popularity." What some players were claiming drew fans to her had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I wouldn't even say I was a casual as I've never had the slightest bit of interest in Basketball until a couple of shorts popped up on my feed and I was captivated instantly.
I could tell she was different and special, she's athletic but also elegant.
Being from England and a football fan Basketball historically is not that big over here and even during the Jordan era it never grabbed my interest.
The lack of marketing from the WNBA and Nike so far I find absolutely ridiculous though, Europe and the rest of the world is obviously a huge market and it's only because of independent content creators I found out about CC22.

@@genghiskhanjunior9581 Speaking of European football, she played that sport too until she decided to solely pursue basketball. I agree, the WNBA lost out on some of the exponential growth they could've had if they had fully supported her throughout her rookie season. It seemed as though they felt appeasing certain players and analysts was more important than fully embracing the opportunity before them. The league still took a huge leap, but not as much as I believe they could have had they handled that differently.

I never even thought about women's basketball until I came across a video of Paige Bueckers in high school. Never heard of Caitlin. Never heard of Caitlin until her draft year after not paying much attention after Paige got hurt for the year. Paige being on the cover of SLAM got the fire started and all these women benefitted from it. Caitlin in basketball Jesus right now because she deserves the hype. She's everything people claim and plays the game the right way (even though she gets away with traveling a lot, lol).

That's like saying a kid on the high JV team beat the scoring record of a kid on the varsit teal. Except the record doesn't mean anything becuse the JV kid was playing against vastly inferior competition, and was on the JV team because he wasn't good enough to make the varsity team. Caitlyn Clark is an amazing women's player and she broke the women's scoring record. In reality she didn't break any of Pistol Pete's records, especially considering Pete played with a regulation-size basketball and didn't have a three-point line.

There are those that will never accept that she broke Pete's record and that is their right. At the end of the day, the ncaa organization recognizes it and has the record as being broken on their website. It does note that Pete never had the 3pt line and played only 3 years, but despite all that it is still recognized as being broken by CC. My understanding why it was a big deal when she broke Pete's record was due to how long the record has stood til now. Pete set the record in 1970, 54 years ago, and the inception of the 3pt line came in 1986, which was 38 years ago. In 54 years and 38 years since adding the 3pt line, no college player, man or woman, has surpassed his points of 3,667, until Caitlin Clark. She not only passed his mark but added nearly an additional 300 pts giving her a total of 3,951 pts. Yes, there will always be the asterisk stating the 3 years and no 3pt line, but you can't ignore that she did something that no other college basketball players, men or women, have ever done.

Some older fans are more open minded, and not only recognized the drastic growth that happened in the W this year - but embraced it. Some fans are a lot like former players, resistant to change of what the league had been prior to this season, and/or had issues with fans only supporting one player. The fans have clashes in perspective that should lessen with time when they all become "older" fans as newer fans come in with Bueckers, Juju, Hannah Hidalgo and others joining the league in the coming years. Caitlin had so many fans that the difference between fans' perspective was more pronounced, but it's still a natural and inevitable part of the process of a burgeoning league.

The attitude of some of the older fans of a certain sexual preference I found disgusting.
The one who wrote the "ominous" article.
They clearly saw the WNBA as some little niche place for a certain orientation, similar to how they have a "gay village" in Manchester England, nightclubs and bars etc for a certain demographic but this is sport and no players or fans should be discriminated against, everyone should be welcome.
That's the ironic thing these activists and a lot of "old fans" want to keep it a little niche backwater pride organisation yet are the first to cry discrimination and demand equality etc.

Think back to "Avery Johnson" of the San Antonio Spurs --- he came in as a good player. Avery watched David Robinson be the first player to practice and the last player after practice spending extra time on his shooting to increase his percentage on shooting. So Avery Johnson joined David in the gym during those times and by the next season he became a Great
Basketball player because he increased his percentage of making baskets. (To the point he took the clutch shot in more than one game to win at the buzzer for the Spurs.)

In the beginning, it seemed that Sue Bird was about to attempt to make a good statement about why the W was not appreciated as a sport for the longest until the event that became the catalyst to cause the phenomenon that actually took place. And then she flopped, by saying it was Paige Bueckers who came with the initial spark, and then CC just came along and added more fuel to the fire with her logos 3'S, wrong, it was more than that, the Caitlin Clark effect is more than that, she brought a style of game that no one has ever seen or felt before, her creative style of passing, intense passionate play, and determination that not many players has ever conveyed before. And this energy she brought impacted her teammates as well to the point that it elevated their game also. So this fire she was talking about has been brewing since Caitlin was a kid playing throughout her childhood to high school to college. By college this fire erupted into a volcano in college whereby the audience attendance just exploded. And the rest is history, the Caitlin Clark effect was in full bloom.

It's Waddle Ball vs. Basketball! It's 60 pt vs. 100 pt games. It's taking the full shot clock and then finally shooting and missing 2/3rds of the time and then taking your time to go back to the other end, to do the same half-hearted play style vs. fast ball changes and players jetting to the other end and watching the playmaker put a dime right where the points are made and going the other way. Current WNBA Waddleball uses "physicality" as your toughness to make up for the fact that players didn't bother with fast pace LIKE THE DUNKERS of the NBA had to! A slow and steady pace flips the channel! Enter Clark, once the other on the Fever team woke up, like Mitchell putting on her rocket-assist shoes and learning to streak, then the pace of a Fever game went off the charts. The 100 pters with the Wings were great to watch! Instead of pulling hockey moves at smashing a good player and slowing the game, the Wings took the pace challenge and it was so fast and unpredictable it was FUN to watch! It was like a hockey series I watched years ago between Pittsburgh and Boston, it was 5 games of great players playing the puck and I couldn't take my eyes off it... then the next series was with a Texas team and it was back to "physicality" as the WNBA called and I didn't watch the rest of the BORING championships.
It's about playing the game in the rules so it is as fast as possible as unpredictable as possible! Do you know how many college games I have turned off after long minutes because they start fouling all the time to play outside the rules to win? 10's or 100's because they are BORING at that point. I am not at that college, I just want to see great ball! You start wacking players like the Carrington Eye Claw AND letting her get by with it, you are a joke. Bird, you are a professional team with a SMALL local base and we aren't casual observers. We like good ball, but you have to play it! I am not near any team. That is the MAJORITY of the country!!! So I am actually rooting for both teams because I just want to see a great game! So call me casual? No, call me demanding of professionals who get to play a sport for a living. I want you to play well and stop this "we're so tough we can't play fast because we will beat each other up" LOW QUALITY, NON PROFESSIONAL CRAP. Stop blaming the VAST majority of your possible fan base and grow up and play hard ball within the rules so it is FAST. If it's good game, well played, with effort I will watch. Guess what your "physicality" and asshole ref calls make you? A JOKE and three pointers won't overcome that. Right now you have person that ALWAYS plays hard and fast! Get off your waddling asses and play basketball!
Bird actually brought pace up and how it could win more games! AS she accused all the new fans of being unknowing assholes on that podcast. It's not the fans, we pay for it. most of us are really want to see good ball.
