It is hard to tell wether Ma Long was just too good or if Timo is actually getting older and not as fast as before. There were definately some points especially in the last set where Timo showed why he was no1 in the world 3 times (e.g. at around 30:00). However, even in Timos best times a win vs Ma Long would have been a surprise.
GaryMations Well i really think it is because he is getting older. I think there are about 10 years between them. But for example Samsonov or Waldner were even good when there were about 35 so i think Timo will still win a lot of matches.
Ma Long didn't even play that well. And Timo played horribly. Both seem to know each other well and it looks like mistakes were being made because of that. But Timo also has been in pain a lot of this year and is 34, and this is the best Chinese team there has been probably ever. It will be a long time before there will be a non Asian number 1 again.
Unlike Boll, Waldner remained a threat to the is too Chinese much longer due to his creativity and ability to change his game. The Chinese figured Boll out a long time ago.
