He had a brief comeback in 1997 when he released his fifth official video, Classic Cool (this has been reissued on DVD), but in August 2000 his career had to be put on hold when he suffered a heart attack, which left him in hospital for eight months. After making a full recovery he returned to the stage with a brand new show in 2002, and in 2003 he revived his touring partnership with Jasper Carrott. He is now a resident in Chipping, Lancashire, and has since retired from performing live.
It's time "Dave" or "Gold" started running these great shows again! I remember watching this episode using a crap portable ariel plugged in to the VCR (I received for my 18th birthday) in my bedroom. Then diving across the room to hit record when the announcer said what was on next. Some 5 years later I moved in with my now husband, the VCR and Cool it Special moved with me. In 2000 my beloved VCR passed away. My husband however, is still with us. And the Cool it Special is still alive and kicking on the video tape shelf. My Phil Cool DvD Section is growing nicely. But best of all my 18yr old son loves watching them too!
Haven't laughed so much in ages. I'd forgotten how great Phil Cool is. But, it's sobering to think that most of his subjects are either dead now or being investigated by Operation Yewtree.
Phil Cool was a big star on BBC TV in 1980s, but he just faded away and is largely forgotten now. Much of his material probably wouldn't carry today sadly.
he was a very funny bloke. my mum and dad sort of knew him when he was at the height of his cool it tv phase when he was drinking in the dunkirk pub when he lived in leyland lancashire. very down to earth bloke, i remember once he went into our local paper shop rs mccols and started pulling faces at the miserable old women working behind the counter who quickly told him to piss off.
The video of his show in 2011 is worth a look - brutal but harmless take on some 21st century ' leaders ' i guess by modern PC standards , he still pushes it . For me ,he reminds us just how life in britain is taken far too seriously nowadays. Love from the Too Serious New Forest 😃
Without doubt, the greatest impressionist ever, and he's able to sing and play the guitar expertly. Outstanding.

Saw him on Tuesday 28/11/23 performing live with his son and The Houghton Weavers at Barnoldswick - still got a beautiful singing voice.
Mr Cool was an exceptional intellectual and his creative power coupled with the natural ability pull faces was genius.
Not seen him in a long time...brilliant

Mike Yarwood must now bitterly regret doing comic impersonations of Prince Andrew.
