Brendon, I closely follow your channel and enjoy it but this is an exceptionally great posting. I agree with several of your choices. I’m a bit older than you and heavily lean toward the PROG artists more than the metal bands but I am always interested in hearing all music and giving it a chance. But the Drama mention made me write. I think you’re point that if you enter listening to a band at a later date you are much more open to accepting all of the catalog because you are not biased. I think this is why you hear all of the time “I only listen to the older stuff”. Which is fine but sad. I just wanted to say hi, thank you and good work.

Right on Brendon. I do agree with you about certain albums especially “Calling all Stations” that album is really great. One of my favorite tracks is “the dividing line” which has a Phil-ish drum sound. My favorite track on that album is “One Man’s Fool” but then again they all are great songs. Back in 1976 it was always the “Banks/Rutherford” songs. It’s just a shame they didn’t give Ray Wilson a fair shot by recording one more album. But that’s the past now. I was so looking forward to seeing this version of Genesis live but they canceled the US dates back in 1997-98 whenever it was due to lack of ticket sales. End of rant now. In closing Calling all stations is a very good album indeed. I can never thank you enough when I bought “Fly on the Wall” on your recommendation. My 2nd album I really enjoy is “Flick of the Switch”

Good job. Nice to see my favorite band's logo on your shirt. I never thought of Drama as being hated though. Maybe at the time a little bit (especially in the UK) but not so much compared to some of their later albums (especially Union, Open Your Eyes and Heaven & Earth). I'm a little bit of a younger Yes fan too though (got into them in the 80s as a teen- I knew Asia too but didn't make the connection until later).

The album was shunned at the time and the tour didn’t go over well. The band would break up because of this. But in later years the album has grown a cult following and is definitely looked upon in better light than it was when first released.

@@BrendonSnyder I think that was more in the UK than in the US though. From what I read the crowd in the UK were hostile towards Trevor Horn and didn't accept him as Jon's replacement even shouting "we want Jon." The album didn't do as well in general and was their first album to not go gold in the US. However, I still never heard of any hostility towards the band in the US and I have heard at least one person say that the Drama tour was the best concert he ever saw. I think at this point most Yes fans definitely accept it though. It's too bad that iteration of the band didn't do one more album. I think it was similar with that other prog band Genesis who broke up after CAS which also wasn't received well but not as bad as people make it out to be.

    Brendon,
If you love Jefferson Starship / Modern Times, you really need the "bookend" albums, Freedom At Point Zero from '79 and Winds of Change from '82. They all have a similar feel and the secret weapon that really ties them together is guitarist Craig Chaquico - they really let him cut loose over these. Both Find Your Way Back and Stranger from MT were ALL OVER rock radio at the time. The next album, Nuclear Furniture was really where they went off the glossy-production, keyboard-heavy, pop deep end.

I'm not a fan of twofers but the only CD version of "Modern Times" I own is coupled with "Nuclear Furniture" (Friday Music, US 2009). That twofer is a bit odd, considering "Winds of Change" was released 1982, between the two albums mentioned (released 1981 and 1984 respectively). Even more odd is the twofer released by Edsel, UK in 2008 with "Modern Times" coupled with the 1976 album "Spitfire". So I agree, I would welcome good reissues of "Modern Times" (and the other albums).

I think what you said about coming to these albums later is completely true. I know for many people, VH3 did not meet expectations, but I’m only 26, so since I discovered it alongside all the other albums, I didn’t have those same expectations that were then let down. MFAD for me, though, is sort of the opposite. Aerosmith is my absolute favorite band, and MFAD is the only studio album of theirs that I got to experience as a new release. The hype built up for it, the singles coming out prior to release, the promotional internet videos, Steven promoting it on American Idol, and the eventual release all happened while I was in high school, so I have a LOT of nostalgia for that album! I was so excited to experience a new album from the band that I had been in love with since middle school! So it’ll always hold a special place in my heart!

Good choice on Drama. My favorite Yes album too . Reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd’s “Animals” with the long but not boring songs with great Melodies. “Who By Numbers” is a great one from the 70s that gets forgotten.
