  • The Titan II rocket made a funny noise during the LR-87 engine spool up sequence. Spaceflight history always has fun easter eggs like these. Join me by launching.........(pun) an investigation on why the Titan 2 GLV that was part of the Gemini Program made a whoop sound doing liftoff.

Interesting video!! In an interview Wally Schirra actually mentioned the "whoop" when discussing the first launch attempt of Gemini 6. As he stated..."We went through the countdown, 5, 4, 3 2...then ignition, the engines came up (and he made the "Whoop" noise), but immediately shut down and no liftoff.

I love the Titan 2. The same rocket used for the Gemini program.

so it's basically the starter motor, and the rrrRRRRRRRRRRp is the equivalent of the engine turning over?

SpaceX raptor engines make the same kind of noise, but at shut down.
