I wish you guys had played us the recorded files instead of hearing what the camera picked up from your monitors in your room.

Exactly. This shows us nothing of the quality of the microphone because of the room sound. Pity

If only I were rich enough to consider the senn 421 ‘cheap’ .......lol. God only knows we can’t all dish out $400+ for a dynamic mic. Woulda been nice if they put an sm57 in the mix, as its 1/4 the price of the 421 and it sounds quite good on alto!

Hi, I record my alto sax on audacity with a akg mic. It always sound muffled or a bit far away like I'm playing in the bathroom. How do I get a better sound?I havnt downloaded any plugins or anything. You can see the sound on one of my saxophone videos in my channel

Nice video, guys. Personally I hate the most expensive mic's sound, and I like the cheap one. I know it's super personal, but the large diaphragm condenser just reminds me of my cheap audio technica AT2020. The mid range is too dark for me, which I know is the trend currently, but in reggae, salsa, funk, hip hop, R&B it sounds flat and boring imho. Next time maybe include the sound with a full band mix, and longer excerpts. Also if you could include the sax player's setup, it would help us sax gearheads. I have that cannonball, even with the same lacquer, but it's a tenor and I play a ponzol wide opening. I love my setup. Keep it up.

His mouthpiece looked to me like a Vandoren, probably either a Java or Jumbo Java, or possibly one of the more open models from the V5 series.

did 421s used to be cheaper? because I wouldn’t call a 600 dollar mic cheap.

I notice that none of them used foam windscreens, is that on purpose or would one be an advantage?

Ok well first you did not use the same time & licks he played differnt licks .. record the same time all mic's then compare.

Agreed - should've had the player play the same line on all three mics.

421 is a very commom choice to me it kills a tenor sound. I like the beyerdinamic201 a lot more, way fuller natural sound.
