While he was in New York City, the day prior to filming started, the Office staff called him up, had him read lines into a camera, gave him the part, and flew him to L.A.
Pam's landlady looked like a female version of Michael Scott, they had the same color hair and eyes and cute but slightly exaggerated facial features. Pam basically set him up with himself.
