I love Stede btw, he's a complex character with depth and not-so-simple simplicity, u know? He can surprise for many many times, just like his real prototype (and yeah, Stede Bonnet was the real pirate captain, such a crazy dude). Also I love one character from the 1x02, but I won't say anything about him now. And the reason why I love this show so much is because of its unpredictability. So many cliches in it but the way they're presented is completely insane. I wish you good watching, looking forward to new reactions

Thank you! Too many people think it's okay to spoil this show if reactors aren't noticing certain things quickly enough for their taste!
Just freaking enjoy the journey, and if a reactor takes awhile to catch onto certain things just laugh about it, ffsake!

Pinocchio came out in 1883, so over 160 years after this show is set. But they're not really going for historical accuracy anyway XD

Young Stede Bonnet was played by adult Stedes actor Rhys Darbys actual son

This show is definitely worth watching. And I say that as someone who's not really interested in the romance. The comedy alone is that good. People who are really into the romantic aspects of the show tend to go nuts over it.

Fun fact: Show creator David Jenkins has a cameo in this episode as officer Shaw, the one who has tea spilled in his lap and then gets tied to row the boat 🤣
I have absolutely adored this show since it came out in 2022 and it's been my favourite ever since 😊 I always love seeing people who enjoy it from ep 1, as the first 3 can be a little slow for some. Personally I knew I was going to keep watching from the ball room joke 😅
From the characters in this episode Stede is definitely my favourite, I've just always found him very relatable and I adore how enthusiastic he is, even if he has no idea what he's doing 😊 though the crew are all very loveable in their own ways, I can hardly pick a fave 😁

No idea if Pinocchio had been written by this point, but they play very fast and loose with the history so don't worry about it too much lol! I think they do it in a really fun and purposeful way to blend old and modern - for example, if you look, Olu is wearing crocs

1717 is before Pinocchio, but like miranda4073 suggests, the show is sort of joyfully anachronistic, @@quitethekylah2393

Moments I remember falling for them individually in the first episode:
Jim x knives, especially through the English officer’s hand!
    Pete’s little ineffectual “Goddamit!”
Olu’s “He reads us stories at night”
Roach’s “I’m not asking you; I’m asking him.” Love his pragmatism.
Wee John’s “And what if it were?”
    Frenchie’s goth sea shanties.
Buttons seemingly random loyalty to Stede.
    The Swede “Talk… about… it?”
Stede - reading to them at the end
Nigel Badminton - never. But Rory had me at “EeeeEeyyyyYYYEEEeeee”
David Jenkins - not just him rowing the boat, but his musical choices, his use of the cast, & his sweetness.
Please, please continue with this series. It is amazing.
(Also Jim & their actor Vico use they/them pronouns)

Absolutely continue! This is one of the best comedies I’ve ever seen, and also very romantic and adventurous! It is great from the start bust an absolute BLAST starting in episode 4. And the new season is even better!

Your question made me curious, and turns out you're right, the first edition of Pinocchio was published as a serial in 1881. But as others have said, the timelines for the show are a bit loose anyway. (As an aside, I learned something. Honestly I was surprised it was so recent, I thought it was a much OLDER story, and I also didn't realise it had a single author. I thought Pinocchio was in the same camp as Little Red Riding Hood etc, with well known versions being an amalgamation of older folk tales. For fairytales, 1881 is pretty recent. So thanks for sending me down a fun little google rabbithole!)
Definitely worth continuing! Though you may need to adjust your expectations as far as levels of violence, these are still pirates. For the most part it's offscreen or implied violence though (like how we didn't see the captain get stabbed, just the aftermath.)
I look forward to seeing you fall in love with all of these ridiculous people, the whole cast is brilliant, and the writing is both funny and hearthfelt.

    Please keep reacting.
However, as you're doing so, avoid Tumblr, or looking up any information about the show or the actors, and especially no more trailers! Even be careful in the comments section!
Particularly, around episodes 4 and 5.
People seem to think that spoiling this show is okay, and you don't want that! It's always more fun to see a genuine reaction from someone who isn't already familiar with what's going to happen!

07:20 I get car sick whenever I'm on a road that's too curvy and I'm not the one driving, but the only time I got seasick, there was enough alcohol involved that I can't really blame it on the boat motion 😂. The motion made it worse, but it wasn't the main culprit. All the other times I've been in boats I was fine, so you should try, maybe cars are worse for you as well.
